Our Disney Vacation with Fay and the Crab Assasins - COMPLETE!! - UPDATED 9/16 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Our Disney Vacation with Fay and the Crab Assasins - COMPLETE!! - UPDATED 9/16
Our Vacation with Fay and the Crab Assassins
Bubby and Kittykats Disney Adventure Trip Report
August 15 to 22??? 2008
For those of you, who read my PTR, let it be known that the radar was clear up till 3 days before departure, so if the actual TR looks a lot different—blame Fay!!
We scheduled this Disney vacation after we found out we would not be going to China for the Olympics. My niece found out she wasn’t going to be on the team that went over, so we scheduled our first family vacation to Disney world instead. Having saved a good chunk of money for China, it was easy to plan the “perfect” Disney experience for my Hubby and Kids who were all going for their first trip! That is until Fay butted in! She did not ruin our whole trip, and in fact added some interesting things to it. As far as where the "Crab Assassins" come into play, you will just have to wait and see.
The Cast:
DH: 50, first time to Disney
DS: 11, first time to Disney
DD: 9, first time to Disney
Me: 40, 5th time to Disney
DGM: My mom, 4th time to Disney
DGP: My DAD, 4th time to Disney
Accommodations: Wilderness Lodge for all six of us, then Disney’s Vero Beach resort for my four after DGM and DGP go home.
All of us with 5 day park hopper passes. All of us flying Air Tran.
Our Journey- Day One
I had been packing for a week and had all of our suitcases zipped and ready at 1 am on the 15th, then I set out our one carryon that would hold toothbrushes, hair dryer etc. All the stuff to be packed that morning. Then I went to bed. (I need to tell those of you who don’t know it that my DH has said from the beginning of the planning that he did not understand why we had to go to Disney. He thought it would be like just any other amusement park only more expensive. But as the planning went along I could see some excitement building, even if it was just overflow from our kids.) So an hour later and hubby is restless, and I told him I couldn’t sleep, and he grins and says “neither can I” LOL. He was too excited. We did finally get a little sleep then,
Mom and Dad picked us up at our home, near the interstate at 6:10 am. Friday August 15th! Our flight #703 doesn’t go till 8:35 but we have to go to the park and ride first and Dad doesn’t want to take any chances. So we actually get to the airport at 7am and it takes about 30 minutes to sort us all out and get our bags weighed and checked. Then we head to the security checkpoint where I had already told the kids about taking off their shoes. So no worries there. BUT, that is when Mom realizes that she forgot to bring her drivers liscense!! We were all getting our boarding passes and license out for them to check and she had switched purses that morning for the trip and left her ID in the old purse!! We were worried she might have to go home to get it, but we all went through without incident, then Mom joined us a few minutes later after being searched and scanned!!! Whew!!
So now that we are all through security, we head up to our gate, and some of us get coffee and the rest find seats, and then we wait! We are all a big bunch of tired overly exited vacationers who want that plane to go go go!!
Finally they called our zone and we got seated 6 of us all the way across row 11. So we could all see each other and both kids got a window.
DD9 had only ever flown in a small private plane, so this was her first Jet. She was a little nervous, but soon enjoyed looking out the window at the tiny world below. Our flight had a lot of turbulence and the seat belt signs were on almost the whole way. But we arrived safely at 10; 30 am. At MCO. Finding the DME was trickier than I thought, but before long we were on our way. It was raining cats and Dogs and unfortunately our DME bus leaked!! It was not one of the pretty painted ones; it was one of the plain yellow busses. It rained all the way. But my DS who has a tiny bladder, who had used the facility right after we got off the plane, had to go again. But the bathroom on the bus was out of service EEEEKKK. Fearing the worst start possible to our vacation, I went forward and told the driver. He said he had to go to Poly first anyway and we would be there very soon, that DS could get off there and the bus would wait for him. Good. So DH and DS got to see the beautiful Poly lobby before anyone else!! On to WL. We arrived at about 11:30 and began looking around the huge lobby, Mom and I went to check in. All went well, my poem did the trick and we got side by side rooms overlooking the pool, on the fifth floor. And my package had arrived as well. So up to rooms 5021 for us and 5023 for M&D. Great rooms!! We had the bunk beds. Everyone was thrilled with the rooms. Perfect view of the pool. According to all the info I have read and heard, we were expecting to go into MK and figured our luggage would arrive when we came back, but by 12;30 when we had finished sizing up the rooms and freshening up, OUR LUGGAGE ARRIVED!! I know they say it takes three hours, but ours happily did not. Too Cool. So we quickly hung a few things up, got situated, and headed for the boat dock!!
Great start. I can't believe your Mom forgot her driver's license. Thank goodness she was able to get through anyway. We were also there at the same time, so I can't wait to hear about how you survived Fay.

Great start! Wow what airport did you fly out of? I'm shocked they let your mom through without id!! It's a good thing though! Would you have had time for her to go home and get her license?
