Make your choice Adventurous Stranger...A Goin Solo PTR - Page 2 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Ok, I know I said I wouldn't make any ADRs but I did anyway. Just one. Le Cellier. Had to. I felt compelled to! After months and months of reading TRs and how truly awesome Le Cellier was I figured I owed it to myself - I am going for the F&WF after all!!! So on my first nite, at 4:50pm I will be FINALLY going to Le Cellier.
Phew! What a relief! You just made all of us hyper-planners feel much better! Sounds great so far!

I guarantee, you will thoroughly enjoy being solo. There's nothing like it!! As stated, be cautious and aware of your surroundings. But overall, it's the most worry-free trip you will ever take! I think everyone should try LeCellier once, so I'm glad you will be doing that. The rest of your trip, flying by the seat of your pants, sounds both relaxing and exciting!

You ever notice that once you purchase a vehicle, you see more of them on the road? It's like you've never seen that car on the road before. Well, that's how going solo is to me since booking my trip. There are a TON of solo traveler's out there!!
I'm so glad everyone has some great tips for me so far. Yes, I'll definitely have to grow some eyes in back of my head. Usually, I'm in a food coma at the F&WF along with a wee bit fuzzy due to imbibing a little too much.
I will see you there sister!!! Right now I have plans to go Oct 5-12, also going solo. I did that for the first time last year for the F&WF and LOVED!!!!! it. I had the dining plan and sat down at a table service every day and it was way too much for me so this year I am getting the quick service dining plan. You cannot miss the 3D dessert party or the party for the senses if you can afford them. They are foodie heaven! MNSSHP is also a must. How exciting!

I have the Party for the Senses on my wish/to-do list but I must investigate the 3D Dessert Party!!!
Definitely doing the MNSSHP. No doubt!!
I did the Belvedere Vodka beverage seminar last year's F&WF but it didn't teach me anything I didn't already know. Might try a seminar with a Chef.
Glad to know another peep is going solo same time, hopefully we will meet up!
So, six months from now, I'll be passed out in a food coma somewhere in WS with an empty Grey Goose Slushie glass next to me. If found, please put me on a boat to the Dolphin. Thanks!! Much appreciated!
Love this!!! Just found it and I'm commenting now so I can find to stalk later.
Loved your last TR so I'm sure I'll love this one!

Happy Planning! Off to read the rest!
Why Hello!! Good to hear from you again. I actually just learned to insert a link to my PTR in my signature (I learn SO much from this website!).
Um, I can't help but notice the badge under your sig pic says 1 day until your Disney adventure. Is there a PTR I missed?? OMG, I can't keep up with all the PTRs/TRs. I feel like an addict!

Yesterday, I started a wish list of things I'd like to do on my solo trip. I then realized that a few of the things on the list are expensive. I also realized that some of the tickets for the things on my list will be going on sale shortly. Good thing I started planning 6 months out!
So far the list reads as follows: (in no particular order)
Party for the Senses ($225 I must be in Wine View Lounge)
3D Dessert Party ($45)
Tequila Tasting ($45)
Culinary Demos ($9-$13)
Authors without Borders ($0!!)
Authentic Taste Seminars ($0!!)
Book Signings and Meet & Greets ($0)
Signature Dining Events ($125-$395 )
Beverage Seminars ($8-$12)
MNSSHP ($89)
Tour - Inspiration: Through Walt's Eyes at DHS (?)
Cirque de Soleil ($$$)
Then there is the challenge of scheduling. I am only in WDW 4 days (unless SWA opens a later flight on Monday morning). Thursday nite I have my Le Cellier ressie which means I only have Friday nite for MNSSHP. 3D Dessert Party is Thursday or Friday so looks like I'll be running straight from dinner to the party?!? Might have to move Le Cellier to Sunday night if possible. Party for the Senses is on Saturday. Of course, I'm going on last year's calendar, these events could be different this year.
Has anyone done any of the above events and what are your opinions? Obviously MNSSHP, Party for the Senses & 3D Dessert Party rank high on my list.
Good luck squeezing some things in from your list. Your trip may go from free and open to highy scheduled spreadsheet real quick!

So true!! I am actually working on drawing up a worksheet to help me decide which to do and how much I'll do it in. Not sure I want to run around the World like my pants are on fire ya know?
Think I might actually end up cancelling Le Cellier and just enjoy the Parties. I just don't know. I'm going to go bonkers over this.
What a great trip this will be for you!
I would suggest if you'd rather do the parties/seminars to skip Le Cellier - it will be there, but these might not since they're only offered during F&WF.
Also, Sanaa does have a bar. It's to the right of the hostess stand, left when you enter the restaraunt. Here's a pic I took in June 2009:

Thanks for the pic, I loved Sanaa!! You are absolutely right, Le Cellier will be there for quite some time. Maybe I'll just wait til next time!
The 3D dessert party is held in the pavillion like party for the senses except it mostly dessert items. They have some cheese and such. Last year they were flambee-ing donuts, yum! There is also alot of alchohol ( all included in the price). There is also a surprise at the end, the 3D part, do not want to spoil it for you. I wanted to get into the wine view lounge last year but booked too late, I did notice that even though the wine view lounge is front and center, there is a walking path between it and the cirque performers, which I would imagine would be annoying. I found that there were plenty of seats and I met some nice people sharing a table with them. You get a wine glass at PftS and you take that up to the wine booths and they fill your glass, so you are using the same glass over and over, they have wash out stations. It is so much food and so fun. Let me know your final plans, maybe we will be at the same seminars.
