Can someone tell me about Mousefest?

I am going to WDW Dec 2-9 staying at Wilderness Lodge. I have been hearing about Mousefest and it sounds like we may be there during it. What is it? Where is it? How much does it cost? Where do you get ticket? Who can get tickets? Is it worth it? Is it for kids or just adults? Sorry so many questions.

there are no tickets unless u want to go to mvmcp its a gathering of diferent online disney comunities

Well, since many of the events take place within the parks, you'll need your park tickets - and tickets for any hard-ticketed events like the MVMCP. But the Mousefest events generally do not cost a thing.

I had a blast putting faces to names at this past year's Mousefest.

MouseFest is kinda like a Star Trek convention for Disney World nut-jobs like us.

MouseFest is made up of many events called "meets", and there are several different kinds of meet.

There are meal meets, where a group of folks get together for a meal at one of the WDW restaurants. These are casual gatherings that give online friends the chance to sit and gab with each other in person. Most of these are unofficial and are set up by one person saying to another, "Hey, you wanna eat at Chef Mickeys with us on Dec 8?" It goes from there. These will typically cost you the price or your meal (or snack, in the case of a Dole WHip meet at Aloha Isle or a Mickey Bar meet), and if they happen inside a park you will need park admission for the day.

Then there are attractions meets, where a group will gather to ride a ride or see a show or watch a parade. These can be either unofficial or can be published on the official MouseFest list of events. They can be limited to members of a specific web community or open to all. And again, the primary purpose is to provide an opportunity for online friends to spend time together in person, while enjoying a favorite attraction together. These typically cost nothing to attend, but since they take place in the parks, you will need park admission for the day.

There are also activity meets, such as Lou Mongello's WDW trivia meet, and Steve Barrett's Hidden Mickey Tour, where attendees get to have fun with these structured activities. I attended Lou's trivia meet last year and it was big, big fun for all concerned!

There are also Pleasure Island meets and Adventurers Club meets, wherein the attendees imbibe with Kungalooshes and watch the shows in teh PI clubs. These will typically cost nothing beyond the price of PI admission and whatever libations you choose to partake of.

And there are meets designed around paid events like Illuminations or Wishes cruises, or the afternoon tea at Grand Floridian. Since these activities require reservations and have a price tag, they are typically organized by one or two people who will make the ressies and collect the monies from those who sign up.

The biggest event at MouseFest is the MegaMouseMeet, which is held in a convention room at Swan or Dolphin and is open to anyone, no admission charged. The MegaMeet is organized much like a trade show, with webmasters of Disney web sites, authors or Disney books, and owners of Disney-related businesses like DVC brokers and towncar companies all having tables. Attendees get a chance to meet with all of these wonderful people, and there are usually door prizes provided by each sponsor, which are given out to the attendees. Some of the door prize packages are very nice, too.

So if you happen to be in WDW during MouseFest, you can come to as many of as few of the functions as you want. Just check the mousefest.org web site for the complete list, and keep your eyes open here on the Passpporter boards for PP-related functions, and we'll see you there!

I don't see many kids that attended, are they allowed to be around or is it adult only things?

It's pretty much kid-friendly, just like the rest of WDW. There was a table set up specifically for crafts (I think) for kids at the MegaMouseMeet. The only meets I would leave young ones with a babysitter or at one of the children's clubs at the resorts, is the Pleasure Island stuff. Personally, I wouldn't bring anyone younger than 13 or 14 to PI (and even then, it depends on how mature your kid is -- we've run into a few pretty "adult" situations there). I'd also leave the kids behind for fireworks meets if you know fireworks bother them. I was on an Illuminations cruise with a family that had a 2-year-old and it was a lot of fun because the little one was fine with the fireworks and I think she even fell asleep during them, but I could see it being a nightmare being on a boat with a frightened/spooked child!

We recently posted the schedule through 2010. It's centered on the second weekend in December, with the (optional) 4-night cruise on the Disney Wonder starting the Sunday before (first Sunday in December). Scheduled activities at Walt Disney World usually begin on the following Thursday, after the Wonder returns from its cruise, and run through at least the following Monday.

Meeting at this time of year started about 10 years ago, when folks at Internet communities realized that early December was a great time to go (full holiday festivities, Value Season rates). "I'll be there, are you gonna be there?" turned into fully organized community gatherings with multiple meets. Along the way, some of us got the idea of bringing a bunch of these communities together to share the fun, and out of that came MouseFest.

A lot of folks are coming at that time anyway for their regular family vacation. Sometimes, the whole family participates in these meets, and sometimes Mom or Dad leaves the family for a few hours to meet up with the friends they made while planning the vacation. There's so much going on, though, that you can build an entire vacation around MouseFest activities, and the folks who keep coming back every year often do that.

Jennifer and I have been co-chairs of MouseFest since the beginning, and our December PassPorter Holiday Gatherings before then were always scheduled to coincide with other community meets. Since so many people are members of more than one community, we've always liked the idea of making it easy for folks to meet with as many of their communities as possible.

There are kids at almost every meet. In fact, there are even a few meets scheduled JUST for the kids.

Of course, sometimes the adults get talking and the kids wind up bored, but that happens at family gatherings, too.

Last year Tagrel.com had a children's version of the Holiday Gift Game that was attended by about 20 kids and was a huge success, and the Tagrel kids have already made some fast and strong friendships among each other (they're a great bunch of kids!)

I know that lots of Passporters bring their kids to MouseFest, too, so maybe we can schedule a meet or two for the Junior Passporters. Or would they be called Passporters Lite? Would ya belive Mini-Passporters?

How about Passporters Who Are Still Within The Freshness Date?

Ok, I've been checking out the MouseFest website. It says MK on Thursday and Sunday. Which night will be the MVMCP meet?

How soon do you have to purchase your MVMCP tickets? I know that they are available each May but can you wait until let's say October?

You can purchase tickets right up to the time of the event, based upon availability....If they're sold out, they're sold out. The past couple of years, the MVMCP meets have been on the first MK day of MouseFest. However, nothing has been announced for this year as of yet.
