Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

[is it possible to eat at] Be Our Guest (BOG) without a reservation (ADR)?

I know, shock and awe, I usually mock these people and now I am one! I want to go to BOG and don't have an ADR. There, of course, are none available, we are going Oct 24th thru Oct 30th. It was a trip made on short notice that I am terrible excited and thankful for, more about that in our TR.

Anyway.....Any advice on the fast passes I have heard are available? I have registered for our fastpasses but BOG was not an option

It's always possible. I honestly suspect Disney sets aside a small percentage of available tables at any one time, to give walk-ups a (very slim) chance, as well as a buffer against accidents taking a table or two out of rotation for an hour.

Your best bet is to show up at the podium just as BoG is opening, and try an approach like this: "I don't have a reservation, and I know the answer wil probably be no - but is there any chance you might have a table available for _ people, at any time tonight?" Keep a cheerful attitude, and make it clear you won't blow up at them if they do say "No, I'm sorry, but there's nothing" - I suspect that will inspire the CMs at the podium to try that little bit harder to arrange something for you. Showing up as early as you can, makes their chances of success that much greater, too.

And if they say no, don't be afraid to go back, a few hours later, and ask if there's maybe been a cancellation. The worst they can say, in both cases, is "No"; and you never know, you mgiht get lucky!

...

You'd only be one of "those people" if you then threw a tantrum and raised a stink over hearing "no, sorry". Which I'm sure you won't do, so ...

Good luck!!

Is it impossible for you to consider lunch? We did that, and it was a very nice experience. We just had to wait in line for about 30 minutes.

You can always check with concierge at your hotel, my brother was at WDW at the end of August and had to make a change for dinner the following night, he went downstairs and not only were they able to switch his reservation for the following evening to another night but when he asked what was available for dinner the next night as he now has an empty slot they were able to get him BOG for the next night at 8:30....

You never know you might luck out

DW and I went there for dinner in March. (Had to make ressies last year when it opened.) When we went back in July, nothing was available for dinner so we went for lunch. Even with the summer crowds, we were able to get seated fairly quickly. We enjoyed both meals. The kids meal for lunch was not really good (too small). Benefit for lunch is that all of the dining rooms are open. We ate in the room with Beast and Belle dancing. Benefit for dinner is that you get to meet Beast. Disadvantages for dinner is higher cost and (unless they have changed the arrangement) the music box room is not open. Either way, it is a wonderful experience.

I agree with the others. Definitely try asking at your resort or just turning up at the door, but obviously you know the situation and be prepared for a As others have said, it's also worth considering lunch.

Honestly, I would think this is a slim to no chance. I would ask at Guest Services first thing in the morning on the day you want to dine--other than that keep checking every day for an opening!

You're going in 74 days and already registered for Fastpasses? How? I'm now at 60 days and thought at that point I'd be able to make mine, but so far no luck.

And while BOG is using the Fastpasses, getting in line for lunch and using a CS credit is easy if you feel like waiting a little bit. As for dinner w/o a reservation? For the same reason you can't get one is the same reason you shouldn't expect to walk-in for dinner w/o one, it's the hottest ticket in town.

Don't worry, it's not Fastpass only for lunch. It's standard counter service, but they are offering some Fastpasses. However, it's on test at the moment as I understand it and the only way you seem to get them is if Disney offers them to you.

Hey! I'M going to be there the same time!!!!! OK, well almost the same time 19-26. I couldn't "find" BOG in the FastPass+ list either. I was really hoping to see BOG this trip, but I think we'll have to do it another time

I am going in 30 days. The countdown you see is for another trip. I understand completely that ADR's are expected as I said in my initial post. I am a very experienced WDW traveler. What I was saying in initial post is that I was fortunate to come upon a short notice trip where I was not able to have to advantage of booking at 180 days and looking for advice of short notice or walk in booking for a counter service meal.

Good Luck with your FP+ experience. WE LOVE IT SO FAR!! The website is amazing and in seems to be enhancing planning for the entire trip.

THANK YOU!!!! That was what I was concerned about is it might be FP only for lunch. This gives me hope to dining at BOG without time to make ADR's.

Wish we were going to be there at the same time!

I have eaten there before, twice actually, once on opening day!! Yes, I made ADR's the second they started taking them for BOG, I made them from a Disney room because I was on property on another Disney vacation. I felt very fortunate for all those things combined. That said.....I LOVED IT and can't wait to go back.

With the others: ask, but don't expect a yes. You could be surprised. We did lunch and enjoyed seeing all the themed rooms. Our wait in line was about 30 minutes, no worse than waiting for a ride. Decent food, refillable drinks, and fantastic theming, so I don't regret getting in line at 10:30 in the morning for an early lunch.
