Forums Closed

As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

WL room assigner issue (LOL)
After being put on hold for almost two minutes, I was finally connected to the room assigner at WL. She seemed to be a very pleasant person until I started to give her our requests for the room type we needed to make our stay as perfect as possible. I only had a few requests that I thought were very reasonable given our situation. I requested a non-smoking room that had never been smoked in before, as my DH is very allergic to smoke; but as I smoke, I wanted a room that would allow me to smoke on the balcony. I explained to the room assigner that my DH does not like to walk very much so we needed a room that is within about 50 feet of the elevator but not so close that we could hear people when they were using it. I also explained that even though we had booked and paid for a standard room, we really needed a courtyard view room on the concierge level and it must have a view of the pool, the lake, and be able to view wishes from our balcony. I also explained that as this is our 13th visit to WDW, I expected not to have to pay for any of the upgrades.
As she was listening to my requests, I could tell that she was getting a bit put-off by my very simple and reasonable requests. After I was finished, she proceeded to explain that she thought many of my requests were unreasonable and she did not think she could help me with them. By this time, I was getting very angry and explained to her that if WL was unable to meet these requests, it would ruin our entire vacation.
After a long pause on the phone, it finally dawned on me that no matter what room we get, we will be staying at our favorite resort ever and to top it off, we will be at our favorite place in the world.
As I am sure you have figured out by now, I wrote this with tongue-in-cheek. I just wanted to say that at least for us, no matter what room we get, we always love it and at least so far, we have always been pleased with where we have been assigned. We never make any special room requests and think that the surprise of where we are put is a part of the bigger surprise which is being at WDW.
I hope I did not offend anyone, I know that everyone has a different planning style and many people do have special medical needs that require special room requirements. I just hope that we will all take consideration when calling the room assigners direct to make our requests or it is possible that Disney might take away the privilege of making any special room requests if they see that it is being abused.

Re: WL room assigner issue (LOL)
Too funny! At first I thought you were serious because there have been so many posts by folks looking for the moon and stars in their WDW room choice, both on this board and others. Then I just cracked up. I think the funniest is when someone wants to request the perfect room right down to the exact room number they want!
Like you, I'm pretty happy just being in my happy place, so if the room isn't the exact view I hoped for, or not as close to the elevator as I would like, oh, well, at least it's in Disney and not Jersey! No offense taken here.

On most of our trips we couldn't afford to stay on-site, so when we will be able to again in May it will make it that much more magical and we will be happy just to be there. Enjoy your trip!

I wasn't quite sure if you were trying to be funny to us, or trying to be funny to the room assigner. I'm in a fog right now...

Re: WL room assigner issue (LOL)
Oh holy cow, I was reading that and I was appalled! And then I realized you were kidding. But I swear all I kept thinking was "How does one reply politely to this post?"
I think I'll be chuckling over your post and my own reaction for a couple of days at least! LOL! Thanks for posting that!
That was hysterical!
I'm all about room requests (I made one at the Boardwalk and got it) but mine was really boring. Non-smoking room, EPCOT view hoped for. I know that some people really do have medical requests, but I also know firsthand some people who just insist on all of these detailed requests simply because it's what they want. And then they get angry and blame the CM's if they don't get what they wanted. So to me, that brought back memories of a certain person I know. Which made me laugh even more!
Thank you again for that great laugh at the end of a rotten Monday.

Wow -- you had me going there for a couple of sentences!
Thanks for putting it all into perspective!

Re: WL room assigner issue (LOL)
That's too funny. I'm glad you did that. I do think sometimes people get too into their requests (not like people that really have health issues and need to request fairly specific things, either)
We've always just taken what we were given. And loved every single room, with the exception of one and that really had little to do with the room and all to do with the concierge staff.
