Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Rehobeth Beach

I read Crystal's and Dina's post about Rehoboth Beach Delaware and thought, "what a Small World, we might have been there the same time some year and not even known it!"

We go every year, possibly more than once a summer even if just for the day. We HAVE to go to Gus n Gus on the boardwalk for either a cheesesteak, fried chicken, sausauge and peppers, gyro or just a fried hot dog. Then we go next door to Thrashers for beach fries. Mmmm.

I'm posting a photo from last year of the Grace and Rachel with my friend Nancy and her daughter Sara, all eating their Gus n Gus and Thrashers. The seagulls wait in anticipation for a bite. After munching, we head down to the rides at Funland for a whirl on the teacups and bumper cars and a billion games of Skeeball for some cheezy stuffed animals.

Anyone else love Rehoboth Beach as much as we do?

Re: Rehobeth Beach

I Rehoboth Beach!!!!! I went with my parents every weekend of every summer from when I was about 8 years old (until I was about 16, and no longer wanted to spend weekends with my parents hehehe!!). When I was in college, Joe and I started going again and staying with my parents. When we started going we had a pop-up tent in the Delaware Seashore State Park, and my parents would take me to the boardwalk every Saturday night. They upgraded to a small trailer, then a mobile home at a resort in Longneck (15 minutes from Downtown Rehoboth). 2 years ago my dad retired from the Philadelphia police department and they built a house on the bay of Rehoboth-- they live there now. Usually we do one day of the weekend at the beach in Rehoboth, and one on my dad's boat. We always try to take the kids to the boardwalk on Saturday night!! We love the outlets when it rains, and I do all my shopping there!!!! Joe didn't like Rehoboth, at first, because he was used to the Jersey Shore, but now, he loves it as much as I do, and we always say, if we win the powerball we're buying a house right in the downtown area of Rehoboth, near the boardwalk. Thrashers fries are my favorite (with vinegar!!). Our favorite restaurant, right now, is the Big Fish Grill. My dad loves DogFish Head. When I was in college, Joe and I spent alot of nights in Dewey, and I still love The Rusty Rudder and Crabbers'Cove restaurants. And, we always take one trip each summer to Ocean City Maryland for Nick Idonis' House of Ribs (we've never found Ribs anywhere that can compare to Nick Idonis!!). Next time you're going, Joan let me know!!!! We'll be there again next weekend! We got back home Sunday night, and every morning when Aidan wakes up, he asks me how many days we have left until we go back hehehe!! We're down to 3, so he's happy! Aidan calls it Fishtown (which we laugh about, becuase my grandmother lives in the actual Fishtown in Phila-- its not so nice), and he says its the most beautiful place in the world!! I asked him if Rehoboth (AKA Fishtown) was more beautiful than Disney World, and he said "Oh yes!!!" Kind of shocked me-- nothing will ever be as good as Disney to me hehehe!!!

Re: Rehobeth Beach

I'll have to check my calendar to see when we can go to the beach again and met up with you.

I know where Longneck is too! How about Nik-a-boli's? We love eating there. Way before I met Pat, I used belong to a beach house in Bethany, and we'd go out in Dewey and Rehoboth, drinking and dancing all hours. Then we'd eat at Nik-a-boli's or what ever else was open. When we stay for a week, my sister and her husband still go on Monday nights to the Bottle and Cork to hear the Greaseband (oldies music).

Pat's neice has a house on Newcastle, within walking distance to the boardwalk. It is her mother in laws house, and it's been in the family for 60 years. We always say when WE win the lottery we're getting one too.

We eat at Nick Idoni's in Ocean City, but we get it as take out because the wait is too long. I just call in my order and pick it up and take it back to the house.

There's a story in Fenwick Island called the Country Store, and they have fudge and cheese spreads that we load up on before we come home.

We love Disney, but Rehoboth has a special place in our hearts. Plus it's only two hours away!

Re: Rehobeth Beach

I've never eaten at Nik-a-boli's, but we'll have to try that!!! WE also used to like the Crab Barn alot, but haven't done it in a while. In the winter I get cravings for Grotto's. Joe and I used to love Bottle and Cork!!!! The first campground we stayed at was in Fenwick Island. Our campsite had some mud in it though, and our car got stuck, so after that we started doing Delaware Seashore State Park (cement city!!) Nick Idonis definitely does have long waits. We try to do that if we're ever down during the week. The margueritas in mason jars usually help me pass the time though!!!

Re: Rehobeth Beach

We used to always go to Wildwood or Ocean City, Maryland but as we had our own kids we wanted some where a little better so we decided to try Rehoboth. This is only our 3rd year going but we really like it. We always have to hit Gus&Gus, Thrasher's, Grotto, get some taffy. We always make one trek down to Nick's for the ribs and DH has to get one of those tacky tshirts DH likes DogFishHead - they even had some of their brew in the hotel minibar! We stay at the Boardwalk Plaza - it is an awesome hotel. The food there is really good, too!! We always stop on the way to Rehoboth at the Christiana Mall - its a good mid point to get out walk around and get lunch. While at the mall, we always visit the Build a bear workshop and make one to remember our trip. I like the ambiance in Rehoboth - all the cute little shops and restaurants. We looked at buying a house over on Maryland or Olive Ave - there are some gorgeous ones over there for sure. Decided I liked better staying at the hotel and being pampered - for now.
Here's a few pictures from our trip

Jeanette with her Build a Bear - Elmo

Hotel Bedroom - there is also a sitting room with a balcony

The view of the beach from our Balcony

The blue umbrella in the middle was our spot on the beach

Looking up the boardwalk from our balcony

Hey Joan - I think we sat on the same bench to eat our Gus&Gus Chicken and Thrasher's fries(with vinegar - of course - anything less would be unamerican) then went down the boards to funland and played skeeball!! Afterwards, we went back to the hotel and the kids had some pretzels with easy cheese - "a vacay staple" as I have learned!!

Re: Rehobeth Beach

You have to go into Ryan's Gems and Junk on the boardwalk and ask if Lauren is working. She's our niece and she works there in the summer, and her dad did too back in the late 70's when he was in college.

I need a day at Poodle Beach! <sigh>

Dina,

I actually live in Fishtown. The papers keep on trying to promote it as the next place that's due to experience re-gentrification. Yah, right. Believe it when I see it.

Maybe next summer I'll head down to Rehobeth for a weekend. Hmmmm

Ooooh sorry-- I hope I didn't offend you, I didn't know that. Actually, I've heard alot about it coming back!! My grandmother's been there since I was a kid, so I always thing of it as it was years ago. But, your right, its actually probably a great place to buy real estate right now, because they are working on bringing it back. I'm still sorry I said that though.

Re: Rehobeth Beach

Dina,

You didn't offend me. It's a matter of you get what you pay for. The reason I live there is that it is incredibly cheap. It's what I can afford. It ain't pretty, but if I lived in Center City or University City I'd not be able to take my trips to Walt Disney World and France in 2006. I'm the first to admit that Fishtown is a dump. Trust me, my feathers weren't ruffled in the least.
