As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

My wife and I are making plans for a Disney Cruise. We'll be coming in from Tennessee, into Georgia, then Florida. Our driving plans are set until we get to Macon via I-75; I'm looking at three possible routes from there:
1) I-16 to Savannah, then I-95 to Port Canaveral
2) Continue on I-75 to Lake City, then I-10 to Jacksonville, then I-95 to Port Canaveral
3) Continue on I-75 to FL Turnpike, then go through Orlando to Port Canaveral
Which of these routes do you all recommend? Any thoughts, tips, etc. would be greatly appreciated!
Go I-16 to I-95 to Canaveral. It's a pretty straight shot from there. I-16 is a lot less traveled than I-75 so that makes it an easier trip. You might want to stop at Metter for a pit stop as there aren't may places to stop along I-16. Thta's the way we are going to go from Atlanta.
I'd also choose #1 (I-16). Less traffic, and seems like a slightly more direct shot. Good luck! (Wave as you go by Exit 94 on I-95 in GA...that's my exit! )

So I spoke to my DH about this on the way to church this morning, and he was more for the I-75 to the turnpike route. His contention is that the I-16 and I-10 routes make a corner, while the turnpike is more direct.
Also, I had forgotten to take into account that on I-95 it appears that is where they store the orange road-construction barrels (or at least that's what it seems like since there are always miles of them and they never seem to be taken down).
So I guess my advice is run the numbers through mapquest or whatever your favorite mapping site is and make your choice from there.
For fun, I ran this through a route mapping service. The preferred route for distance and speed is I-16 -> GA 19 -> US 23 -> I-95. #2 is I-75 -> Florida Turnpike (15 miles longer, 15 minutes longer). Last place is I-16 -> I-95 (yet another 15 miles and 15 minutes longer). So #1 is 30 minutes and 30 miles faster than #3, all things being equal.
These times could be affected by time of day - a matter of whether you hit rush hour traffic when you pass through Orlando or Savannah.

I have driven routes #1 & #3. I can say the stretch from Macon to Valdosta is one of the dullest routes in the US. There is really nothing to see and highway always seems to be littered with tire parts. I do love the drive from Savannah to Jacksonville.

I completely know what you are talking about here! But you'll never believe this - I drove from Savannah to Orlando and back last week and there were NO ORANGE BARRELS!!!!! I thought for sure I'd taken a wrong turn somewhere!

I'm not sure why it would say it's that much faster to go on GA-19 and US 23, as the speed limit is not as high on either of those roads as it is on 16 & 95. Interesting.
Also, while you might want to make sure you don't hit rush hour in Jacksonville or Orlando, I-95 isn't affected by Savannah during rush hour time. (Trust me, I drive on it every day. )

Route 23 is the Golden Islands Highway and is the route my in-laws like to take. But it really takes you through a TON of small towns in GA and the speed limits change A LOT. You have to be careful or you'll get a ticket (if you know what I mean).
And Christine, I-16 isn't much more interesting (although I'd say that I-20 between Atlanta and Augusta is the MOST boring stretch of highway in the USA). In the fall it's a LITTLE more interesting as there are cotton fields on either side and you can tell it's cotton since it's bolled out. Other than that not much to see. And not many exits to stop at - you'll really only have Dublin and Metter between Macon and I-95.

I grew up in Nashville and made many drives to/from central and south Florida with my family. I live in Midtown Atlanta now, and I'm still making those trips - they just take about 3.5 hours less!
I'm a huge fan of option 3. The drive through south Georgia is deadly boring, but there are plenty of rest stops, restaurants, gas stations, etc. Once you get into Florida, the drive gets more interesting around Lake City, Ocala, etc. The Turnpike and the Beachline Expressway (aka FL-528) involve some tolls, but the reduced traffic is worth it. I'd say it's your best bet in terms of convenience, traffic, stops along the way, and having plenty of open highway.

Amen! When we'd drive to Florida from Nashville, my mother would always hope to fall asleep (or else she'd pop a quaalude) by the time we hit south Georgia.
