As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

An afternoon in the park
Hey all! I'm down South for work, so when I got done with my last meeting today I headed straight towards my favorite place! It was pretty darned crowded, being Easter week. The lines were all long, so I didn't go on any attractions...except the new and improved Tiki Room! What a great restoration. The tiki gods are all drumming, the totems are all looking and chanting, and the glee club looks great! Feathers bright and shiny, and it was a full house. And it was even better because I got to enjoy a Dole Whip while watching!
Made a quick stop at a pin cart...just couldn't resist! Found a couple of pins for my boyfriend, but I resisted getting any for myself.
Anyway, the key point of this trip was to pick up some golden ears...got em! They are EVERYWHERE, and will be through the whole 18 months, according to the cast member I spoke with. Of course, I had to get them at the Mad Hatter in Fantasyland, and get them embroidered. Well...I'm a little compulsive when it comes to shopping in Disneyland, so I couldn't stop with just the ears. I browsed through the stores in New Orleans' Square, then headed to Tommorowland for my favorite lunch, the cheese ravioli kid's meal at Red Rockett's Pizza Port. I sat and did some people watching, and discovered PUSH the talking, walking garbage can. That was fun.
Then I checked out the shops in Tomorrowland, and saw the new "Retro" line...so gosh darned cool! I bought a pair of Disneyland Bingo cards, which are just like those travel Bingo cards...little doors that you close up with things like "Palm Tree", "Monorail", and such for the bingo items. I also bought really cute magnets, and then decided it was time to head down Main Street and back to the hotel.
Well, I got sidetracked...Mickey was climbing the Matterhorn! Wow, I haven't seen that in so many years! I watched with one of the Cast Members from the first aid station. She was really nice, and she told me that the fireworks show is going to be really fantastic!!! She said just wait to see how much Tink will be the star of the show, and that it will take place all the way down Main Street.
Okay, finally shopping down Main Street. I bought a retro themed charm bracelet, and a pair of Tiki Room hawaiian shirts (one for me and one for my dear boyfriend).
One last look at the Castle, lit beautifully as the sun began to set. Then it was through the turnstiles (had to get my handstamp, even though I'm an annual passholder, because the smell always reminds me of Disneyland!)
It was a great few hours, and it went by too quickly! Looking forward to my next trip!!!

Nope, white. That way they don't have to change the thread or change sewing machines when they embroider the black ears or the other color ears...Oh, and I discovered that you can only get the Gold ears in Disneyland...I looked for them in DCA and at World of Disney, not for sale there!

Re: An afternoon in the park
We were there last September and I didn't see any silver ears at WDW. How do you get them? Do you have to be there or can you call CS in WDW to get them? They look awesome. We will be in DS in 2006. Still a go for the trip.
Thanks for the gold ear tip.

Re: An afternoon in the park
My guess is that the gold ears won't be available in WDW, only Disneyland...but I'll find out for sure in about 6 weeks when I arrive at WDW!
Update on that, I just checked the Laughingplace.com website and they have WDW golden ears for sale. The difference is that they say Walt Disneyworld on the patch on the front instead of Disneyland Resort. I think you really should have the Disneyland ones, though. It's their birthday, not WDW's!
I'm sure you could call Disneyland and order some ears...don't think they would personalize them for you, though. Or you can order the ears through the Laughingplace.com website. They cost $10 in the park.

Re: An afternoon in the park
We will be in Disney Land in 2006. But I thought that the gold and silver were only available in WDW. Guess I am confused. We will get both once there. I know the celebration will continue until the new year 2007. We will be there for Xmas 2006. After taking 2 weeks off during a school month and getting flack for it, decided not to this go round. Thanks for the heads up on the gold ears. Now I want a pair.

The 50th celebration only last for 18 months so that would take it to November 2006.
I don't mean to get off topic but, did your kids catch up on their school work or do it before you left? If so you should not have gotten any flack from the school. Don't ever let the school dictate when your family takes a vacation, they are not that powerful. There is always a way to work around family vacations during school time. I should know I work for our school district and families including mine always take time off during school time.
If you kids teacher do not cooperate with giving your kids the school work before you leave or do not let them make up the work when they come back, you can request that your kids be put on independent study for the time you are gone. If they tell you they can't do that they are lying to you.
The reasons schools give parents flack for taking their kids out of school for vactions is because they lose ADA money (Average Daily Attendance). But if your kids are put on independent study the school doesn't lose any money.
Where there is a will there is always a way.

Yep, the celebration officially ends 11/04/06 (of course, if it's a HUGE success, like what happened when the MSEP left, they may extend it)
