Photopass + - New option available April 4th - Page 2 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I saw this today, too. We never buy the ride photos since we get the PhotoPass CD as they are extra, but I'm considering adding this. Since we have pre-ordered we would just have to pay the difference in the two packages.
we are thinking the same thing, and now we could have the ride and dinner photos

This would definitely be a good value for our family as we do a bunch of character meals each trip and always end up buying at least one or two ride photos. With as many character meals (and Hoop Dee Doo!) as we do, I always want to buy the photo packages but have always been turned off by the prices so usually turn them down. Same with ride photos. We always budget in about $200 or so for photos (PhotoPass CD and "extras") so I think the extra bit of money on top of the "regular" PhotoPass CD deal would be an great value for us!
Of course, my luck would be that by the time we get down to WDW again, the price will have gone up to $250 or so and I will end up having to rethink it.
Thanks, Marnie! This will be an interesting option for me. Since I don't visit WDW regularly, I'd really like to purchase more pictures to remember our vacation. That plus the fact I'm always the one taking the pictures and never in the pictures! The cost is a bit steep, but if I could plan ahead to take advantage of all the PhotoPass and ride opportunities, plus the few sit-downs n we'd go to that offer photos, this might work for me for those few times I make it to WDW!

I was just reading through the comments and I'm still not happy with the lack of answers. The thing is that if you pay for CRT and Akershus then you get a print package with that already. I guess this means they add it to your CD as well, but honestly if I have the prints I'm not too worried about if it's on the CD.
Also, it's odd to me that they say that if you preordered the photopass CD for $99 or $119 you have to pay up from what you originally paid. It kind of takes away the perk of pre-purchasing. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think I've heard this on here before: If you buy tickets through Undercover Tourist but then want to upgrade to more expensive tickets you can do that and it will go off of the current ticket prices (I think you have to use it once first?). I would think it should go off the fact that you have a photopass CD credit and make you pay the difference between a regular CD and a plus package. If they change it to that then we might get it, but since I paid $99 for mine it means I'd have to pay another $100 to get it. Not worth it to me. $40-$60 up from the regular cost I could maybe be ok with.
Sorry for the ramble, my brain is a little right now after reading over 200 comments on that post.

I agree with you Jaime! I think they should also have a pre-order price for it. You are right about the park tickets. If you use them once, and then upgrade, you'll get the full cost applied to the upgrade. Who knows, maybe they'll be getting rid of that next!

From what I've read, you're absolutely correct. Adding the CRT & Akershus photos is not really a bonus because the print packages were already included. You can already add photos from a print package to a Photopass -- the numbers are printed along the side. On our last trip we bought several print packages: Ohana, Chef Mickey's and then the included packages at CRT -- and I added them all to our Photopass.
They aren't giving a discount for people who preordered. I guess my feeling is that they think they don't need to do offer it in order to get people to buy it.
Here's why I still plan to upgrade. In addition to the print packages we'd probably purchase at meals (just Ohana and Tusker House this time), we always get our Splash Mountain picture. Last trip I also purchased the photo from my first ride on Rock N Roller Coaster. And our first ride on Expedition Everest. This trip my youngest DD will have her first ride on RNRC and my other daughter is dying to go on TOT. So at a minimum, I'll be buying 3 ride photos. 3x15= $45. Two $30 photo packages at meals = $60. With the bare minimum of what I'd purchase in addition to the CD, we're looking at $105. Might as well pay the extra $100 and get ALL our ride photos.
I'm a scrapbooker and love photography, so your mileage may vary. However, I think it's worth it for us to upgrade from our prepaid Photopass.

Thanks for this info. I knew that it was included with Chef Mickeys, but people on the link were saying it wasn't on the photopass, so I didn't know if you couldn't add CRT on already. If you can already then that makes it worth even less to me this trip. CRT, Akershus, and Garden Grove are our three character meals this trip, and Garden Grove isn't a place that does photos.
We've only ever bought one dinner package (last year when we had family that goes every 10 years or so with us) and we've only ever bought one ride picture. I'm not sure it would be worth it for us, but I can see how it would pay for folks that often get that stuff. Now, if I can get my husband to realize that we don't need to spend that extra $100 to add that on and we can use it on something else, that would be great. :P

I don't care much about ride photos (although I do take a digital pic of the monitor for fun) but if we were to do a few meals where we plan to purchase photos it is worth it I suppose.
I think it's a nice option, but it's certainly $$$. That said, we pre-purchased for $99 and will probably pay for the upgrade on our June trip since we have a few of the dining locations and the kids will all be riding each of the attractions and will want the photos.
