As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Is there a way to turn them off? Last year we stayed at Movies and after three days of fighting with that thing, we all ended up with a sore throat . It was either too cold or too hot. I called front desk, but there was nothing they could do.
This year we're staying at Music, and I'm afraid we'll have the same problem, and I certainly don't want to end again with a sore throat!
Any advise is appreciated.

I would ask for a different room, immediately, if you have the same problem. They do run on thermostats, but should be adjustable so they don't run all the time. I know I often have a sore throat after being somewhere with AC, tho; it's always been that way for me.
Sorry, but you can't turn the AC off. You can only change the temperature. Of course, when you turn it way up, the "AC" will go off but at the same time the heating will go on We had the exact same problem last time. We're not used to AC (not needed around here) so we didn't want it on at night but we also didn't want to turn the temperature up too high because then we'd sweat so much at night (it would get really hot) and get a cold anyways!
So I don't really have a solution for this. It doesn't help to put something (like a towel) in front of the AC. Maybe someone can offer advice how not to get a sore throat. The AC, however, cannot be completely turned off.
Disneybine, how did you manage then? It was exactly the same problem, sometimes we were too hot! and we couldn't just sleep well. That was certainly a problem.
I know our AC/heat vents at home have a thingy on them that lets you open or close the vents - a little thing on the outside edge of each vent - maybe the ones at the hotel are adjustable too? That way, you could close one or two vents, to lessen the AC without turning on the heat.

No, I'm pretty sure there was no way to close the vents.
Soaringirl, there was nothing we could do really. We set the AC to a temperature somewhere in the middle for the night so that it wouldn't get too hot or too cold (like 75 degrees or so - sounds like a lot, I know, but it was the only way we could keep the AC from blowing all night...). I should mention that we ended up with a sore throat nonetheless Sorry. Let me know when you figure out a way to prevent that.
Well, thanks anyway. I think I'll do the same, set the AC to a higher temperature.
And yes, I'll let you know how we did!

Thermostat
You can bypass it anytime and they get a lot of requests for it. So here is the way to do it: On the thermostat push the power button and the down arrow(that adjusts the temp) at the exact same time. If you do this correctly there will be the letters "bp" where the temp numbers usually are. You are now bypassing the sensors in the room. You can then set the temp to whatever you want and it keeps the room that cold whether you are in it or not. He, the maintenance CM, then said that you might have to do this once a day as the thermostat tends to go back to sensor mode after 24 hours. We found that it stayed on bypass for a couple of days at a time. It was great to come back to a cold room or not wake up in the middle of the night in a sweat again. The CM that did this for us said it was no problem doing this as they do it for people all the time.

Actually, the AC was on all the time anyways at ASMo, no need to bypass it! The problem wasn't that it didn't stay on but that we couldn't shut it off Thanks for posting the info, though

We had this problem last year at POP, we kept adjusting the thermostat but it was not successful. We just kept it low so it was be cool, if we got too hot, id take a shower before bed or take a swim. Then when we got cooler id put socks on the kids at night and i put the lil one with his blankie and the ones on the bed and I called housekeeping for an extra blanket. This year we really had no problems, it was very cold in our rooms, and it was very hot outside. Only time it got really cold was when we got soaked in the rain and had to go back to the room and we hadnt gotten our luggage yet, due to bell services not delivering in thunder and lightning. That point I took off the kids wet clothes hung them up and used the hair dryer to warm them up, and wrapped them in towels

We just got home yesterday from our trip and stayed at ASMo with the same problems. We set the thermostat at 70 and still all had a sore throat at one point or another. We're not used to AC being on so much here in New England.
