Women's World Cup - The US rocked it today!!! - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Did anyone else catch the US Women in the Women's world cup quarterfinal against Brazil today? It was AMAZING!!! Getting incredibly bogus calls from the referee, saving goals on penalties which is incredibly difficult, playing 60 min down a player, scoring when they HAD to, and winning in PKs.....I about had a heart attack! I love US men's soccer, but have just recently gotten into women's too...and let me tell you, they won me over BIG TIME today! Outstanding!

Wasn't it a GREAT game?! We had to drive DD to camp so had to tape the game. Watched the minute we got home. Love that the US won - especially with all the Brazillian theatrics!
It was a great game. Near the end with the faked injury--I thought to myself "Karma is going to get pay back for that one." I was right! Some amazing obstacles to over come, but that makes for an even better win!
HOORAY!! And they are IN THE FINALS!!!!
Unfortunately, I'm driving to Colgate University this weekend to check DS in to soccer camp. The game is at 2 Sunday, and check-in is at 3:30. Hoping to find a sports bar in the Hamilton, NY area to watch most of the game.

Thanks for the update.
DD had tennis at the same time as the game today. I was rather relieved -- afraid to watch for fear I'd jinx something.
Thank you for the update...I got to see the first goal today and then had to go to the doctor's. I too am dropping my daughter off at camp on Sunday and will miss most of the game....GOOD LUCK, LADIES!!!!!
Wooooohooooooo!!!! 3-1! So happy!!! I didn't watch the game until this evening, because I had to work today. I threatened my co-workers with serious assault (ok not really, but they didn't test me) if they said anything about the game before I left work this afternoon. They know how serious I am about my soccer! LOL Can't wait for Sunday! Japan's a very disciplined side....should be a great game.

Everyone's entitled to their opinion, but I thought we played a GREAT game today! Japan did as well, which showed because it came down to penalties. It was just Japan's day to win, so congrats to them! USA can keep their heads held high after that game though. (The 15 shots in 30 min doesn't mean "look how bad they are, they didn't finish those shots" it means "look how good they are, they are making opportunites right off the bat and eventually the opportunities will become goals." In soccer there are always lots of shots that aren't goals. The number of shots wasn't "shots on goal" it was just shots. Big difference.)

Ashli, I totally agree! Just finished watching the game as I was driving home from dropping DS at soccer camp in NY (where they were watching the game in an auditorium on a movie screen!) so had DH tape it and kept the radio off so I wouldn't hear anything about the game.
Yes, unfortunately the US had a lot of shots but no goals that first half, but it was a great game. And I would much rather see Japan as champions than Brazil. Japan never gave up, and aside for the late red card, played a clean and fair game. The officiating was good. Everyone gave it their all, but it was Japan's day. And with their tragic year, I can smile for them winning.
I have to admit, that after everything Japan's been through this year, it was good to see them have something to cheer about. Just sorry it came at the US team's expense.
Our cable went out just after the second half started. After waiting what we thought was an appropriate amount of time for it to come back, we headed out to find a sports bar to watch in. Took us three tries to find a place where the TVs were working, and by then it was tied 1 all.
The one thing I really don't understand was the first penalty kick by Japan. I swear our goalie didn't even react.

It was an exciting game to watch. I was so happy my DH picked our daughter up from work so I could see the end of the game. As it turned out, he got back in time for the kicks at the end. I was disappointed that US didn't win but as Carolyn said, the win was nice for Japan.

Yes! I was so pleased with the officiating. She held back and let them play, only getting involved when necessary. Both teams also played very cleanly, which I appreciated. The late red card for Japan brought out a bit of a sore spot for me - but the referree did what the rules called for, and that's all she could do. (I am a BIG proponet of the idea that a red card given for "impeding a goal scoring opportunity" should result in a penalty kick, no matter where on the field it is given. In fact, you have a better chance to get the goal if you are running in one on one with the goalie from outside the box, than you do from inside the box...so many more angles available when you are outside and running.)

First - about your cable going out - I would have had a COW! That cable company would have been getting a LENGTHY speech from me, whether it helped anything or not! LOL
About the 1st penalty - I thought the same thing, so after the game I rewound and looked again. Hope actually did start to jump to the wrong side, and as soon as she realized she chose wrong, she stopped because there was no way she could change back fast enough. She does that a lot. It kind of drives me crazy because it looks like she's not even trying, but I guess it makes more sense when you know you're not going to get there than trying to swerve around and risk your knees or back or something. Those balls are going so much faster at the goalie than it looks on tv.

The thing that was really odd was that the first two places we went to had Direct TV, not cable, and all their screens were black, too. One of them said it seemed to be an "area wide" problem. The BW3 where we ended up wasn't all that far from us (but toward the next big city) said they never lost service.
