As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

We've decided to splurge on V&A's for our 2nd Anniversary in October. We love wine with dinner and enjoy trying wine pairings, but we're not sure if it's better to do the pairing (an extra $60 each) or just order a couple of glasses each, to go with different courses.
If we go with the by-the-glass option, which courses would be good to pair with? We've never done a meal like this with so many different courses. Usually just apps, entree, & dessert.
TIA!

Victoria and Albert's menu is market inspired and changes constantly. I think in this case you should talk to the somelier at the restaurant. The somelier can suggest pairings if you decide to only do a few and explain any benefits of doing the wine pairings.
Mom calls to check on me and reminded me to pay the gardener. I love her so much.
Disneyland was fun with flag retreat and pickles. I have a home here, thank you. GAC is NOT a "front of the line pass".
She is gone but keeping signature. Laundry is getting done. My purpose in life is to help poor people in FL. Farewell, will miss you.
Personally, I'd do the wine pairing. It just adds to the luxury and ease of the experience, and really isn't *that* much more than a couple of glasses each. If you do decide to do only a couple of glasses each (by which you mean order a couple of regular glasses of wine? Or ask to add a couple of specific wine-pairings onto your meal? Bear in mind that each glass of wine in a wine-pairing scenario is smaller than a typical glass of wine ordered at a restaurant), I would probably have a glass right off and then a glass with the main meal. Dessert wines are not my favorite.
Congrats on your anniversary! V&A is a wonderful way to celebrate it.

We did the Queen Victoria room in October with the wine pairings and had a great time--it truly added to the meal and some of the wines were absolutely stellar. (Think $100 bottles) I think it is definitely worth the extra cost! (Plan on a cab back to your resort.)
I went through this same debate when we ate there last summer for my 30th. It's a lot of wine! We ended up me ordering the pairing, and my husband just ordered a glass. But he tasted mine with a taste of my food (we always order different choices so we can taste everything!) I think it's nice to do the pairing, if you're going to do it, do it all the way I say
When we went, even though we didn't do the wine pairing, our menus suggested wines for every course and we got a port with our fruit/cheese course at the end of the meal. This was many many years ago, but with a traditional place like V&A's, I think they'd stick to what works.
So, ask yourself this: Can you handle 5-7 glasses of wine with dinner? Are you willing to let wine "go to waste" so that you can be sure to enjoy your entire meal? If not, then you might just want to go with the regular menu and order based on their recommendations (whether on the menu or based on your likes, they can recommend at that point). Or, doing what Melissa did and one of you ordering the wine pairing and you can split it might be a good idea....
We did V&As many years ago on our honeymoon (1999) with the wine pairings. As someone else said, the pours are smaller than a typical glass of wine, so don't let the amount of wine worry you. We really enjoyed it, and it allowed us to try some new things that we might not have otherwise ever had since we typically order what we know when we order by the glass.
One of the things we had was the Iron Horse Fairy Tale Cuvee. We're not big sparkling wine drinkers, but we loved it. And they told us that it is bottled exclusively for Disney, so, of course, we bought a bottle to bring home with us. I think we opened it on our 1 year anniversary.
If you're splurging for V&A, why not go all the way!
Thanks for all the input! I was leaning toward the wine pairing, but it helps to know it's worth the splurge.

Thanks! V&A is on our mutual bucket list. We figure now is as good a time as any. Life is short, y'know?
We were thinking of a couple of regular glasses, maybe one with the apps or fish course (or whatever) and one with the main course.
DH did the wine flight at Artist Point a couple of years ago, and he really enjoyed it. I think I just had a regular glass with my entree.

"Too much wine" is not really a problem for us! We had the Iron Horse at our wedding dinner, and when we went back for our 1st anniversary. I love sparkling wine (as long as it's not sweet), and the Fairy Tale Cuvee is delish! I think we have a bottle around here somewhere. Might have to break that out for my birthday next month.

I did the wine pairings the last time we went about five years ago and I really enjoyed doing that. You get a full glass per course, I will warn you, so I practically rolled out of there!
