As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Meet and Greet
Where'd you meet your s.o.? I believe there've been threads of this nature in the past, but reading Amy's background info on how she met her DH got me wondering about everyone else. Besides, it's always fun to share, right!
Moi, I met my DF in the local music circuit. I was young, wiley, and into musicians...and the fact that DF was in a band AND paid his bills as a sound engineer was very appealing--and still is (most area musicians work in restaurants...not that there's anything wrong with that, it's just that DF was the real-deal.) Plus, he had that look that said he'd never hurt me . Now he's marrying me, and we'll live happily ever after.
So what's your story d'amour?

Re: Meet and Greet
Met my wife at a party when we were sophomores in high school. She was only one person from our rival school in attendance and we got "matched" by the girl hosting the party. Started dating 2 weeks later and my mom drove on our first date because neither of us had our driver's licenses yet! Went "steady" all through high school and college without ever breaking up and got married the year after we graduated from college.
Signed,
Together since we were 15

Re: Meet and Greet
Thanks to AOL! We met in the new members chat room, discovered with a few minutes that we lived 20 minutes apart, spoke on the phone that night for 5 hours, first date the next night, got engaged 6 weeks later! We're been together for 7.5 years and married for just over 6.
It never ceases to amaze me the blessings the internet has brought to my life - my DH, the agency we are adopting our baby through, such amazing friends and all of you!

Re: Meet and Greet
Another internet hook-up here. I met Alex in an MSN chatroom called Mars Mission. It was a trivia game room with a host. We started talking on the phone, met in person and we've been IRL dating for 3.5 years.

Re: Meet and Greet
Harley and I met in college at the BSU. I actually didn't like him at all.....thought he was completely stuck on himself.....but we ended up talking about our lives one night at a party my roommate hosted for over four hours( ) and I determined that he was just EXTREMELY shy. We spent most of our waking/out of class hours together for the next two years. We got married 2 years and 6 months after we met!

Re: Meet and Greet
I met my husband at a resort hotel that we both worked at. He worked in the Maintenance Dept. and I was the Purchasing Secretary. My office didn't have any heat, and he ended up with the job of running heat to our office. So you could say that he heated me up and has been for over 20 years!

Re: Meet and Greet
I met DH in a bar. We didn't hit it off at first, he thought I was stupid because of the guy I was dating at the time and I thought he was a total dork. Since we both liked the same local bands and bars we had some friends in common and would see each other all the time. We became friends and a year after we met he asked me out to dinner because a friend of ours told him too. It seems she figured out we were perfect for each other before we did. six months after the first date we were living together and four months after that we were engaged. The band that was playing at the bar the night we met was the same band we had play at our wedding.

Re: Meet and Greet
My husband pulled up next to me at the Jack in the Box stoplight, stuck his head out the window(my window was opened) said "hi! I love you and someday I am going to marry you". My response was "YOURE A FREAK". I was driving out to the base to go to work, he was driving back to the base where he was stationed and I thought he was stalking me.
He eventually made me realize that he was true to his word. We married 10 months later. I had just turned 18 and he was almost 22 when we got married.
Weve been married for 15 1/2 years.

Re: Meet and Greet
Met my DH at a party that my cousin was having for his fiancee. Her brother invited a bunch of his high school buddies and I was introduced to them. Talked to 2 of them for over an hour. When I was leaving, my cousin's fiancee wanted to know which guy would I like to have my phone number. I couldn't decide so we flipped a coin. That was 17 years ago next month and we've been married for 12.

We met in a shopping centre blowing up balloons. Do I win a prize for the most bizarre way of meeting your future DH?

Re: Meet and Greet
<font color="purple">Ok, everyone settle in for sort of a long story...
I was working as a receptionist in St. Louis and John was a student in Springfield (about 190 miles apart). I had gone out to lunch and came back to someone sitting at my desk making herself cozy. I thought, "Did I get fired over lunch and no one told me??" Turns out that she used to have the job before me and she was a student at SMSU in Springfield, just back in St. Louis visiting family over Xmas. We got talking and became friends. I was reorganizing the file system at work and asked if she wanted to help me one night after work since she knew the files. It was about 10pm and she calls her friends at the dorm from our conference room and sticks it on speaker. After a few minutes, she walks out of the room with her 2 friends just hanging on the phone still (John and another friend). So I just said "uh...she just walked out...don't know who you are but, she's gone." After we get finished for the night, I go back to her house and start talking to John online on her for a bit. I finally decide to leave since I still have an hour drive to get to my house. I get his AIM ID and tell him I'll talk to him later.
Cut to about 2 weeks later. She goes back to school and I talk to both her and John on the phone and the . John and I have been talking nightly via AIM. When I would call her at school (she lived in the same dorm as John about 2 doors down)she would walk to her room and toss him the phone if there was something or someone in his room. So I spent A LOT of time talking to him. I planned to visit her Superbowl weekend, but the weather was real bad in Springfield (blizzard conditions). So I put it off like 2 weekends. In the meantime, John and I decided to play a joke on her. We were going to "act" like we were dating and that I was really coming to see him and not her. We had even decided that I would stay in his dorm room instead of hers (on the couch. they had a living room, small kitchen and 2 bedrooms in these dorms.) Well, I got down there and through the course of the weeknend, we found out that the joke was on us. We just clicked instantly in person.
Well, that was that...and we will be together 4 years in February, with plans of getting married when we can afford it.
Whoo...told ya it was a long story And that was the short version of it...

Re: Meet and Greet
Yep, we've done this thread from time to time and it is enjoyable to read how others met. Me?
I was a police officer parked on a side road just watching traffic drive drive by on the town's Main St one Saturday. A fellow I went to high school with walked by with his sister, and stopped to say hi and introduced her to me. As they walked away I thought "I've got to get to know her" (or thoughts like that ) And I did get to know her. Dated for a year and have been married for 23.5 years (or so).

Re: Meet and Greet
DH and I worked together when we started dating (he has since left to go to another company). It was a little awkward at first, but I wasn't going to pursue it if I didn't think it wasn't going to work out (that "fishing in the company pool" thing). We were engaged 14 mos. later, and have now been married for over 7 years.

Re: Meet and Greet
I don't ever remember meeting DH. Our parents knew each other from work. We would see each other from time to time growing up. Go forward a few years and we started talking whenever we saw each other. Had one date in the fall and that was that. Later that winter he started calling every Sun. I, of course, was never home. Finally I was and we started going out. Dated for over a year. Been married for 28 years.
