Need tips to control 2yo DD's CRAZY static hair - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

Moving on with the current of the years.

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

DD's short, extremely fine hair is so static-y that it looks like she put her finger in a socket. And if is isn't sticking straight out all over, it's stuck to her face. She is allergic to Bounce, so I can't rub a dryer sheet over her hair and the static just out of control!

Try a leave-in conditioner, anything that will keep the moisture in her hair. I've even used a little hand lotion on DD's hair to help combat the static/frizzies when I didn't have anything else available.

I was going to suggest a little hair conditioner too. Just a little teeny bit rubbed on your hands, then lightly rubbed on her hair. Or try No More Tangles. That's pretty much the same thing as leave-in conditioner.
If not the conditioner, I swear by Frizz Ease Secret Weapon Flawless Finishing Creme. I use it every day and it's great...just a little goes a long way. You just rub a little in your hand and smooth it over your hair.

I've used Frizz Ease before too. Now I use a leave in conditioner daily. I also don't wash my hair as often in the winter. It helps your hair replenish it's natural oils.
I don't know if Static Guard is the same thing as bounce, but you can spray a brush with it and brush her hair.

I wouldn't think that the small amount of conditioner in a leave in conditioner would make her hair greasy....I will sometimes make my own leave in by mixing a "squirt" (I know very exact measurement) of conditioner into a med size spray bottle filled with water. I just shake it up before I use it each time and it works great and is a WHOLE lot less expensive than buying it already made up. You could then just spritz her hair with that.

I have used the leave-in conditioner or a no more tangles brand of spray since DD's hair was long enough for it...no greasiness...we also braid her hair before bed every night...keeps the tangles at bay...and helps with static too...if you don't want to put the leave in stuff on her hair directly spritz the comb or brush with it.

Thanks for tips! I love your idea, Jennifer! Mixing it in a spray bottle with water. I think that might work best with my little squirmer! And thanks, Danielle, for the braiding tip - Mimi's hair is too fine and and just not quite long enough to hold a braid. But even if it was, she's in the phase where she will have nothing in her hair - no barrettes, no hair ties... it's loose and free or its no good as far as she is concerned! Thanks for all your tips - I will try the conditioner idea and see how it goes. Keep your fingers crossed! I might have to take a picture of her crazy static hair for you, though, because it is indeed hilarious!!!

I was going to suggest hairspray (tiny amt. on your hand or brush) or
conditioner in the tub. I found the leave in conditioner to be greasy
(I have very thin, fine blonde hair) so this is something I watch for.

You're going to think I'm crazy - but give her head a misting of Spray Starch. It won't hurt her hair, or her, and it'll be just enough to keep her hair from frizzing out/flying all over the place. A friend gave me the tip because this winter has been terribly dry, and I've been very happy with the results.

At first it did make Brooke's hair greasy but then I tried mixing it in a spray bottle. I mix about 1 park conditioner to 5 parts water and it seems to work. Her hair is baby fine, but she has a lot of it and it's down past her little bottom so static is a problem this time of the year We also braid it before bed each night to keep the tangles in control.
DJ and I both have the same problem this time of year. At home, I keep water on the stove to boil a couple of days a week to keep the house from getting too dry. When we go out, I bring a little spritz bottle in my purse with 3/4 water and about 1/4 Bio Curl on Cue. (Bath and Body Works doesn't make it anymore. I've just been hoarding it and only using my last 2 bottles for static-y winter days. )
Johnson and Johnson has or had a spray in for kids that worked - No More Tangles. Worked wonders for my little balder than normal, wispy haired darlings (all 3 of them). We used it up until 2 years ago, when Lauren was almost 8.
