Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Talking I did It.. I got a Circut Last night..

The one I found at Walmart had two cartridges.. Keystone and George.
So now that I have used up most of my Christmas money what accessories should I get and what is a waste of my money?

I know I want a trimmer for pictures, any thing else?

What do you consider a necessity? I have paper, a corner trimmer and some shape cutters from Creative Memories.

I am trying to decide if I want a wavy trimmer or just get a trimmer that I can put a wavy blade in like the fiskars one?

Can you tell I am just starting out?

I vote to get a trimmer that you can add differnt blades to. Sis and I have about 5 12x12 trimmers beteewn us and 2 or 3 smaller ones. We do have the creative Memorries wavy cutter witch is pretty nice but we don't use it much. If you start going to crops someone will have one you can borrow I sure.

I concider my Xyron "X" sticker maker a necessity, also my scrapbook tweezers. We also have 2 other Xyron sticker makers. Pens for scrapbooking too. They are acid free. I'm sure there is more but I can't think of them right now.

Great find on the Cricut -- you'll probably want extra mats for it
I use my 12 x 12 "guilotine" cutter all the time -- I like it better than the slide style cutter for big papers and pictures.
I also love my scissors with the tiny point -- good for cropping in tight spots
I went overboard buying pens at the beginning -- I have tons of colors, but in reality use black for 95% of my journalling!

Well, now that you have a Cricut, you'll find that finding great deals on more cartridges can quickly turn into an addiction.

Aside from that, my vote for must haves would include:

Tiny pointed, very sharp scissors - Ek Success makes a great line of them
Squeeze and Roll Glue pen for tiny pieces
Fastenator Stapler - the large one (This is a love it or hate it tool for most scrapbookers. I love it, and use it all the time. I use it to adhere ribbons, vellum, etc., and love the fact that it adds the decorative staple bars to the project. They're available in lots of themes. The large one is much better than the small because it has a moveable guide that allows you to line up your staple bar exactly where you want it on any 12 x 12 page.)
Ribbon, ribbon, and - did I mention....ribbon!
Clip It Up organizer - We use 3 in our design studio and find them to be soooo handy!

I second the advise of a good trimmer. I love my 12" x 12" Fiskars trimmer and have used it for years. I would be lost without it. I would go for one that you can change the blades on. A wavy blade would be great for some things, but you will want one that has a straight edge too.

And Barbara's suggestion of ribbon, ribbon and more ribbon? I can't argue with that. I love ribbon!

I would also be lost without my Ranger "Vintage Photo" ink pad. But I love to make my pages look distressed.

As far as cutters go, I like to keep two on hand: one big one (with the sliding blade) that cuts 12" papers and has the pull-out ruler guide, and a smaller 4x6 one that travels well. In fact, the small one I like best is the Creative Memories personal trimmer which even has a little drawer underneath and small cutting pad on top. Very handy for taking to my kids' doctor appointments, in the hotel on trips, etc. I can carry some basic tools in my cropper (corner rounder, scissors, tape runner, a pen), add an envelope of pictures, and have an instant crop-on-the-go kit!

Adhesive is a must. I prefer the tape runner style that has the little bitty rectangles that come off in a continuous line. Creative Memories has a version, and I also find them at craft shops like Hobby Lobby.

I second the thought that black is really the most necessary color. Maybe have one set of 8 other than that, just in case.

Paper! Watch Hobby Lobby (etc) sales for their paper to be 50%. Buy a pack of cardstock in different colors, and pick up some patterned papers also. I usually get these as individual sheets since I don't use as many. However, I found a great pad of 12x12 Die Cuts With a View brand cardstock the other day for 40% off, with nice thick paper and great patterns for Cricut shapes. My favorite is to use my new paper to make gift boxes with Tags, Bags, and Boxes!

I really don't use the specialized cutting tools much, and it seems to be a love-em-or-hate-em kind of thing with my friends. I wouldn't worry about buying the wavy cutters and patterned scissors and circle cutters and a billion punches until you've gotten a feel for your scrapbooking style. I find that using such things often just makes my pages too busy. If I need something for one page, I can almost always find what I need among my scrap-buddies' stuff.

Happy scrapping!!!

Congratulations of getting your Cricut - sounds like you found a great deal.

I would echo those that said precision scissors and adhesive tape runners - those things are in constant use when I am crafting.

I also use a lot of ribbon and brads - I have both in lots of colours.

Finally I would say - think about storage! Buy it as you go and plan how you are going to store and use your stash. There is no point having lots of lovely embellishments and papers and not being able to find them. Can you tell I speak from experience LOL
