As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Re: Steve\'s Extremely Serious Question of the Day 7/18/02
Currently DH and I are taking a break. In the past I have been involved with our Middle School and High School Bands, PTA and have been a Boy Scout Merit Badge Counselor. DH has been an assistant Scoutmaster and then Scoutmaster. Our children are grown and we need a rest.
DS #2 has helped with the local summer swimteam 3 years. DS #1 has changed jobs. He is currently worked with juveniles that have been court mandated into residental treatment. He loves his job. I think we have done an excellent job in parparing our sons to do good works.

Re: Steve\'s Extremely Serious Question of the Day 7/18/02
Very involved in our church. I serve as a deacon, vice president of the choir, sometimes sub for our associate minister of music to direct the senior adult choir. Most of our donations are given thru the church. We buy school supplies for students in the class that a friend teaches, have participated in mission trips, and the local food bank.
I also serve as an officer in as professional club.

Re: Steve\'s Extremely Serious Question of the Day 7/18/02
I'm a member of Beta Sigma Phi! and one of "things" is to community service work. Our chapter has done work with Easter Seals, Breast Cancer fundraising, etc. We also have "adopted" the daughter of a former member who has cerebal palsy. This past year we also adopted a woman who was 6 months pregnant with her second child when her husband walked out on them. We bought groceries and clothing for the family as well as Christmas gifts. It helped to get her on her feet.
I am also involved with the PTA and DH coaches our kids Tball team. Hopefully I can get him to coach soccer next year too.

Re: Steve\'s Extremely Serious Question of the Day 7/18/02
I am active in Girl Scouts, leader, co-leader, chairperson, and now I am involved in the cookie sales part as a council tem member.
PTO is great, I was the Box tops co-ordinator for DD-9's school for 2 years, but she is going to a new school, so I willl have to see what I can do
I also go in to the school 2 to 4 times a week and work with the first graders that are struggling
I collect for the Ronald McDonald charities (both donations and my own time)
I vote
And, I talk to the teens in our town (small school) during their hgh school years about the advantages and disadvantages of teen pregnancy (for those that do not know, I have an 18 yr. old- SamIAm) I had my first at 16 and tell them about the changes and then they ask me about what they are too scared to ask their parents

Re: Steve\'s Extremely Serious Question of the Day 7/18/02
I have volunteered with different projects at my kids' schools. I was the cookie mom for DD Girl Scout troop, does that count? I have also taught Sunday School at my church, directed Vacation Bible School several times. Coached cheerleading. Also helped out with Cub Scouts too. Actually, all this stuff sounds more like helping my own kids than the community! I guess I don't have the time I wish I had to volunteer more.

Re: Steve\'s Extremely Serious Question of the Day 7/18/02
Tough question,
here are a few of my current "contributions" (in no particular order)
Mom, Wife and Daughter
Coach - 1st and 2nd grade soccer players
President - Foundation to raise funds for education
Trustee- Historical society
Soprano-church choir -not the other one associated with NJ
Councilwoman-local elected official
As my DH would put it...I'll do any job that DOESN'T pay. But I love it.

Re: Steve\'s Extremely Serious Question of the Day 7/18/02
My job is how I give back to society. The school I teach at is a very low-income school. Many of our students are lucky to come to school with shoes on their feet and clothes on their back. I take my clothes I don't wear anymore and Stinky's clothes for some kids.
In some cases, the free breakfast and lunch the school provides are the only two meals these kids get. If you've ever seen the amount of food that is served in a school lunch, you can tell it won't fill the middle school child up. DH and I have a stash of food in our rooms for the kids when they are hungry. We will also send food home with kids if they need it.
I may not do volunteer work, but I at least try to show children that someone cares for them and that if they need something, they have someone they can come too.

Re: Steve\'s Extremely Serious Question of the Day 7/18/02
Quite a few years ago, I started a newspaper club for the children at my DD's elementary school. She is now is high school, but I still continue to volunteer my time six months out of the year trying to instill a love of writing in children ages 7-10. I'm not a teacher (my degree is actually in psychology), but I have always loved to write. Parents and teachers are always trying to encourage their children to read, but very few children are given an outlet for writing outside of school projects. The kids meet once a week and put together a school newspaper--doing everything from research and interviews to the actual writing and proofreading. Hopefully this is an experience that these kids will continue to look back on as they get older. I know it has been rewarding for me as well.

Re: Steve\'s Extremely Serious Question of the Day 7/18/02
Being there for my DH, DStepson, DF, other family members and friends who need a shoulder to cry on, a hand to hold or a boost.
I also feel I give back in my job, even though it is my job. I think it is God's gift to me that I get paid to do what I love to do. I volunteered on another ambulance for 15 years, and I still do fundraising and training for them. It is very rewarding to be able to help someone in need, even if they have a "little need" it is a big need to them.
When I told someone recently (after 9/11) that I was a paramedic, he said to me "Oh, you're one of the heroes." I told him I am not a hero, just someone who does my job like everyone else. I just happen to love what I do!

Re: Steve\'s Extremely Serious Question of the Day 7/18/02
I've walked for the Jane Doe fund (domestic violence). I did Big Sister for 7 years but as my Little Sister got older she became very busy and I moved further away so unfortunately we don't see each other much. Maybe when DS is older I'll sign up again but I can't make the commitment right now. I'm a special needs teacher. While I do get paid for my job, I also put out a lot both in money and care. Right now I'm teaching sped kindergarten but I've also done the behavior/emotionally disturbed class and actually hope to go back there. I've fed kids whose parents said they were too much of a pain to feed in the am, brought clothes from friends and family to my students, and do everything I can to let them know someone cares about them and wants them to succeed. Some of their stories could just make you cry.
