As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Yard Sales
Love Em or hate em????
We are having our annual yard sale this weekend & I for one HATE THEM!!!!! DH loves having them & we usually make a nice profit but I don't like having them... just don't like people looking at my stuff DH deals with the people.. I sit on the patio & watch
We've got a ton of stuff to sell this year. When we moved my Grandmother in with my Aunt ( before she died) we literally brought her entire apartment of stuff to my house & put it in my gameroom & basement.. plus the kids have outgrown a ton of toys & bikes so we've got a YARD FULL!!!! Hopefully a lot of it will go.. if not we're going to donate it...
Any suggestions on a good place to donate the furniture & toys???
Wish us luck.. Any money made is going in our disney fund!

Re: Yard Sales
Do you ever grab anything and tell DH not that I'm not selling that! Good luck with your yard sale.

Re: Yard Sales
I'm with you! I hate them too! My mom has 2 garage sales every year! I used to have to help her with them, but when I went back to work 6 years ago and started working 2 jobs I told her I just didn't have time to mess around with it anymore. Now my sister helps her which is fine cause she's into it! I really don't like to go to garage sales either. I figure I've got enough "stuff" of my own, I sure don't need to buy somebody's elses!
Good luck with your sale though and I hope you make lots of Disney money!!!

Re: Yard Sales
Love em, going to them that is! I can't stand having them, it's not worth the effort. I usually consign my stuff and if it's not worth consigning, I'll donate it.
Does your church have a flea market or white elephant sale, you could donate your leftover there!
Good Luck with the sale, add lots of $ to that Disney account.

Re: Yard Sales
I am a yard sale junkie....if we pass one, I have to stop. But I don't just buy more stuff for the sake of more stuff (I didn't spend this whole year simplifying for no reason, lol )
but I do look for bargains. For instance: a telephoto camera lens for $10 that retailed for $169, a dried flower arrangement for $5 that has to be worth at least $50, and a wonderful old cast iron pot to hold firewood for $20.
Can't pass up a bargain!
Sue

Re: Yard Sales
Love going to them just to look for a few select things (antique books, fabric remnants, and Tupperware or Rubbermaid containers ). As for having them ... I don't love setting them up, but I love getting rid of "stuff." It's always nice to have less to pack up after the sale is over.
Ann -- here's wishing you great success and perfect weather!!

Re: Yard Sales
I love going to yard sales, and have gotten some fabulous bargains, like stiffel brass lamps for $15/each, a full service for 12 (including platters, bowls, etc.) of vintage china for $20, and a set of mikasa stainless for 18 for $25. I've also stocked up on toys for visiting neices/nephews for next to nothing (kids books are always the best bargain at yard sales).
That said, I don't think I would ever go through the effort of having one...I usually donate to Salvation Army and take the deduction, which I think probably ends up being about the same amount of $$ in the end, with no work.

Hate them. I figure I have enough junk of my own. Why would I like to buy someone else's junk.
Hope your yard sale goes great and you make lots of money for your Disney account.

Re: Yard Sales
I'm not into buying other people's used stuff, especially clothes...eeew! But I love having our annual yard sale! People will buy ANYTHING and I love it when people try to negotiate over 25 cents with me (they, of course have no idea I'm in sales!). We typically net about $800 or so each year, so I'll gladly go through the trouble of getting rid of a year's worth of junk - it's just an amazing thing!

Re: Yard Sales
A friend of mine has asked me to help her with a yard sale and we'd use the money for a WDW trip. A stay at the Grand Floridian!
How's that for incentive?

Re: Yard Sales
I love them. My mom was a single parent with 4 kids to raise, so they were a godsend for her. Now that we are all more financially sound we still love a bargain.
We will be having a family yard sale on Labor Day weekend. I will use the money we make for our WDW trip the following week.

Re: Yard Sales
Just got done with day 1 of our yard sale & we did fantastic... netted $433 & it was a lot of piddly little things that sold. I had a ton of small toys that I was selling for a dime each & tupperware & tupperware type containers for a quarter & they really sold!
Jim is having the sale tomorrow too. I don't DO the yard sale, he deals with all the people~ there was one very overweight guy here with loose fitting shorts on & every time he bent over we saw butt crack.. Well, I was overloaded on caffeine this morning ( had to get up at 6am to help Jim set up) & kept laughing hysterically in the house!
Oh,....I overheard the cutest thing today.. A little girl about 5YO came with her grandparents & she was playing with Shelby ( my DD) & they were walking towards the toys & the little girl said "Grandma, I'll be over in the toy aisle with my new friend" It cracked me up,... a toy aisle??? I knew I had a lot of toys but an aisle! I got a kick out if it!
Will let ya know how tomorrow does... Still have a couple 'big' items I'd like to sell ( anyone need a great condition washer & dryer??)

Re: Yard Sales
We just donate our stuff to the church youth garage sale. That's how they fund their choir trip and summer camp. This year's sale grossed over $50,000. That's not a typo. It's a 2 day sale and it gets bigger every year.
