Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

You need to watch the video "F*cking Perfect" by P!nk on YouTube - Broadcast Yourself.
It is a great message and talks about this subject. Love P!nk & I think she'll be an amazing mom!

My sil and my sister are both like that...they have the perfect children and it drives me insane. They do no wrong, they won't even tell you if something went wrong in their house. Goodness...if we thought they weren't "perfect". Give me a &%#$ break. I don't even want to be around their children. Oh, and my sisters son is now 30 and let me tell you, he is socially inept in many things (can't talk to us, refuses to come out of his room to visit etc) but they were raised "perfectly".

Yeah, I raise my voice to my kids but not all the time (more times than other times). I am trying so hard to make them independent and not to have to be "micro managed" which is a tough tough thing for me...hands off more. My dd still has tantrums at close to 5 but that is because we don't let her away with things and set limits too, but she has to learn that she can't have her way all the time. And yeah, she just bit her 9 yr old finger yesterday

Thankgoodness I am not the only "not perfect" parent out there. I am sure my sil and sister snicker behind my back. But I can tell you, I have had more compliments about my sons behaviour at school. He might not be perfect at home (he had tantrums til he was 5 or 6) but he is respectable in public.

Thanks for posting this!!

AARRGGHH!!!!!! My wonderful "perfect" DS is lucky he isn't locked in his school locker right now!!! As I drove back to work from a meeting with his teachers, I thought about this thread.......

DS tests out as "gifted" according to his school counselor and yet.....the little twerp is failing three classes, mostly due to laziness!!! AARRGGHH!!!! I just have to keep telling myself how much I love him and that throttling him would be a bad idea.

Okay, a little calmer.....we have a game plan. Now if it just works.

ITA with you Teresa. I think we moms do each other a great disservice when we paint things as all rainbows and unicorns. Parenting is not for wimps.

I was the same way. It wasn't really laziness - I just always felt I "had better things to do with my time". And a big part of it for me was: I understood the lesson the FIRST time the teacher gave it .... and then the class reviewed the subject ... and again .... and again ... and again ...

So, yes, eventually I just lost interest in the entire subject.

I guess what I'm saying is: blame boredom, not laziness.

Indeed, for just an example: to this very day, I cannot stand "the damned raven poem", the one by Poe. From second or third grade, through eleventh grade, it was part of the lesson plan Every. Single. [CENSORED]. YEAR! And at least once (4th grade, I believe), TWICE in the year: the original teacher got pregnant, and had to take a leave of absence (after we did the darned poem). And our replacement, several months later? Did the #@&%ing poem again!! GAAAH! So every time that came up during highschool ... I just switched my brain off. Didn't do any home-assigned writing about it either. For a while, though? Could recite the bleeding atrocity from memory, verbatim ... yet always got an "F" for that part of the class.

I think that is the perfect child. That pretty much sums out my kids -

Although, I don't think my kids ever hit anyone (other than each other) when they were little but DD#2 did call a senior citizen not nice because he called her and her sister little boys. Probably didn't help that Grandma looked a him and shrugged and said what do you expect their girls. And they did gang up on a couple of boys in preschool and kiss them. It was a problem them but some how those now teenage boys are dreaming twins would kiss now. LOL

You can brag about your children all you want and it doesn't bother me, unless you're inferring that my children are inferior to yours. Then I get a little testy. No child is perfect, but I choose not to brag about my kids' shortcomings!

This is a great topic. I actually feel sorry for the parents who think their kids are perfect and dedicate their whole lives to achieving an impossible goal. Where I live I see people spending so much $ to make their kids "high achievers" I feel sick sometimes. DH and I actually like our sometimes bad-but-never-robotic daughters.

I couldn't help but laugh at this.

DSis and I have Mensa IQs. She chooses to use hers, I don't.
My own kids have high IQs and we've struggled with them to get them to do homework, etc. It's like another poster said - it's not laziness, it's the feeling of "I already know this, why should I have to prove it to you?" There were a couple of things we found did work - when they entered middle school, we stopped asking for their grades. If they want to show them to us, fine. Otherwise, we don't see them. ALL of our kids have done better in school once they realized it was on them, and not OUR problem. Something they can control completely. We don't punish for bad grades, we don't reward for good. IF a child comes to us and is upset over his/her grades, we help them decide what they can realistically do to improve themselves. It's worked for us when other things have not.
I do still ask them if they have homework or if they need help understanding something, but that's as far as my involvement goes.
I know it's not the answer for everyone, but it worked for us. As I often tell other people "I already passed grade X, why would I want to go through it again?"
