As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

We've really had quite a year with our furbabies. Last Christmas, Maggie (8 yr old lab) had to have stomach surgery. She swallowed a leaf whole and got all stopped up. Long recovery and so much fun keeping an active lab calm for 6-8 weeks.
In Feb. my 12 1/2 yr old Brittany passed away. It was a pretty tramatic ending. Then both of my labs got cold/flu/kennel cough from the dog next door. (thanks )
Now, Maggie has torn her ligament in her knee (ACL) She has to have surgery next Tuesday. We were at the vet office yesterday. I cried the whole way home and several times last night. I was worried that we were doing the right thing by proceeding with expensive surgery and long long recovery or if it was more humane to put her down.
We went for a second opinion today and I just felt better about the prognosis. Yeah, she still has to have surgery but the vet's office is 6 blocks away. Yeah, it's still going to be long recovery. She'll have to stay in her crate for 4 weeks and then another 4-8 weeks of just laying around in a secure area so she doesn't jump. But the vet is confident in her recovery.
It's going to be a long haul for Maggie, for Glenn and I (mostly me), and for our younger lab. (missing her playmate) I may be starting a new job (part time - thank goodness) in a few weeks so life is about to get crazy. Thanks for listening. You guys are the best.
UPDATE:
Maggie had her surgery today. Her ACL was totally shred and she had bone spurs. The vet said that everything went really well though. He was going to keep her drugged up tonight. He will call in the morning and I can go see Maggie. He said that she will come home Friday afternoon and that they will go over everything with me. Thanks for the pixies and kind thoughts.

Lots of pixies for your furbabies!! I'm so sorry you've had to go through all this. Our little terrier finally had to go to heaven in June after months of his body just shutting down on him and the vets not knowing why. It's amazing how soon they can bounce back from things like surgeries though so hopefully recovery will be swift!

I know what you're going through - our Pixie tore her ACL quite a few years ago. We got that done, ONLY because: 1. she was young and 2. we were able to find a country doctor who would do it for less ($500 as opposed to the $3000 the other doc wanted). As old as she is, personally, I'd ask them to do the "Rubber-band" repair. This is the repair we had done to Pixie - it's not as great at the one involving rebuilding the bone/knee, but it's cheaper and has a shorter recovery time. Either way, you'll still have to keep her still for awhile. Most vets won't do the repair on larger dogs, though - because it's not as good. Well, Pixie's has been good for the last about 5 years, so I'm happy.
Pixies for you all - it's not fun when your dog gets injured and needs help.

I know how hard it is to watch our pets go through difficulty. Hopefully she'll have many years ahead. Do you give her otc joint medicine (clondrotin? and glucosamine?). It worked well to help our older dog with joint problems.
