Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Tomorrow is "Picture Day"

Have ya'lls kids already had photos made at school? Tomorrow is "the day" for our kids. Our older two already have had football and cheerleading photos made that came out great!

Re: Tomorrow is "Picture Day"

Yes, ours were on 9/11. But I didn't buy any, they were just too expensive. And we take a lot of photos ourselves, so we have a lot of the kis already. DS had football pictures taken Monday night.

I remember those days. Our next photo op will come in December when DS graduates college. They grow so fast!

Re: Tomorrow is "Picture Day"

Off they went - in the pouring down rain - to have their photos made. Michelle, literally, we had 30 different package selections ranging from $10 for the basic to nearly $75 for the top of the line. We just get a 5x7 for us, 3x5 for each set of grandparents and a set of wallets - which cost us $13/kid. Oh yeah, and the studio had a HUGE scam this year - have your picture taken with either a red, purple, blue or green background (rather than the standard slate) for an extra $3! They marketed them as designer colors for today's school kids - we went with the standard slate background - who are they kidding?!?

<font size="2" face="Comic Sans MS, Arial">That's a pretty decent price, I think something comparable to that was $24 for mine!

Re: Tomorrow is "Picture Day"

Our kids had school pictures taken on the third day back to school, Aug. 29th. They cost way too much money, but we paid for them anyways. Too lazy to go to Walmart or Sears. We got 1 8x10, 3 5x7, 2 3-1/2x5 and 22 wallet sized ones for C$27 each child. (that'd be roughly $17 U.S) We got the photos back about 3 weeks ago and they're actually pretty good. I'm stunned because the photographers won't wait for a nice pose - just herd them in and herd them out. Our gimmick this year was called "Soft Impressions" which is supposed to hide all their zits. Costs $5.00 more and all you end up with is a blurry picture of your kid. Luckily, our kids aren't covered in acne (yet?) so we didn't even consider it. You could also get 18 stickers of the photo for $12.

Steve, a similar package to yours would cost us $21. Converts out to around $13 U.S.

Re: Tomorrow is "Picture Day"

Our nephew has his senior pictures this year, and guess what? They are charging them a $10 sitting fee just to get the picture taken. So even if you don't want to buy the pictures, but want your picture in the yearbook, you have to pay.

Re: Tomorrow is "Picture Day"

Our daughter'six day is on the 23rd of this month. They are pretty expensive. 48.00 for 1-8X10, 3-5X7's, 4-3X5's and 24 wallets. We have the special backgrounds too. 5.00 more for purple, green, magenta or rainbow which looks like laser beams. We are going with the plain also. We are having the family x-mas pix taken the next day. We go to Olan Mills and it is usually under 50.00.

Re: Tomorrow is "Picture Day"

My DD had her picture day on Oct. 1. We must all have photographers with the same scams running. We also had the option of the colored backgrounds for an additional $3, and the soft spot for an additional $5. I just bought a small package for $15. Last year they used a different company and the package prices were much higher, so I really didn't complain this year.

However, last year they took the kids pictures again in the spring and SENT THE WHOLE PACKAGE HOME! So, if you didn't want the pictures, you had to send them back. The trick is that they were so good, we bought the whole package. I thought that was very tricky of them.

Re: Tomorrow is "Picture Day"

Ours are coming up on Tuesday. We always get the basic pkg - 1 8x10, 2 5x7, 2 3x5, and a dozen wallets - $28 per kid. Luckily, I will get a family discount this year - for the third child in the same school - it's half off. Next year my oldest moves up to the high school, so back to full price! The last two years, I got a $25 discount. Every year they ask our PTO for two volunteers to assist, and they get a coupon. This year we had more than two volunteers, so I backed out to give someone else a turn for the discount.

Re: Tomorrow is "Picture Day"

Rebekah's pic day is the 30th and Zach's is the 25th. No info yet from Rebekah's school but I just happen to know about Zach's, as I'm in charge!

The packages start at $15 and go to $28 for 3 8X10's 3 5X7's 4 3X5's 15 gift wallets 16 wallets and a class photo. A third child from the same family is free. The prices reflect a $5 mark up which is a fund raiser for the PTO.

Re: Tomorrow is "Picture Day"

Just had DD's done Saturday at Sears. Even with a coupon the total came to $112. We are getting a lot of pictures, but the price is pretty high in my oppinion. Especially considering the girl got her to smile for 1 of the 4 poses and the camera froze up. By the time she got it unfroze, DD was too cranky to sit still for anymore pictures.

Re: Tomorrow is "Picture Day"

When we were kids one of my sisters did the same thing to another the day before she was due to have her pictures taken. She cut her bangs off right tight to her head. My mom to her to the salon to see what they could do which wasn't much. She ended up trying to camoflage it with a big floppy bow which didn't really work either. Believe it or not it will make the most memorable picture (although not the most beautiful).
