As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Where to eat?!
Hi! Seven of my friends and I are going to Walt Disney World the last week of July. We're only going to TWO restaurants during our whole trip (we're teenagers, we don't have the money to eat at a really expensive restaurant every night!! lol), our first day and our last day. Just wanted to know what everyone thought was the best restaurants on property. Thanks!

Re: Where to eat?!
DramaGirl113 - are you looking for a sit down restaurant? Character meal? A restaurant in a park? A buffet?

Re: Where to eat?!
I'm looking for a really nice sit down meal-- meaning nice surroundings, good food, the whole package. Not a buffet or a character meal-- one of the members in my party is terrified of the characters! Thanks!

Re: Where to eat?!
Sounds like you've got a great trip planned. Here're a few great spots to think about :
San Angel Inn. Authentic Mexican in an unbelievably "Disney" setting in the mexican pavillion at Epcot. I'd actually say it's the most Disney of any of the restaurants on property. Prices are reasonable, and the chips and salsa are free
Boma over at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. It's an African inspired buffet at AKL that gets rave reviews. Again, reasonable price and great all you can eat food in a very fun place. And by buffet, remember it's a "Disney" buffet. Which is really more of fantastic sit down meal in a spectacular setting. You won't be disapointed here. Plus AKL is like a little park to explore in and of itself which is cool.
Beaches & Cream at the Yacht & Beach Club is another great spot for Lunch or Dinner. Really, really, really great burgers, dogs, veggie burgers, milkshakes, and the incomparable, GIANT, Kitchen Sink sundae with like eight scoops of ice cream and every topping under the son. Served in a bowl shaped like a...kitchen sink of course Price is right here too and the atmosphere is fun with an old diner thing going, juke box and all. Easy to walk to through the International Gateway in Epcot.
Whispering Canyon Cafe at Wilderness Lodge. Can do an all you can eat option or order individually from the menu. This ones barbecue (chicken, ribs, etc.) located just off the incredible, jaw dropping Wilderness Lodge lobby. Also easy to get to...boat over from Magic Kingdom.
Be sure to check out the menus page at wdwig too... click here...for links to virtually evry restaurant (both counter service and sit down) in the parks and resorts. Has prices too which is great for planning.

Re: Where to eat?!
If you're looking for a couple of top notch, (budget be damned) options, my top three would be:
1. Jiko at Animal Kingdom Lodge
2. Narcoosees at Grand Floridian
3. Artist Point at Wilderness Lodge
And not necessarily in that order. They're all fantastic restaurants, with great atmosphere and top notch food.

Re: Where to eat?!
I think Matt and I are cut out of the same mold - he suggests my all time favorites, but if I had to just pick one, I'd go with Artist Point for ambiance, rustic elegance, food quality, service, and Disney's best dessert creation - AP's Berry Cobbler.

Re: Where to eat?!
Not sure if you're looking for a resort restaurant or a park restaurant.
If you're planning on being in MK, I'd vote for CRT. Beautiful restaurant, and if you time your PS right, you can see the fireworks outside.
Inside Epcot, I'd go for San Angel Inn over at the Mexico pavilion. Great food, wonderful atmosphere.
The only restaurant I've been in and enjoyed at MGM is 50's Prime Time. (Haven't done Brown Derby or Mama Melrose). 50's PT is great fun and great food, but not sure if it's what you are looking for.
AK has only Rainforest for a sit-down. Very nice, but not one I'd choose.
As for the resorts, my favorite is Whispering Canyon Cafe, which might be a little too boisterous. It's a sit-down with awesome food off the menu, but it's loud and crazy! If you want something a bit more intimate, several others here have given you great suggestions!

Re: Where to eat?!
As teenagers - I'm not sure if you'd want the expense, or the sophistication of Artist's Point, California Grill - etc, but you might - it depends on the person. My oldest would love it - my younger teen thinks that Casey's Corner hot dogs are a gourmet delight.
Some more mainstream, but delicious, choices would be 50's Prime Time Cafe - Mom's down home cooking - including green beans! - well done, and a lot of fun, besides!
A yummy, but slightly pricier, alternative would be Le Cellier, if you don't choose to go with San Angel, also good, in Epcot. Yummy steaks, salads, etc, and bread sticks and soup to die for!
You can't go wrong with most of the restaurants in Disney - they all have some little hook to make them special - check out the descriptions in your passporter, or go to wdwig menu page to check both menu offerings and prices.

Re: Where to eat?!
Dramagirl--if you are really into drama then do not miss the Primetime 50's cafe in MGM. The food is excellent ( I recomend the fried chicken--but I am from the south). The great thing about this place is the relationship between CM and Guest. Our "uncle" insisted that my wife and daughter go to wash heir hands and then asked the color the soap. When my daughter did not finsh her meal she was asked to stand up and be fed by "uncle". It was great!

I'd suggest Boma, Le Cellier or California Grill.
