I guess this is all Normal....right [anxious about solo trip]? - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I guess this is all Normal....right [anxious about solo trip]?
So since I have been planning this Vacation....or as I call it, my Therapy! : )
I am EXCITED to say the least.... holding it in and checking out this site to control it.... as much as possible!
But today I started to have another feeling that I am not comfortable with, or at least how to keep it at bay. I am anxious, excited (of course), and a little scared! I mean, really???? Then I say to myself I am an independent person, a single mom that can handle most of anything..and have....BUT this is a whole new feeling for me. True I am going to Disney by myself... First time EVER! I think that is what lies ahead for me. I have been told by many who have been solo travelers to Disney that it is so Great...and I can do whatever I want! I have even kept my schedule pretty much open.... I only have 2 scheduled meals, but I didn't want to be so planned out that I would cancel my dining plans. Plus I still can't decide where to eat the last 3 days.... but I am not worried about them at all, anymore!
So..... I hope someone can relate to my feelings... I hope, I hope! Just tell me that I am just being silly....right??... LOL!

I hear you on that. I went to Disney on my own, albeit I was meeting up with a huge group of PassPorters when I got there, but I flew from the UK to the US on my own and leaving DH at home was really difficult. I was very nervous beforehand, but I had a ball when I got there and I'm sure you will too.

You will have a great time. Sure, you will miss your family while you are gone, but you deserve some "me" time and what better place than Disney. I think you are right to just sort of go with the flow. Take a deep breath and enjoy!!
I remember being nervous before my first solo trip but once I was there it went away pretty fast. It was so nice to wander the parks at my own pace - although the first couple of days I found myself running from place to place and not taking enough "rest" breaks. After that I slowed down and spent some time sitting and watching and noticing more of the little details that make WDW such a special place. I hope you enjoy your solo trip as much as I have mine.
It's different being on your own for sure, but as many have said it's great! Just something to note - a lot of restaurants that have bars will allow you to get the full menu at the bar. Great for a solo traveler who doesn't want to be bogged down by too many plans! Not sure about park restaurants as much but I've definitely done it at The Wave and at Jiko
waves I'm also a solo traveler and although I was nervous I loved every bit of my trip! being able to come and go as i please and do what i want when I want it. the only thing that got to me a bit was in epcot in via napali the restaurant the waitress kept on asking me if i was ok.. I think she thought i was a reviewer or something.. ENJOY your trip!
Take a deep breath and remember - you're going to your Happy Place (and meeting me ). I can't answer on going solo (I'm lucky I can go to the bathroom solo with a kid and 2 dogs in the house ) but I know many people here have done it and have had a great time. Look at Princess Sharon (where is she anyway?). I love reading her TR's because she obviously has a lot of fun - and ends up meeting people including other PPers when she takes her solo trips. If you look forward to it, you're going to have a great time. If you dread it and convince yourself you shouldn't do it, then you won't - so get excited. Think of all the things you can do without hearing "mom, can we do _____ instead," "mom, can we go now." And don't forget there's me (and Lenny and Abby of course ). You can be in my family for a little while and the best part about it? When you get tired of us, you can just leave, I'm stuck with them (did I just say that outloud ). You'll have a great time, stop worrying (says a fellow worrier ).
I definitely understand your nervousness, but I know you will have a great time. It is, after all, Disney!!! I was there once, a long time ago and for only one day, by myself, and I had a lot of fun. Now, I've been through a lot of changes in my life...marriage, child, divorce...and now my DS is 17. I haven't had many private moments in those 17 years, but I wouldn't change any of the time I've put into him. Still, the thought of getting away, all by myself, for days sounds really good!
There are so many things you can do quickly as a solo traveler at WDW...interesting dining options, single rider lines...I bet you'll be amazed at your ability to tour and have lots of great experiences.
Get on the plane, relax, and have a wonderful vacation. I am sure you deserve it!

I travelled to WDW and all over the world solo for years and I never had a problem. WDW is one of the safer places to be solo. And CMS will go out of their way to make tou feel comfortable

Gosh! I just LOVE all your words of Wisdom! I am going to take Disney by the Ears AND enjoy my time, me-time!
I will take a deep breath.... and enjoy it! I promise to take it slow too... I love details!
I am sooo looking forward to this trip, Darlene. Yes I am truly looking forward to meeting Abby, Lenny, and You most defiantly! You made me laugh! LOL!
Thank YOU all of YOU- for reassuring me! I will remember all your words when I do get to Disney. It is weird I am an independent person and to admit that I am little scared of going to Disney by myself.... too weird!
Don't worry I plan on doing a Trip report too! Thank you again! : )
