Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Indianapolis?

Thinking of heading through Indianapolis on our way East.
Other than the Speedway (which won't be open for full tours, just the museum), what is there to see and do? Places to eat?

We're debating between staying in Indy for a couple of days, or making Indianapolis a short stop and swinging a bigger loop to Cincinnati for the Underground Railroad museum and Louisville Slugger. DD is a Civil War buff, so we're thinking the UR center might be worth the extra drive.

Off of the top of my head I'll say Indy is a great place to visit!! There is a fabulous zoo, which is part of the White River State Park. All of downtown Indianapolis is easy for walking. There is the Soldiers and Sailors Monument, Indianapolis Childrens Museum(largest in the WORLD), the Artsgarden, or if you like sports: the Pacers at Conseco Fieldhouse, Victory Field to watch the Indianapolis Indians, then of course there is Lucas Oil Stadium for the Colts.

Do you like to shop? You cannot forget about Circle Centre Mall.

A fantastic place to eat is Oceanaire Seafood room where they get their seafood flown in fresh, daily, but I actually like the very local old deli, Shapiro's. Best darn pastrami on rye you can get.

A great place to stay, if you are so inclined is the Crown Plaza a Union Station. You could sleep in a Pullman car! I've always wanted to stay there. I have stayed at the Westin downtown and really enjoyed their Heavenly Beds.

If I can think of anything else that can help you, I'll let you know!!

Thanks for posting. DH and I are going to be there the first weekend in June and were looking for things to do. DH has been there several times for the GenCon gaming convention but has not done much around the city. Thanks for the tips

The Underground Railroad Museum would be a fantastic thing to see. Also at Cincinnati is a great zoo and Great Wolf Lodge is just north of it, right next to Kings Island.
Not that I want you to miss out on Indy, but I do enjoy those things in Cincy!!

That's the place! I had it bookmarked.
Underground Railroad center has really crazy hours, which may affect our thinking.

Thanks for the info on the hotel in Indy, though. That looks really cool!

Soldier's and Sailors Monument has a breath taking view. Indianapolis is the crossroads of America and from way up on top of that monument you can see why. The sculptures are noteworthy also. South of Indianapolis is the art colony of Nashville and south of that is Brown County state park that is renown for its breathtaking Autumn leaf changes. There is lots of underground railroad history in Indiana as the Quakers had many stations there.

Lots of info given. I'll second all of it. We love Indy - and we're natives! Not to mention, if you're race buffs at all, there's the Indy 500 Museum. It's actually pretty fun and interesting.
I have friends that do GenCon every year, working for one of the companies, and they say that most people never leave the hotel/convention center area (which is all connected by walkways and tunnels). I don't doubt your DH has never seen anything of Indy!
A great place to eat is the Eagle's Nest Downtown Indianapolis Restaurants, Indiana Dining Guide, IN Nightlife & Area Bars - Hyatt Regency It's got great views of the city and is very romantic with good food!

White River State Park, with it's canals, gardens, the zoo on it, the museums (Indiana State Museum and the Eiteljorg Museum), gondola rides, surrey bike rentals, paddle boat rentals, etc. is the most fun place around!! http://inwhiteriver.wrsp.in.gov/

You'll be coming in the weekend after the Race, so the hotels will be anxious for customers - you might be able to get some great deals!

Teresa, I am glad you mentioned the Eagle's Nest!!! I kept drawing a blank on the restaurant on top of a hotel! Plus the Westin is right next door if you didn't want to stay at the Hyatt.

The OP mentioned the Indy 500 Museum..........I also meant to say that if you can visit it you might see something neat!! It is a great place to go, even if you do not like racing(I do not). This is the 100th year of the Indy 500, so I bet the museum has extra stuff.

You are so right! They have quite a bit more, since it's the 100th anniversary. I'm not a racing fan, didn't even know where the track was in the city I grew up in until I started dating a guy from further west of Indy than that (DH), but the museum is awesome! I'm a real car buff, though.

As far as good places to eat:
if you come to my town (west of Indy), we have a great place called Mediterranean Grill, owned by a family from the Mediterranean. The food is fresh and yummy!

West of Indy, but not too far west, is Rick's Cafe Boatyard,

Downtown - the best places other than those already named are Fogo De Chau (Brazilian meat - all you can), Yats (Cajun/Creole food), Shula's Steak house, Barcelona Tapas, Asian Chao, and Bazbeaux Pizza are our family faves!

We spent a weekend there and really liked the city. We stayed at the Hyatt Suites downtown and walked around a lot. The capital is there and a few other sites. We also spent some time at the zoo which was nice. We visited the track and mueseum. The track is in Speedway Ind. which is West of the city - I think

Right, it's not too far of a drive.

I think there is a Hard Rock Cafe downtown too, and Mo's Irish Pub.

The Century building is there too......it is where the font Century was made. It's really an interesting old, building. The State Capital building is gorgeous!

My DH and his friends aren't that bad. They do go out to eat, walk around downtown and head back to the hotel to sleep and shower daily.

You are sort of correct, Michael. The Speedway and Speedway, Ind are west of downtown, but are actually in the middle of Indy - the city grew around the town of Speedway!! The town has maintained their own identity - including one of the few towns surrounded by the city with their own schools - the high school mascot is THe Sparkplugs! We used to live there - within walking distance of the Speedway.

I currently live in one of the suburbs west of the city, about 15 miles from the Speedway, and we can occasionally here the cars on the track!

So... if you were going to be in Indianapolis for one day, doing the Speedway in the morning, what would you do with the rest of your day?
What would you add for a second day? We'll have DD with us, but we're out of the Children's Museum market.

Does Indianapolis have any "famous for" foods, like Cincinnati has chili and Evansville has brain sandwiches?
