As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

I've already hit a glitch. I can't seem to find a hotel for ComiCon by the conference center (already!!). I thought it would be prudent to plan ahead for that.....looks like, not ahead enough.
While it isn't *right* by the Convention Center, the Hampton Inn Downtown is not far away. It wasn't a bad place at all, so you might check that one out!
The Trolley has a stop right behind the hotel and you can take that to the Convention Center. Ordinarily, you'd take the blue line from the stop behind the Hampton (Little Italy station) to America's Plaza and transfer to the orange and take that the Convention Center. However, being that it is ComicCon time, they will more than likely be running the special Red line which will go directly from Little Italy to the CC.

Hotels near the convention center for Comic-con won't be available to book until sometime next year (usually in March, I think). Keep an eye on the Comic-con website for when hotel bookings begin. Also, watch out for when comic-con memberships for next year go on sale. Memberships for 2010 sold out in October of 2009.
You can also book a hotel on the trolley line as a backup in case you don't get a closer hotel through comic-con.
I can second Muir Woods with Sabine. It's one of our San Francisco must do's (and we go several times a year). It's seriously one of the most beautiful places on earth and very visitor friendly. We also loved the the Walt Disney Family Museum. If anyone in your party is interested in the man and his life. It's my favorite museum anywhere (I'm not biased!). It was put together by Imagineers and you can feel that throughout. My kids also really like walking the Golden Gate and riding cable cars. And of course, clam chowder in a bread bowl or fresh crab. Our favorite thing in the Monterey area has been whale watching. My kids loved the aquarium when they were younger, but now it'd only be me who'd want to go. Yosemite is also gorgeous! It sounds like a great trip.

Is whale watching seasonal on the west coast. I know here you can see whales in the summer and the very early fall (1st week of October) but not at other times. If I remember, we didn't do a whale watch when we were there in October because they weren't running. My ex and the kids did a glass bottom boat trip, which was a flop because there had been storms in the days before they did it and the sea was too churned up for them to see anything. I can't remember if that also may have been the reason for no whale watch.
My kids also like hanging out at Fisherman's Wharf. There were tons of sea lions and pelicans and they went crazy with their cameras.
Sorry, I don't have advice, but it sounds like we are planning very similar trips. We want very badly to visit Redwood NF and Kings Canyon area but there are so many other places that we want to see too. My DH is in love with San Diego, my friends all tell me to go to San Francisco, I've never been to Disneyland and really want to go there! Too much to do!
Looks like the comic-con website had a melt down yesterday when memberships for 2011 went on sale. They will post next monday (Nov 8) when they will try to sell tickets again.
