Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

with the Ultimate Touring Plan. I know others who've done it and I like the idea, but as I will never ever ride Space Mountain again, it's not going to happen for us.

I know .... I don't think we'll get it all done, but it will be fun to race around trying. I think my daughter will enjoy getting to go as fast as she wants from attraction to attraction. She hates slowing down for the rest of the family to take a break.

Oh no, you don't like Space Mountain? So sorry. I like the Disneyland one best. I don't mind any of the Magic Kingdom rides, but am not crazy about Tower of Terror or Expedition Everest.

Dining Plans

We are looking forward to some Disney meals and snacks in February! We will have a Tables in Wonderland card which gives a discount at table service meals, but don't want to be bound by too many ADRs. Will probably do counter service for most meals and try walk-ups otherwise. We do have an ADR for the Chefs de France lunch. Here are our tentative plans...

Thursday Night: IF Beaches and Cream is still open when we arrive (around 9:15 p.m.) we'll see if we can get in for a late-night sundae or sandwich.

Friday: Breakfast in the room (we're staying in a studio, so we'll have a coffee maker and toaster - will either bring some breakfast items or use Garden Grocer for delivery)
Lunch: We'll be on the run with the Ultimate Touring Plan. If there is not a long line for Be Our Guest (I know that's unlikely!), we'd love to try it for lunch. Other options: Hummus sandwich at Columbia Harbor House or just a Mickey Bar on the go.
Dinner: Something quick in the MK - this day will be snack and sandwich heavy so we can eat in line and keep moving on our Ultimate Touring Plan

Saturday:
Breakfast in the room
Lunch - Chefs de France. We'll probably split the prix fixe menu - plenty of food for the two of us
Dinner - Will need to be something simple and carb heavy for me with the race the next day. Maybe Sunshine Seasons so DD has plenty of good options and I'll stick to something simple plus an extra order of white rice from the Asian section

Sunday:
Bagel or banana for me before the race
More snacks in the room following the race
Lunch - Be Our Guest if we weren't successful eating there on Friday (or maybe again if we were!)
Dinner: Thinking about Kouzzina if we are ready to head back to Epcot area, or taking a boat to the Poly for Kona Cafe if we want to stay at MK

Monday:
Breakfast in the room
Lunch - Animal Kingdom - Maybe Yak and Yeti? I wasn't crazy about the Honey Stung Chicken we had last visit... but might try the fried rice.
Dinner - Tutto Gusto in Italy or Tangerine Cafe in Morroco

Your dining plans sound yummy! Beaches & Cream should still be open, as they're quite popular after Illuminations. If you can get there before the crowds from Illuminations show up, you should be ok. You've got my favorite CS places listed-- Columbia Harbour House (LOVE the hummus sandwich) and Sunshine Seasons. I haven't yet tried Tutto Gusto, but it sounds wonderful.

Me too! I just heard there is now a fast pass option for lunch at Be Our Guest... wondering if we'll have to use that to get in. There are NO table service ADRs at BOG available for this trip or for our April family vacation.

Thanks! The Ultimate Touring Plan is a contest of sorts at touringplans.com - you try to do every "core" attraction (including meet and greets, shows, etc) in one day.

Just joining in. Sounds like you all have a full trip planned with the Ultimate touring plan AND the Princess Half.

I had to laugh though. I also live 3+ hours from Portland. However, I do all my flying out of Seattle as it is much closer and there is a great shuttle service.

Race Day Plans

In addition to our plans for commando style touring and enjoying Stormalong Bay, I am planning to run the Princess Half Marathon on Sunday. I am a relatively new runner (started about 3 years ago at age 41 with a couch to 5K program) and have been working towards the Princess Half for a while.

Just after making our reservations for this February trip last summer, an opportunity arose to visit Disneyland and run the Disneyland 1/2. (DH had a business trip to Anaheim that week). I signed up right away and ramped up my training to prepare for an early September 1/2. It was an awesome experience!

Training for the Princess Half has not gone as well. Over the summer I was working fewer hours and the weather was perfect for long runs outdoors. Now I have a new job, had several weeks in November when I was sick with a sinus infection, and running outdoors in the winter in Maine is often not possible. Hello treadmill. I've made peace with the treadmill, but am still way behind on my training plan. Earlier this week I ran 9 miles, so I'm feeling more confident that I will finish.... but I know I'm looking at a slower rather than faster time for my second 1/2.

I'm still trying to decide whether or not to wear a costume. For the Disneyland 1/2, I was all about running the race and did not stop for characters, etc. This time I'm on the fence about whether to compromise comfort for the fun of running in costume.

If I go in costume, I'll be Merdia. I have a teal green running skirt and tank and found some knee socks at Target in the same shade that I will make into arm warmers. I could add a soft braided brown belt (already have) and my daughter's Merdia wig to make it a costume. I've also thought about sewing a cape out of some inexpensive teal fleece to stay warm before the race starts. I would ditch the cape with the other throwaway clothing Disney collects for charity. Or, I could just run a simple tank and running skirt and forget the costume. Decisions, decisions!
