Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Trip Report 7/22-23

Trip Report
We were at DLR on July 22nd & 23rd and really enjoyed ourselves. We had not been there since 1999 and my DH & I had not been to DCA at all. DD was able to visit DCA while visiting her grandparents.

We stayed at the Carousel Inn across the street from DLR and arrived early to be able to hit the parks. We checked in, but the room was not available (we anticipated this), and we were allowed to park in the hotel lot. We got anything we needed to go into the parks and headed over there. We went to HM first and then onto POC. Both lines were short and had a minimal wait (5 to 10 min). After that we wandered around and then headed toward BTM, forgetting that it was closed. Got pics of the train sitting in the station and two cast members at the entrance. One did say they hope it to be open again in a couple weeks.
We had gotten a FP for Indiana Jones Ride and after doing POC & HM, DH & I went on that. We went into the FP entrance and followed it around. At one point DH thought it was doubling back, so we jumped over the rope, (no one around) and started to follow that. Wrong Answer!! This was the exit path, so we headed back and jumped Back over the rope to continue on our way. We got to one point and they were stopping people and sending them up in groups. While waiting here, the lights came on and the ride broke down. They announced that we could wait, but it could be 10 min or 60 min. We decided to wait it out and finally got on.

We decided to head over to DCA and see that. We did the single rider on Soaring over CA and all got on at the same time. DD & DH were closer to each other than to me. We all really enjoyed that. DD said it was better than the last time she had ridden. Headed to Paradise Pier so DH could do CA Screamin'. Got FP for him & I and then went to the Sun Wheel. We all got into a swinging car. We were surprised it was so short of a ride (1 revolution once all cars filled). DH & I then did CS and it wasn't too bad, a little jerky in some spots. Since it was starting to get warm, we decided to see if we could get into our room and take a rest.

The rooms were very nice and exceptionally clean. Two queen sized beds with a separate dressing area from the beds & shower areas. Dressing area had a skylight in it but no curtain to separate from the bed area. We had no one above or below us. The parking area was directly below us. They had a continental breakfast from 7 to 9 am. This had breads for toast, bagels, muffins, fruit and cereals. Juice, milk, coffee & tea to drink. DH thought it was great.

Went to DTD and liked the way it is set up a bit better than DTD at WDW. I liked that they had street performers at different intervals in the area. As you got out of hearing range for one, you were coming into hearing range of another, so they just barely overlapped. All the performers, save one, were pleasing to listen too.

On Friday, we were back in the park early. We did POC and then went to do the Matterhorn. Had a short wait there and decided to do MTWR (Mr Toad's Wild Ride). Again a short wait. We hadn't done Roger Rabbit's Cartoon Spin, so headed to do that. DH loved that one. We were surprised at how empty the park was at 9:15am. But did enjoy it. We took a break and then headed back to the park in the early evening. Went to the Disney Gallery, which had a special exhibit for the HM Movie & HM. Went to DTD again and then came back to do Matterhorn at night.

We enjoyed our whole trip and were only a little disappointed in some of the changes made to DL. Tomorrowland has the most changes and with the way it is now laid out, there is an area in Tomorrowland that sees little traffic at all.

All in all we had a great time. Can't wait until we can go again (Maybe in another 5 years???)

I'm glad you had a good time. Your next trip you should try to stay a little longer so you don't have to rush around so much. We need at least a week to do everything we want to do.

Re: Trip Report 7/22-23

I think I'm going to stop reading TRs! They make me want to do things! Earlier today I read 8 days in June and when I was done, I wanted to go on a Cruise. Something I've never done. Now I read your TR and want to go to DL! Something else I've never done!

I can only imagine what you are talking about...the layout and all is something I hope to experience one day. The rides sound interesting...Soaring over CA...CA Screamin.

Question for you: How does HM and POC compare to WDW? Are they the same or different?

Thanks for sharing your vacation with us. It sounds like you had a wonderful time!
