As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). On our August trip, we'll have a "free" day in the L.A. area between our day at Universal and Disneyland days. My original plan called for a guided bus tour of L.A., but now DH is doubting the idea (not sure how our 2 year old will tolerate being on and off a bus for 6 hours. ) and he suggested checking out Knott's instead and using our first day in the area (actually a 1/2 day as we are driving into town before noon) to do a self guided tour of the area, hitting a few of our "must-see" highlights.
This is DH's first time going to the state of CA . . . and I grew up in SoCal but have never been to Knott's as my family has always been "loyal" to Disneyland.
Being that we are military, we can get tickets at a significant discount but my main concern is that one or more of us may not have as much to do as others. DH will ride pretty much everything, however DD doesn't do big metal coasters (especially those that go upside down), I don't do big coasters of ANY kind and, well, DS is 2.
I have heard mixed reviews from friends, however only one has gone recently. Would we be better off going and eating Mrs. Knott's chicken and not bother going into the park?

DS will have plenty to do at Camp Snoopy...lots of kiddie rides that are made for roughly 8 and under. How old is DD? If she's around 8, she will probably enjoy a lot of Camp Snoopy as well.
Generally, if you start comparing Knott's to Disneyland, you'll be disappointed. However, if you want to try something different, there's something for everyone there. But whether you decide to go or not, gotta go get some chicken!

Camp Snoopy would be fun for the kids. Do you guys have a beach/waterpark day scheduled? I'm just thinking how hot it is in August, and my kids loved water stuff at 2.

I grew up in So Ca & we spent lots of time at Knotts.. It is different from Disneyland, But very interesting. I don't know how much it has changes over
the years. Mike & I visited the outer Knotts & went through the shops & had a nice meal. If you can get a great deal on tickets I would go for it!
DH and I talked about it and after going through the website with DD, we're thinking she (being that she is in that "in between" stage ---- she'll be 10 and while she is tall, she doesn't like the real big coasters yet is getting too "big" for the kiddie rides) may not enjoy it as much. More than likely, DH will want to be hitting all the big coasters/rides and DS will likely want to stay put in Camp Snoopy and not go anywhere else . . . therefore, DD will be bored out of her gourd.
We looked at other options and are thinking about heading to the Aquarium of the Pacific (and maybe the Queen Mary) that day instead . . . we can get Aquarium tickets even cheaper than Knott's.
. . . . but I'm still getting Mrs. Knott's chicken.
If you can get tickets at a good price, I would go, we went in 2008. the Chicken is the best part of it, if you've ever been to a Cedar Fair park that is what to expect but on a smaller scale. I would recomend going to Hollywood blvd for the day and seeing the sites there, seeing the star on the walk is a great thing to do and free. Just paying for your parking in a garage. Plus seeing the Chineese theather too...Have a nice trip.

I like your new plan, Sarah. If you like fried chicken, you might want to look into Roscoe's Fried Chicken. They have a location right near the Aquarium/Queen Mary. No disrespect to Mrs. Knott's, but Roscoe has her beat! And the waffles are to die for too.

What melee? Tell me, please. We were just there in July and it was OK. I'd rather take a day and go to Newport Beach and veg out, playing in the sand and water....

Was that the promotion they ran years ago for 5 cent admission where people rioted because they couldn't get in? What the devil were they THINKING. That is pure insanity. Bet they won't run that one again.

On our list! The only thing I have been afraid of as far as going up to the sign is that Stewie (our GPS ) will take us up a road we aren't supposed to be on.
SO . . . being that the "empty" day just needed to be decided on, and it now has been, we have a final plan. We're driving down, taking a couple of days to do it as we are stopping at my parents' in Oregon on the way. Once we get there, the plan is:
DAY 1 (actually more of a 3/4 day, since we get into town before 11am): Tour and stay in LA DAY 2: Universal Studios (move down to Anaheim) DAY 3: Aquarium of the Pacific (my parents, sisters, BIL and niece arrive in Anaheim that evening) DAY 4, 5, 6: Disneyland DAY 7: Drive to San Diego DAY 8, 9, 10: San Diego DAY 11: Start heading home
On our list for LA: Grauman's Chinese Theater, Walk of Fame, Disney Soda Fountain (those can all be seen in one fell swoop . . . and parking fee. ), drive up to the Hollywood sign (maybe Griffith Observatory), La Brea Tar Pits. And it seems like I am adding something to the list every day, which is surely going to have to be pared down or moved around since we'll have less than a full day.

Cinco de Mayo is a Mexican national holiday. Those who got into the park spent the whole day in the lines for bathrooms, food, water, etc. Packed park and then add everyone wanting into the park for nearly free. That for me what the worse than Les Nesman's turkey fiasco. FREE = stampeding mobs wanting something for nothing and any first year business student should know about crowd control and the result of such giveaways. That showed to me that they did not have good management.

I Knotts. My parents took me there before DL was build. I really like the ghost town and mine ride, and the chicken dinner They make candy onsite. There is also a shopping village 'outside' the area requiring admission, and a replica of Independence Hall with a great program.

There was also a "smart" horse show with a horse that could count & pick answers to questions....

My first visit, the only non-animal ride was the train. There was the stage coach, and horse and mule rides.
