As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

I'm leaving work early (like, in 10 minutes!) to head down to the beach for the long weekend. I'm excited, except that I have tons to do before I can leave - and I'm supposed to be picking up my friend that's riding with me at 6:00 pm. I wasn't going to leave until 9:00 pm, because, being a thoughtful and considerate sister and all, I was leaving after my sister's birthday dinner (today is her birthday - happy 27, Clayton! ). However, she decided last night that she wanted to go see POTCIII with her friends tonight instead, and would rather do her family dinner tomorrow night. I explained, gently (not really - more like, "Listen, I ain't messing up my beach trip!") to her that this would mean I'd miss her dinner - she didn't seem too upset (I believe her response was, "Whatever, just leave my gift with Mama." ) so now I'm leaving earlier - which means less time to do stuff!
I have to drive 35 minutes to my grandma's house - drop something off to her - then go home and do a quick 20-minute wash job on my car. THEN, I have to finish packing - I couldn't finish it last night, as all my laundry was not done, and my mama did that for me today while I was at work ( for the record, I usually take care of my own dirty clothes, but work was so crazy this week that I didn't have time to finish it, and I'm out of clean pants, so she had mercy on me). I also need to find my beach chair, towels, and a cooler. Then into town to run by the ATM and get gas before picking up my friend. Whew!
Usually I just throw some tshirts and flip flops in a bag and go, but with this being our first trip of the summer, there's always more to do - find the beach equipment, try on last year's bathing suits (I did that last night and got the trauma over early), etc. Also, we're trying to be super cheap this weekend since we go to Vegas in 10 days - so I also need to scrounge around through my parents' fridge/pantry for food I can take with me. (Double ).
Wish my pixies that I get it all done and don't hurt myself/someone else in the process (no worries on the speeding factor though - I drive like a grandma ).

Heehee, seriously! I'm having a wonderful time. Today, as I laid out on the beach, I just let my mind just go into neutral for a couple of hours - it was great and that's exactly why I come down here. When I'm at home, even when I'm relaxing, it's hard to turn my brain off from full speed. Here, I just go into bzzzzz mode. We've done little besides eat, sleep, swim and hang out on the beach. We did play putt-putt tonight and go to a karaoke bar. It's "Bike Week" down here, so we're trying to stay away from the main highways - traffic is heavy.
Looking back at my "get it all done before I leave" list, I got most of that done. What I needed to take to my grandma's could wait until later, so I didn't do that. I also didn't get to my friend's house until 6:30 - but we weren't on a set schedule so it was okay. I did accidently leave my one hang-up outfit hanging on the living room door, but we haven't gone anywhere fancy anyway, so I've been fine without it.
I think I mentioned that I was not terrifically thrilled that the hubby of one of my friend's was tagging along. Actually, he's been fine. I haven't spent a lot of time around him since he started a teaching career last year - I think it's changed him a bit, for the better. I feel a little bad I was hoping he wouldn't come, because we've been cracking each other up all weekend and gotten along really well.
Of course, since there has been zero drama within our little group - that doesn't mean we haven't had drama - starting with, just as we got here Friday night, being witness to a high-speed police chase that ended in the death of the guy running (he was on a motorcycle - we saw him running from the police on his bike, passing by us twice, then saw him crash - scary stuff). Other such dramatic instances included discovering tonight that someone (probably some a$$#@!* kid) snapped off one of my windshield wipers (luckily no rain in forecast until later in the week, after I can get home to have it fixed - I only noticed it today b/c I was cleaning my windsheild). Some of the bike-week ladies' clothing (in the loosest senses of both of those words) has been a sight in itself - I've seen quite enouch thongs 'n cheeks for my lifetime. Also, one of my friends was flirting with a couple of guys on the beach from our 9th floor balcony - only to run into them later on the beach, and discover they were um, in high school. In her defense, she could not see them clearly from 9 floors up. Let's just say, though, that it will be long, long time before she lives THAT one down.
Anyway. We'll head home sometime tomorrow - no particular schedule. Thanks for all the pixies and well wishes. I hope everyone else has had a wonderful weekend. I'd love to hear what you all did this weekend - anyone have any exciting/interesting Memorial Day Weekend stories yet? If not - don't worry, you still have tomorrow to make that happen! Or to avoid it!
