As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). I'm mulling over the idea of a visit to Texas in late April 2011 (I know, I know, I tend to plan ahead as far as I can... ), but what I keep wondering is would it be too hot for us by then? We really start to suffer in brutal heat - anything above the high 80s really drains us. I'm assuming it's not a humid heat, more dry?
Any advice anyone can give me would be great - I just want to work out at this stage whether this idea is a goer or not, then if it is, I can look into it a bit more thoroughly.

It depends on which part of Texas as to whether it's humid or dry and to whether it's hot. We've been to San Antonio and College Station in early April for Easter. It was cold but the bluebonnets were out. We usually try to travel there in early April or late October or November because of the heat affects me.
Glenn lived in Texas for quite awhile so he'll post his thoughts. Our kids and grandkids live in Texas.

Premier to San Antonio would be visiting the Alamo (almost mandatory for a visitor to go here) and the San Antonio River Walk (shopping and restaurants). Six Flags Fiesta Texas theme park is probably on the level of Universal Studios - and there is also a Seaworld, much the same as the one in Orlando -- San Antonio also has numerous museums, a botanical garden, and several Spanish missions that are open for visitation.

San Antonio is definitely on the list - we also want to visit Houston and Dallas.
Oooooh I hope we can get together in Dallas! As for our "heat" we have a humid
heat here. Lorie is correct in saying that it depends on where in Texas you are
staying. Up here in Dallas we get some cooler weather than say San Antonio.
Houston is more humid than up here is Dallas (which is 5 hours away). Easter
time is a nice time to visit the bluebonnets are out and everything is green and
in bloom.
Since you are thinking of Dallas, Houston and San Antonio if you are driving
say starting in Dallas down to Houston and then over to San Antonio then you
could do a quick stop in Austin. It's on the way from San Antonio back to Dallas.
If you are looking at April you should be fine temp wise with low 80's but
cooler nights and a nice breeze. We get some great rain in April also.
My DH drives these trips for business every month and if you have any
questions, let me know.

Like everyone has mentioned, April seems to be the best month of the year. Actually, I like March and April for traveling dates. Houston will be your hottest city. It's alot closer to the coast and the humidity will really sneak up on you. But the nights in San Antonio and Dallas during this time are pretty comfortable.
The Riverwalk in San Antonio is absolute beautiful at night and you can get some pretty great margaritas. Of course the Alamo is a must!!
Houston to me is pretty crowded and tends to get really hot during the day. It just depends on where you go. But the further south you go in the state, (such as Houston), expect more humidity and heat.

I have to be honest, having read your posts, I am still in two minds about whether it would be OK for us - you are all talking about humidity at that time of the year and that's not something we do well with.
Another question - just out of interest - how is the weather in December? I'm wondering if it would be better to possibly plans until a later trip, if the weather would be better then. It's just hard to know what to do, but I know that us and heat and humidity don't work.

December can be pretty pleasant in Texas. The ranges for December are going to be 40's to 60's.
Dallas is far enough north and on the plains so you can get a real, honest to goodness winter some years. But in general they will be 40's to 60's also.
Humidity is not an issue in December. October to mid-December are the best times for weather in Texas. South Texas has two seasons, summer and not-summer otherwise known as HOT and not so hot.
So, I think December will be very pleasant for you BUT (there is always a but) that time of year weather is changeable. We may get a real winter in Dallas, snow and all. I'm going to say 40's at night to 60's but we can get in the 30's or below freezing. But if that does happen, it won't go more than a couple of days.
Fair point - I guess it's a big place. I was thinking of any (or all) of Houston, Dallas and San Antonio.
Hey! don't forget Austin!! Yes San Antonio has a lot of must see attractions such as the Alamo but I wouldn't plan an entire trip there unless it is a quick one.
In Central Texas which includes Austin/San Antonio the average temp is around the 70's although it can reach the 80's on a rare occasion. April is considered one of the best months to visit. December is cool but there aren't many fun outdoor events to attend because us locals run indoors.
For perspective on driving distances Dallas is about a 4 hour drive from Austin, Houston is about 3-4 hours the other way.
If you do decide to visit TX you can also PM me and I can send you some pointers as someone who started out as a tourist here.. In the mean time the Texas visitors center can send you a great book for free.
The weather in Dallas this past December was in the 60's and high 70's for most
of the month. We sometimes get the winter weather but that is really in January,
Feb. and sometimes March. I would say that early to mid December is a great time
to visit Texas and the humidity is low during that time.
We don't get heavy snow in Dallas but we do get ice most of the time. I have worn
shorts for Christmas MANY times over the past 19 years here.
Just something to keep in mind is that Texas is so large you can have say snow in
Amarillo, rain in Dallas and sun and heat in Houston ALL on the same day. It's
been known to happen from time to time. That is from one side of the state to the
other.
