Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

8th Grade Graduation..

Does anyone have an 8th grader "graduating" this year? Our school is having a ceremony at the High School. Some of my friends are having parties. Is this common? My big memory from my 8th grade graduation was that my mom let me wear real pantihose for the first time! It was in our school gym and I think we got to go to Dairy Queen after it.

Re: 8th Grade Graduation..

I don't think we had a graduation ceremony. We did have a dance though.

I remember mine. I got a new dress and my family was all there. It was a special time.

Re: 8th Grade Graduation..

Yes- 8th grade graduation is a big deal here- they have a semi-formal, big picnic etc. Most everyone has some sort of family party and also classmate parties.

Re: 8th Grade Graduation..

My DD is graduating from 8th grade this year. I guess they got fitted for caps/gowns and everything. This was news to me. We never had 8th grade graduation ceremonies when I was in school??

I am probably not going to have a big party. I talked to DD about this. I asked her what she thought and if she wanted one. She said that several of her friends were having parties and she didn't feel the need to have one. We've already received ONE invitation. One of her closest friends is going to a different high school next year because of where she lives than all of her other friends, so she is having a BIG bash. So, I guess we are off the hook this year.

I think this may have come about because there are so many people now who do not graduate that this has become their "graduation"? Although it has filtered to other places - like our school district that has high HS graduation rate.

Re: 8th Grade Graduation..

I teach 8th grade. We do have an Eighth grade "graduation" ceremony - NO caps and gowns, and we do serve refreshments after the "graduation" ceremony in the cafeteria. The kids don't usually have parties - none that I've heard of. Its a nice night to recognize their achievements, but we try not to take it to the level of High School Graduation. We also have an 8th grade dinner dance, where the dress is semi-formal.

My school did a little ceremony but nothing spectacular. Our big thing was the 8th grade dance which I spent the entire time sitting in the bathroom crying at

Re: 8th Grade Graduation..

Let's see...our eighth grade graduation was kind of a big deal. There was a ceremony for parents where they talked and gave out awards. Then, we had a dance with food and had year book signings and stuff as well as a board with all of our baby pictures and stuff. IT was neat. And as a special part of it, we went to Six Flags during the school day and the next day we got to go mini golfing and to the batting cages and stuff across the street. We also got to have a pot luck and do some neat stuff! It was a super fun day. Our ceremony was that night.

Re: 8th Grade Graduation..

Nope, never had this, have had 3 kids leave 8th grade, and nothing more than the usual end of school year ceremony to hand out perfect attendance, sports participation, straight A's awards.
Personally, I think it's a bit silly. Not like it' something they had any control over (gotta go to school)

Re: 8th Grade Graduation..

No 8th grade graduations for me or my DDs. I went to a junior high that was 7-9 anyway. We did have a 9th grade "prom" DDs school just had the usual end of year awards ceremonies and that was it. Like Teresa, I think it's a bit silly, too, and lessens the impact of true graduation.

Re: 8th Grade Graduation..

We don't have an 8th Grade graduation at our school; however, we do have an awards assembly. The 8th graders do get to go to the local 6 Flags on the last day of school.

Re: 8th Grade Graduation..

My DNeice is graduating this year and yes there is a party. I also had parties for both of my kids. Mostly family and a few friends and neighbors. We kept it pretty low key, grilled out and just had a few games set up outside. Of course, our family beleives in any excuse to get together!

Re: 8th Grade Graduation..

We do a big 8th grade graduation here - our school is a K-8, so this is their first and only big change experience going from elementary to high school (joys of living in a rural area.)

The high school graduates on the Friday night before school ends - then the elementary school graduates on the Monday night following, I think.

It's a very big deal - kids are required to dress appropriately - the girls go for semiformal to formal dresses, and the boys all wear dress slacks/khakis with dress shirts and ties. They have the chorus and the band perform, awards are given out, and each student gets a diploma.

They also have lots of special 8th grade activities - a special 8th grade semiformal dance with the 8th graders from our other regional elementary school in prep for the next year when they will form a class at the high school. They also have a class trip the day after graduation, and then a field day on the last day of school.
