As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). ...Jimmy's umbilical stump fell off his belly button!
Question is: Where is it?
I'm going through the whole spectrum of emotions---thrilled that it's gone, totally grossed out in general, worried that it'll turn up when I find him choking on it, everything. Also, I think he has an outie. Both his parents have innies, this will take some getting used to.
Oh eww... DJ's fell off when I was giving him a sponge bath - and I screamed. It was nasty. He was barely 2 weeks old. Ugh. I can't even think about it. It's making me gag. They told us to wipe it with alcohol on a cotton ball twice a day to dry it out and help it heal faster. I couldn't do it. I made Walt do it.
My dd's fell off pretty early. I was glad to see it go. Babies are cute but that was gross. Did you check to see if it was in whatever he had been wearing?
I decided to get brave and really look (i.e. sideways glance) into the jammies he wore last night. I saw it, my heart skipped 3 beats, and the jammies fell back into the laundry basket after I simultaneously gagged and hands froze. Daddy can get it when he comes home---he was the chief alcohol-applicator because I too was way too grossed out to deal with it.
I am relieved that he won't be choking on it, though----that was a concern of mine since about Day 5.
You just reminded me of another choking hazard for newborns: the bandaids after his first round of shots post-hospital. DJ managed to get hold of one and was chewing/gumming on it when I realized it had gone missing. I nearly passed out.

I guess I am in the minority here the umbilical cord didn't really bother me. I didn't love it but it didn't make me gag either. I was able to clean it with alcohol and touch it and everything I even cut the last tiny piece of hanging skin on Katie's cause I got sick of looking at it (it was dried and off - just hanging by a dead thread don't worry ) On the other hand the soft spot drove me nuts!! I had to touch it when I bathed them but the thought still makes me shudder I couldn't stand seeing their heartbeat in their head the thought of it still creeps me out. I am getting sick right now just thinking of it. :shudder:

DS had two bandaids when he came home from the hospital and I totally thought about him choking on those, but they were so stuck on that I was afraid I'd rip his skin if I took them off. I finally got the one from his itty-bitty IV off, and the nurse at his 2-week appt got the other one off, finally. Phew! But I hadn't thought of more bandaids in the pipeline, thanks for the warning!

Fontinelle (sp?) fa-reaks me out! I've always kinda-sorta wanted a baby, but many many many years went by wondering if I could handle a)the umbilical stump and b)the fontinelle. So far I haven't noticed anything ultra-disturbing on the top of Jimmy's head...I can see his skull, but there's no thumping. My sil the NICU nurse took a gander at the top of his head (I couldn't share the gander with her, I was too afraid of what she might tell me she saw) and she said that it's "not too bad" so I was thrilled to hear it.

I do remember that DD #1's didn't fall off until she was 8 weeks old and DD #2 was 6 weeks. I didn't think they would ever lose them. I'm glad you found Jimmy's and now that it is gone you have his beautiful little belly button to look at!

I remember thinking I would keep my first son's but when I saw that basically it looked like a giant scab, I changed my mind. But belly-buttons are so cute and your son is a doll.

I was by no means thrilled by the umbilical cord, but it didn't bother me enough that I couldn't clean it myself. But I sure didn't want a thing to do with it once if fell off.
Didn't bother me either, although I couldn't wait until it fell off. My kids' fell off fairly soon. Maybe it's because every time I diaper changed them, I'd alcohol the thing to death!
