As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). I was at the library yesterday, and looking for books on a certain subject. Picked one up, and it felt light. Well, it had been hollowed out, and a small baggie with trinkets in it was in the space. On the inside front cover was a note about Geo-Caching, and asking for it to be left if it had been found accidently.
It even had a Dewey Decimal tag on it, but I think it was fake.
I've heard of Geo-caching before, but never knew what it was truly.
Anyone out there do it? I know where there's a book in Indiana....
We have done many Geo-Caches in our area. There is a website where you can put in the zip code of the area you are in and it will list all of the caches. Chhose one and it will give you GPS coordinates. We use our hand help GPS and go to the location. The kids each pick out a trinket and then we put one back in for each one we take out (we usually get them from the dollar dtore - maybe a rubber stamp or magic towel). You also sign a log book. Then replace the cache for the next hunters.
It's really fun for both adults and kids. There are also hearder ones and easier ones.

I've read a few sites online about this hide and seek GPS game. Sounds interesting, but on the other hand I think all of us have just too much time on our hands!
Dad and were mushroom hunting and found one. We were at a state park in Indiana and found an old amination bow in a tree. Dad thought it was weird and he opened it. After I explained what it was he thinks we should start doing this in our "spare" time. Spare time is a word that doesn't exsist April - July we are running the local Little League. I am President and Dad runs concession

I have looked into this and have been wanting to do it for quite some time. I thought it would be a fun thing to do as a family. We haven't started our search yet, but I hope one day we will.
I think there are some geo "treasures" on WDW property. It would be so fun to hunt one of those down.
My dd, Lori and my niece and her husband go geo caching in their spare time. They're all going tomorrow while I work. Lori thinks it's a lot of fun. Most of the stuff she puts into the caches they find is from either the dollar store or the clearance aisle at Wal-Mart.

How cool to have found a cache. What were the trinkets?
All small pieces - there was an address book that I guess was the log book. The trinkets were small plastic animals, some jigsaw puzzle pieces, some of the tiniest little tea cups I've ever seen, and.....well, that's all I can remember.
Thing is, the reason I picked the book up in the first place was that the title sounded just like I was looking for! I was actually: 1.) Appalled anyone would cut a book up 2.) trying to figure out what on earth I was supposed to do with it!

My former boss does this on the weekends - and she goes traipsing all over the middle of nowhere to unearth these caches. She says it's a lot of fun.
I guess one of the stipulations for Geo-Caching is that the item has to be placed in a location that's open to the public - no private land. Hence the public library (although when I told my former boss about this, she said that's definitely a "novel" idea!) and WDW.
