As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So, DH and I are taking DD's to San Antonio later this summer for a long weekend getaway. We're staying on the Riverwalk and will take some time to explore the shops and restaurants, etc.
We are looking to maybe spend a half day at a Dude Ranch. And were thinking about doing Sea World too.
Any thoughts? Any must-sees we should plan on doing? Any recommendations for restaurants or attractions? Any tips on what to avoid? Interested in hearing it all ...

We enjoyed walking around the little historic town of Gruene in the Hill Country. Old buildings are now antique shops, the saloon is the very first one established in Texas and is where they filmed the dance scene for "Michael" that starred John Travolta. And there's an excellent restaurant there, can't remember the name but it may be the only restaurant. LOL

Mi Tierra!!! Oh Michael, you beat me to it. Awesome place to eat. For morning breakast, the menudo is great, as well as the barbacoa. For lunch/dinner I recommend beef enchiladas or mixed fajitas (beef and chicken). If going to dinner, there will be a trio (prounounced three-o in Spanish, 3men serenading you) walking around, whom you can request songs to be played while you dine. For romantic moods, request GEMA (hem-a), Amor Eterno, and Amorcito Corazon .
The Alamo is a must as are the missions which are all in close proximity to each other. You have to do the riverwalk and if you get a chance, a drive to Fredricksburg via TX 16 (let me research it tho). It is a very nice, serene, and beautiful drive. Big Lou's pizza is good eatin' also. There is the Witte Museum, the zoo, and the botanical gardens off of US 281.
Natural Bridge Caverns is nice as is the natural preserve next door. Don't really know what else you all would feel like doing, but if you have questions feel free to reach out and ask. Dont forget your boots! Seaworld is good (just hydrate as much as possible...drink even when you are not thirsty). Stick to water tho, save sodas for your meals.

Okay Ms. TinkRocks, I was on my phone when I sent that last response, engaged in a slow pursuit shortly after, and pulled a drunk outta his car and hauled him jail (yes, I am at work, so shhhhhh). Just popped open my laptop now and TX 16 is the road to Fredricksburg. Fredricksburg is a town in the Hill Country, which was established by a German community. It is a popular shopping district now (one long strip of road filled with shops), which have utilized the original buildings. The Admiral Nimitz Museum is there, a block away from the main road, and if I am not mistaken, peach season is here, which means that you and your family are able to experience picking your own peaches. I did it 2 years ago, and man 'o man, those peaches were great.
Six Flags Fiesta Texas is another idea for theme park experience, in case you are interested. Splashtown is a water park (never been there tho), but fyi, Schlitterbahn is just an hour north of SA in New Braunfels. Mi Tierra is located in the Market Square just off of 35 and Dolorosa St. Like I said, if you need some more help, just ask.

I'm going to take all this info and talk to DH . We are really looking forward to this trip and all of your suggestions and ideas have really just increased my enthusiasm for visiting San Antonio!

Sea World is going to be very hot and crowded. Another vote for MiTierra. If you drive out to Fredricksburg, stop at the LBJ ranch and the living museum on the property. Walking around the Riverwalk is enjoyable but avoid eating there...costly and usually not that good. They have bus/trolleys that go from downtown to the Market Square. If you enjoy zoos, they have a nice one.
Also if you are going to a dude ranch in Bandera, be sure to check out the cafe on Main st. Can't remember the name but it was very cute with its western theme and the food wasn't bad......try the chicken fried steak.

Just wanted to report back regarding our trip to San Antonio. We just got back yesterday and had a great time!
We spent the better part of the day at a dude ranch - Rancho Cortez - in Bandera. It was a lot of fun. Horseback riding, lasso lessons, feeding the longhorns, dinner, and storytelling around a big old campfire complete with smores at night. Just really awesome.
We spent time on the Riverwalk and at the Alamo and went to Sea World too. And we did make it to Mi Tierra which we absolutely loved.

That is is great to know. Funny tho, I too just back in from an overnight trip in that area. DGF's sister drove in from Ohio, so we met her up in New Braunfels (Schlitterbahn), and stayed the night in Schertz, TX. In the morning, we drove into SA and ate, Guess Where???? Mi Tierra!!!!!! Glad to have helped you guys.
