As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Asthma?? Me?? What now??
Does anyone else on the boards have Asthma? I was diagnosed with Asthma yesterday after being rushed to a doctor having my first official Asthma attack. I have never been so scared. I just could not breath.
Besides the crazy amounts of medications I have to take, I now have an inhaler that I must have with me at all times. With my Disney trip only 59 short days away, I am not exactly sure how I am supposed to keep up with this inhaler in the parks without carting a bag around with me. Any suggestions?? Should I also have something with me that lets someone know I am Asthmatic in case something happens?
I know that these are probably dumb questions, but my mind has been racing since I have been trying to take all of this in. I am worried I am going to have to miss out on all my favorite rides. That really stinks. I have really been looking forward to my trip and now I am just so bummed.
Anyway, sorry for the rambling. I would really appreciate any advice that anyone has to offer.

Re: Asthma?? Me?? What now??
Yup all my life :-) Just put the inhaler in your fanny pack it will be fine and if your on some kind of steriod get a medic alert bracelet to wear and be sure to pay heed to your body. Steriods SUCK in the worst way.
Not sure why you would miss out on ANYthing??? Sure has not slowed down me or anyone in my family. Millions of folks have asthma and live normal happy healthy lives. The best advice I can give you is to stay in shape and drink lots of water.
Good luck and keep your chin up it will be ok *hug*

Re: Asthma?? Me?? What now??
I have asthama I keep my inhaler with me at all times, I should wear a medical bracelet or at least a note in my bag so people can know if i should have a problem but I don't. I ride everything at the parks and as long as i have my inhaler with me if there is a problem i have it right there but i haven't had any problems from the rides.
It will be ok and just make sure if your travelling with someone they know where to find your inhaler just in case!

Re: Asthma?? Me?? What now??
Do the doctors know what triggered your asthma? If so, I would try to steer clear of any possible asthma triggers if at all possible. For me, the special effects fog at Universal Studios can set off an asthma attack. If you keep your inhaler in your fanny pack and use it at the first sign that you might have any trouble breathing, then you should be fine. My doctor also gives me a prescription for Prednisone to have with me anytime I go on vacation. That way if I start getting sick and going into a bad asthma spiral, I can take that to get the inflammation down in my lungs. If you aren't already on Prednisone, you might want to ask your doctor about prescribing to have with you just in case. Hope you have a great time on your trip!

Re: Asthma?? Me?? What now??
Sorry to hear that!! Something probably did trigger your asthma-- have you ever had an allergy test-- you may want to look into it. My mom was diagnosed with asthma in her '30s -- it was triggered by our cat which I begged for, and she happened to be allergic to.
As for us, my grandmother had asthma, and my mother and my son (Aidan, 5yo) all have asthma (it skipped me). You don't need to miss anything at Disney-- my son doesn't. I keep his inhaler (as well as an aerochamber that he uses with the inhaler-- a plastic tube that the inhaler fits into to hold the medicine so he can take his time inhaling it). I just keep it in my backpack. To me its nothing becuase we used to have to carry a nebulizer around (heavy). He takes one inhaler twice a day (Flovent-- his "maintenance" medication), and another as needed (Albuterol-- that's his "rescue" medication). He doesn't do a whole lot of thrill rides, but has done Splash, and BTMR-- and his asthma was never an issue. We've always been there when it was hot too-- and I'm a little on the "commando" side-- and he's been fine. Don't worry!!!

Re: Asthma?? Me?? What now??
Don't worry! Stress can also trigger an attack. I have had asthma all my life also and it got worse after I had kids. I now have my nuebulizer to take with me down to the World along with my inhaler. Before I go my doctor will be giving me a prescript. for steroids. Just in case. If you can handle drinking coffee, try a cup a day. It helps open up the broconical tubes and helps you breathe. I have never worn a med. bracelet before. Then again everyone who will be with me knows I have it and what I need. Including my DD's (ages 6 and 8). Don't let it stop you from having fun!!! If you feel it coming on, stop drinking anything cold (it freezes your bron. tubes) try to drink a cup of coffee (believe me this works) and use your inhaler. If you do not like coffee, there is a tea out called Breathe Easy or Breathe Right (same tea depends on manufactor) you can buy it at GNC. It costs about $4.50 for 18packs. It tastes good but you do have to drink it hot. Good Luck and Have a Blast!!!!!!

Re: Asthma?? Me?? What now??
My son has asthma and he does fine. Do you also have allergies? If so, this may have triggered the asthma. If they gave you medicine for allergies, this will help keep you from having reaccuring attacks. If you don't have allergies just stick the inhaler in your fanny pack or even your pocket and go on with your life. I have found with my son that I prefer the treatments through the machine rather than the inhaler because it works better in my opinion.
I have found that if you don't dwell on it then you do so much better.
