As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Henry Ford Museum: Disney Land Exhibit
I live in Michigan and also full blooded members of this place. I am looking at their magazine that just came.
They will be opening up the Disneyland Exhibit on Friday, September 23. They will also be having a preview party that we just cannot afford to go to. At $150 a person, I'm like, uh, I wish.
Also, they will be selling a book called "Behind The Magic-50Years of Disneyland". One of the authors live and works at the UM in Ann Arbor. They are going to have a book signing by both authors on November 11. I may sneak out there to get mine signed. I was told this book can be bought on line through their website.
We have our tickets for the exhibit on September 25. Can't wait to see it.
I am keeping my Henry Ford magazine because it has a lot of trivia and information on Disneyland.
Had to share the information. Going to be a fun autumn.

Jennifer and I are members, too. The exhibit runs through January 1. Check The Henry Ford for all the details.
There was some talk a while back of having a PassPorter meet while the exhibit is there. Anyone want to ressurect that idea? |

We will be there Sunday, September 25 at 1PM. We have our timed tickets. If anyone wants to meet we will be there around just after noon.
So, Dave? Going to do the Halloween gig too? This will be our third year going and love it every time.

This is the reason why we do our daughters birthday party the weekend after Labor Day, everyone is too busy afterwards. This is a birthday thing for her.
We are doing the Halloween gig at Greenfield at the end of October. Then the holiday stuff in November and in December. After that we are done until spring. I don't drive during winter. The last time I did I got caught up in a snow squal and almost ended up in a ditch. No thank you.

Beth? What time will you be there? We are timed for 7PM. We are going to be there about an hour before. Our daughter is going to be Tinker Bell. I always dress as McGonagals sister, complete with the hat. I use my graduation gown every time. Hope to see you there. I think this is one of the funnest times to do the village. I just read Dave's report on Henry Ford Museum, Disneyland 50 years. I wanted to update everyone that if you did preorder tickets like we did for last weekend, it did not open and will not open until September 30th. I was not happy because this was suppose to be a birthday present from us to her. O well. I contacted HFM last week and told them that all I wanted from them was a guarantee that my tickets would be refunded because on the tickets themselves it gives a whole host of reasons you can't get your money back. The assistant manager said because the construction crew who was suppose to put it together and had other obligations, would have it up and running this weekend. So, with that in mind, if you had timed tickets for this week call HFM and they will reschedule. This weekend is Farmers Day at the village. We will be going Sunday to reschedule our tickets. We plan on rescheduling for the Holiday Lighting, November 21, members only that night. Its also a zoo and may reconsider this one. If anyone is interested in a meet and yes Dave, I'm jealous you got to see it early. I am also surprised you didn't do the dinner. That would have been awesome to rub elbows. Thanks Dave for a great article. I'm glad I was able to wet your appetite for this exhibit.

We'll be going in December for my birthday. I am very excited. I've been a life long visitor. I still call it Greenfield Village. Calling it THE Henry Ford seems too high horse for me!
We did the Halloween thing last year and it scared the beejeesus out of my then 4 1/2 year old. The pirates near the Swanee River Boat jumped out at her. The guy who looked like Gilbert Gotfried whose head was projected onto the side of the Ford Factory Exhibit started talking to her. And lets not even talk about that 'Come To Life' Scarcrow near the covered bridge!
We're doing MNSSHP instead!!

That scarecrow was way too cool for me. My 7 year old then loved it. But it wasn't last year they had that scarecrow, it was two years ago and last year I thought it was way too lame. If your child scares too easily? Then I say don't take them to the village. Otherwise, take the ones who love a good thrill. Its the guy inside the carasoul that got me. I can't wait to see what the village has in store for us this year. We also do all the holiday stuff inside the HF as well.
I also agree, THE Henry Ford sucks.

I know what you mean. Still, the old web address - http://www.hfmgv.org was a little ridiculous - just a little less ridiculous than typing henryfordmuseumgreenfieldvillage. Nobody used those initials in real life, so if you had to guess at the URL you had your work cut out for you.
I feel better about "The Henry Ford" when I think about Walt Disney World vs. "Disneyland Resort." Folks still forget that "Disneyland Resort" includes DCA, Downtown Disney and three hotels. Now that it's Henry Ford Museum, Greenfield Village, IMAX theater, The Rouge Factory Tour, Benson Ford Research Center... You need something a bit more all-inclusive, and keeping "Ford" in the name is probably a good idea. Meantime, calling it "Henry Ford World" probably would have been a bit too much.  |
