Forums Closed

As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Tis the season!
Well, Christmas is fast approaching! I happend to make a trip to the mall today to soak in some of the spirit and spend some cash....but why is it that every year I seem to forget how bad it is that I loathe the mall....at Christmas time? Why is it that everyone else at the mall is in a big hurry and sure that their time is more valuable than mine, that they need to push infront of my kids so they can see the lava lamps...my kids dont count...they need to push and shove and cut in line with a snarl and ugly looks of torment on their faces. OH the joy of Christmas!
I will not let these ugly people get to me!! I shall kill them with kindness! I shall smile and look them in the face and say..."OH!! pardon me....I didn't mean to be in YOUR way! Had I known it was YOU I would have shoved my kids aside for you and cleared a path..YOU are so much more Important than us....I cant believe they didn't shut the mall down to the public when they heard you were comming!"
I shall never become one of these nasty rude people. I vow to live in a Disney state of mind and use gentle sweet sarcasm to kindly remind those who annoy me at the mall, that there are more people in the world that enjoy lava lamps....they are not alone!!
rough day at the mall....my feet my wallet and my faith in human kind are all hurting.
I think I am being dramatic

Re: Tis the season!
DD came home for Thanksgiving. Her flight left last night around 10 so of course yesterday was, "Mom, can we go shopping?". The mall was packed and full of not so kind people...even the Disney store!
That is about the time I start to hum Christmas carols or sing-a-long to the mall's sound system and I let all the bad encounters melt away.

Re: Tis the season!
Truthfully, I hate Christmas shopping. I can't stand all the crowds and hustle and bustle. I'm thinking about doing all my shopping on-line next year or giving gift certificates. I know I have to go to our Mall sometime soon. Maybe we'll get a blizzard and I could go then, at least it shouldn't be too busy!

Re: Tis the season!
We will be making our mall trip either today or tomorrow. I refuse to go on weekends when they are packed. I hate the way people act. I wonder if people really remember the the true meaning of Christmas?

Re: Tis the season!
This is why I do my Christmas shopping early. If I see something for Uncle Bob in March, I buy it then and put it away. I have also done 80% of my holiday shopping on line for the last 3 years.
I do make at least one trip to our local mall to check out the decorations and drop off something at the Toys for Tots bin.

Re: Tis the season!
I do all of my shopping (mostly anyway) before the season hits or shop online. I then go to the mall just for the hustle and bustle, that way if it gets to me I can just leave.
I did see one poor cashier at KMart Friday being treated very badly by some people. This was about 11:00 AM and she had been working since 4:30. Her boss came along and told her to shut her light out. At that point there was one woman behind me. Well, people kept getting in her line and she kept telling them she was closed after the lady behind me. One late said "Bull #$%&, we were in line before you turned your light on and we're not moving" (they weren't). The cashier kept telling them she was closed and they kept refusing to move and arguing with her. Finally she said "OK, but I am closed after you". Well another lady proceeds to get in line after the people with the foul mouths and the cashier tells them she is closed and points out that her light is out. This lady says "Well, are you going to open another line?" (very snotty). The cashier says "My boss told me to turn my light out" and then ignores the lady who finally goes to get in another line. During this whole time the cashier was scanning my items. I did my best to be very nice to her and made some sympathetic comments and wished her Happy Holidays. The poor lady!

Re: Tis the season!
As a retail manager, I am reminded daily (all year long) at how poorly some individuals can act. It is very sad to see how un-human some people can be. Recently, one of my fellow co-workers was smacked in the face by a customer. A very sad state of affairs...
So, please shed some cheer ALL year long to each other.

Re: Tis the season!
The Christmas Spirit is alive and well! How do I know? I went to the mall yesterday, but not to go shopping. My MIL wanted to take the baby to see Santa and have his picture taken. When we got in line to see Santa, one of his helpers put up a sign behind us to let everyone know that Santa would be taking a cookies and hot cocoa break after he saw us. Santa was incredibly patient with my little guy who is very grabby - all swinging arms and sticky drool-covered fingers! When he was about to leave to go on break, Santa stopped to talk to us and even asked to hold the baby again, to talk to him one-on-one. So there's my little guy - nose to nose with Santa, giggling and hugging Santa like they're best friends. I wish I had my camera! Santa told us how lucky we were - that this would be our very best Christmas ever - he promised!

Re: Tis the season!
I nearly quit during the middle of my shift on Friday! I had about 6 really terrible people (and I use that word loosely! They walked upright and looked like the rest of us, but they were the nastiest creatures I've ever had to deal with) within a span of less than 2 hours. I usually have a "roll with it" kind of personality, and I smile through darned near everything, but working in retail during the Holidays is definitely a test of my good nature! I found that thinking "You're not allowed to dropkick the customers! Punting the customers would be wrong"! really helps me. And making a point to be sickeningly polite to the nastiest customers usually helps to at least keep the rest of the customers in line stay on my side and realize I'm doing the best I can so that I don't end up with a snowball effect of nasties.
And something that has totally surprised me is the number of people that go shopping after tipping back a few glasses of "Christmas cheer"! I had a customer on Saturday afternoon, that I think after she left my till, my blood alcohol content was over the legal limit just from breathing her fumes!
