Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

This just in...military discounts

I got this off of another board....

May 12, 2003 -- Walt Disney Parks and Resorts officials announced today a special opportunity to honor America's servicemen and women. "Disney's Armed Forces Salute," beginning now through Dec. 19, 2003, offers active U.S. military personnel a chance to enjoy complimentary, multi-day admission into Disney's U.S. theme parks and discounts for Disney Cruise Line, with additional special offers for family members and friends.

"Our company has a longstanding tradition of supporting our armed forces -- even as far back as World War II -- and today we continue that commitment by honoring these men and women who have served their country," said Jay Rasulo, president of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. "We believe this offer will allow our troops to create some wonderful magical memories with their friends and family."

"Disney's Armed Forces Salute" is offered through Dec. 19, 2003, by both Disney vacation kingdoms in the United States -- the Disneyland Resort in California and the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida -- and June 19 through Dec. 18, 2003, by Disney Cruise Line. Active U.S. military personnel, with proper U.S. military identification, are eligible, including active members of the United States Coast Guard and activated members of the National Guard or Reservists.

"Disney's Armed Forces Salute" is part of a larger Walt Disney Company effort to support United States troops at home and abroad. The scope of Disney's efforts includes several initiatives through ABC, Inc., ESPN, Disney Channel, Disney Consumer Products and The Walt Disney Studios. The Walt Disney Company and ESPN are USO World Sponsors, providing more than $1 million in financial aid, in-kind support, outreach and marketing efforts on behalf of the USO and its programs. Over the next several weeks, Disney will present "Armed Forces Sneak Peek PremEARS" at various military bases beginning May 17, National Armed Services Day, through June 10.

In addition, DisneyHand has donated more than 200,000 videos and DVD's to families and personnel on U.S. military bases around the world and provided a combination of first-run movies, library classics, and ESPN The Magazine for troops. Further, ABC-TV's Drew Carey, star of "The Drew Carey Show" and "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" and former member of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve, has visited and entertained troops several times over the past two years.

The Walt Disney Company employees continue the tradition of running Disney's Operation Uplift, through which employees send messages of support and thanks to U.S. servicemen and women.

At the Disneyland Resort in Southern California:

During the offer period, each active member of the U.S. military can receive one complimentary 3-day "Disney's Armed Forces Salute" ticket valid for admission to both Disneyland and Disney's California Adventure™ parks through Dec. 19. Additionally, active U.S. military personnel may make a one-time purchase of 3-day Disney's Armed Forces Salute Companion Tickets during the offer period for up to five family members (including spouse) or friends for a special price of $39 each.

Disneyland Resort Hotels are offering room rates for active military personnel at a 40 percent savings per night, based on the non-discounted price of the same room. This offer is available most nights through Dec. 19, and the number of rooms available at this savings is limited.

For general information regarding "Disney's Armed Forces Salute" at the Disneyland Resort, or to make reservations, military personnel may call 714/956-6424. Information is also available at disneyland.com/military.

At the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida:

Each active member of the U.S. military may obtain one complimentary 5-day "Disney's Armed Forces Salute" ticket during the offer period, valid for admission into the four Walt Disney World theme parks, two Disney water parks, Downtown Disney Pleasure Island and more, through Dec. 19. During the offer period, active military personnel may make a one-time purchase of this same ticket for $99, plus tax, for up to five family members (including spouse) or friends.

Select Walt Disney World Resort Hotels also are offering room rates for active military personnel at a 40 percent savings per night, based on the non-discounted price of the same room. This offer is available most nights through Dec. 19, and the number of rooms available at this savings is limited.

For more information on "Disney's Armed Forces Salute" at the Walt Disney World Resort, or to make reservations, military personnel may call 407/939-7424. Information is also available at disneyworld.com/military.

Theme Park Offer Details:

"Disney's Armed Forces Salute' tickets can be obtained only at Main Entrance theme park ticket windows.
Active military personnel (or, if they are not present, their spouses) must present proper military identification.
To purchase the tickets for family members or friends, the service member must show the complimentary ticket issued to them.
Activated members of the National Guard or Reservists (or, if they are not present, their spouses) will also need to show active duty orders.
Tickets for family members or friends may be purchased only by the active service member or spouse, not both. No more than one ticket may be purchased for any family member or friend.
Last day of use on "Disney's Armed Forces Salute" theme park tickets is no later than Dec. 19, 2003.
A valid ID may be required for admission.
This offer may not be combined with any other offer.
Walt Disney Parks and Resorts ticket information is available at military base ticket offices.

Aboard Disney Cruise Line:

Disney Cruise Line is also extending special rates to active military personnel on most of its vacations between June 19 and Dec. 18, 2003.

Disney Cruise Line offers seven-night cruise vacations to the eastern and western Caribbean, and three- and four-night cruises to the Bahamas. Approaching its fifth anniversary this summer, the line features new itineraries to tropical ports of call, renewed age-specific activities that interest not only children, but also teens and adults, and expanded dining experiences.

On select sailings from June 19-Aug. 24, "Disney's Armed Forces Salute" rates start at $379 for a three-night cruise, $429 for a four-night cruise and $799 for a seven-night cruise. On select sailings from Aug. 28-Dec. 18, rates start at $349 for a three-night cruise, $399 for a four-night cruise and $599 for a seven-night cruise. All rates are valid for standard inside staterooms. The number of staterooms available at these special rates is limited.

For more information or to book a Disney Cruise Line vacation, military personnel can call Disney Cruise Line.

Re: This just in...military discounts

We are taking advantage of this the first week in Dec. We also took advantage of this a year or 2 ago(I cant rightly remember!LOL!!) when they offered this during the operations in Afghanastan. That time we went to Disneyland. This time it is WDW.

I must say that I am very impressed w/Disney, Universal and Sea World's(bush gardens) response to military personnel and their families.

My husband has been in the Air Force for 17 1/2 years and its only been since Sept 11th that he and we by extension feel that anybody has really appreciated his and our sacrifices. It is very heartwarming indeed!!!!
