Leaving in 11 days! Anything we shouldn't miss? - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Okay, all you experts! I have been to WDW 5 times....2 as an adult traveling with another adult. Here's the deal....what are the not to miss things for boy/girl 5 years olds????
We are doing the P&PP, BBB, Storytime with the Fairy Godmother, Character dining, etc. I know we won't get to do everything cause we have to save some pool time but I just don't want them to miss something they would have really loved. My little girl is all about the princesses...and my son is a PIXAR and Mickey fan.
I am a planning freak, so it is very difficult for me to not keep to a schedule but I think with little one's my scheduling my just go out the window!! We have park hopper tickets so we can jump if need be. I have read all the books but some of the touring plans seem way to regimented and rushed to me. I think they are fine for older kids but I don't think my kids would do well with running all over the park. We need to take it alittle more leisurely with the twins and my 78 year old father in law. Although he will have an ECV and I am renting a double stroller.
I know we are going to miss alot but we will be back! I just want this to be for the twins and what they want to see....because let's face it , it is all about them!!!
I had loose plans for each day but Sunday plans at the AK kinda changed cause relatives want to come up to see us. I have mixed emotions about this because I really want to see them but I want my kids to see each park....
I figure there is still time to tweak...so here it is...I will try to keep it short. Oh yeah, this is the twin's 5th birthday present! I plan to keep alittle down time in the schedule each day whether it be for the pool or just hanging out and enjoying the view. We have a themepark view so if they kids don't make it to fireworks in the park, they can watch them from the room.
Wed...arrival day....just hang out at the Polynesian,,,dinner at OHana
Thursday...MK..appt at BBB and late (2:30) lunch at the Castle.
Friday...Mk..Breakfast at the Crystal Palace, thinking to go back to the resort then for pool and rest time. Back to the MK for 5 p dinner at TOny's and then the P&PP.
Saturday, Epcot and 4p dinner at Le Cellier. I thought we would go over alittle later so they can recover from Friday nite.
Sunday...church, then my original plan was AK..then to Mk in the evening for dinner at Chef Mickey;s. Ths is the day my relatives wanted to visit, I was hoping they would meet us at AK though.
Monday... Disney Studio's and the Coral reef for dinner
Tuesday....is a kind of whatever we missed day, I am hoping to spend a little more time in Epcot. But, if the kids want to do the pool or Mk again, that's fine too. Then dinner at the Whispering Canyon.

Looks like you have a lot of things covered and it should be a great time. P&PP is a must and the kids will love it....my biggest suggestion is to take time to enjoy all the extras at the parks. My kids love watching the mini trains at Epcot, catching a street show at HS or a performance at one of Epcot's countries, playing in the dancing fountains at Epcot or Ariel's Grotto, playing at Legoland etc....I think when we first started going, I rushed them along from those activities to get to a ride but they really enjoy those "down times" and taking advantage pf them has really added to their enjoyment on our trips. Have a great time!

I think your plans are fine. Just remember, you're not going to be able to see it all, so don't worry about missing something We've been 6 times in 4 years, and have yet to see everything! The kids won't know what they are missing And remember to go with the flow of the kids and not to push it
Your plans look great! I think rest and swim time are very much needed...no matter what age! Enjoy this special time with your children! You will have so much fun!
Looks great!! We still take that mid day break and our DD's are 6 and 12. Just really helps us recharge and decompress after being so stimulated. Not to miss I would say the looks on their faces! Take lots of pics. The simplest things make the best memories. Here are a few of our traditonal not to miss MK Mickeys philarmagic Aladdins magic carpets ( the DD's love this more than Dumbo b/c of the spitting camels LOL) Astro Orbiter in the dark EPCOT Illuminations test track Journey into imagination with figment The fire house game at Innoventions the fountains the Norway boat ride ( Malestrom) DHS The honey I shrunk the kids playground Muppets 3-D Backlot tour AK Rafikis planet watch at conservation station Kilamjaro safaris
I am so glad I joined this site! You all have great information and are great for the positvie reinforcement. I am more excited than I think they are because they have an idea of what is about but, really can't take in what it really is yet. I can't wait to see Halle's face when she see's the castle and the princesses up close, As for my little boy, I think when he see his little eye's when he's sees Buzz and Woody, Capt Jack and the rest of the crew! I have alot of memory cards for my camera and am planning to take our dvd recorder...although I don't know how much I will lug that around the park!
As for the must see's many are on my list and now I will add a few more!
I think you're all set - and just keep in mind what others have said, you won't be able to see or do it all, so take regular breaks and just stop to "smell the roses" every so often.

We just watched the Disney DVD with the kids...I can't wait for them to see it all in person. I think their faces will be priceless! I am just going to let them direct most of the days depending on how they feel and what they want to do. We just have a couple things planned other than dinner each nite, If they don't want to do a particular park one day maybe we will try it on another...if they are tired and want to be poolside a day so be it.

Your plans sound great. I hope that your relatives can meet you at AK on Sun. If that doesn't work out for you, I would try to work AK into your plans somewhere else. DS has been to WDW twice, at 4 and 6, and AK is his favorite park.
Well, as it turns out my cousin can't meet us on Sunday....I am a little more than happy about this...shame on me! So, AK still stands. She is going to meet us Friday during our planned time at the resort. I have my doubts whether she can finagle pool passes though. I am not deviating my plans though. We will just see her in June if we can't meet up yet. I kinda feel bad about this but she knew we were coming since August and didn't let me know her plans and how she could fit us in to her and the children's schedules. She just started calling around lst week and you all know there is no way at that point to change reservations!!! As a result, I made my calls at 180 days for ressies.
