Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Re: Branson MO

Hi Kim!

We live about 2 1/2 hours from Branson. If you plan a visit soon, you might like to check into Silver Dollar City's evening Christmas events. Branson is an outlet mecca, so you might like to save some time and money for that. We stayed at a lovely place called the Grand Victorian Hotel. Lots of information but it's a start!

Re: Branson MO

We went a few years back and I would love to go again. We went to Silver dollar City, it was nice and I've heard they have expanded since then. We were there around Thanksgiving so they were decked out for the holidays, and some stuff is only open in the summer. We also went to the Dixie Stampede. It is a dinner show and was very good.

Re: Branson MO

We were there in August and did only SDC and Celebration City, as we were on a tight budget. You've reminded me I have a TR started here that I totally forgot about! I'm such a dork! I'd love to go at Christmas time. We just got some info in the mail from SDC about all the fun things they have coming up.

Re: Branson MO

<font color="purple">Kim, I live in Springfield (about 30 minutes away).

I would definitly do Silver Dollar City, the Christmas festival is the best one of the year (and it just started yesterday)! Very family friendly, focuses on the meaning of xmas, not the commercialism. Food is excellent there too.

There are also a couple of big light displays in town. One is at the Shepards of the Hills and they charge by the person. I think it is like $7/person, kind of steep. There is another one that is done by the city on Bee Creek Road. This is a huge set-up and a big crowd pleaser. It use to be donations only, but I have heard that they started to charge by the car to help support it.

There are 2 main outlet malls, one of which contains a Disney Catalog Outlet Store (always a plus...) That is in the Tanger Outlet Mall right off the main drag, Hwy 76. This is not the one that is commonly refered to as the Red Roof Mall.

Then there are all kinds of touristy type shops. Lots of minigolf and go-kart tracks. There is also an IMAX theater here.

I won't name all the shows and theaters there because we will be in this post forever. But most of them have started their Christmas shows already. If you would like the Rockettes, they are here at the Grand Palace (I think). This is the final year that they will be in Branson. The Chinese Acrobats are really good!

If you wanted to come up to Springfield, there is Bass Pro Outdoor World. This is the the largest sporting good shop in the country. They call it the Granddaddy of all sporting good shops. Even if you are not into the sporting goods, it is neat to walk around in. There are all kinds of animal displays and whatnot. There is even a turtle pond inside the store. I can spend hours watching the turtles. Right next store to Bass Pro is the Wonders of Wildlife Museum. This is very cool, but the price of admission is a bit steep.

If you want to know anything else, feel free to let me know or email me. Hope this helps!!!

Thanks Guys for all your help. It finally looks like I may see other states for a change instead of just the Mouse.

Re: Branson MO

We're going to be there for Thanksgiving also! It's one of my favorite times to go. They usually have most of the sales going on before Black Friday...so we try to shop first and then hang out later. Don't expect to really go anywhere fast that day. It's really crazy but if you know what to expect it's not so bad. There really isn't anything to do on the actually holiday....restaurants are open but no stores. We do SDC that day...open from 4pm to 10pm. Weather is iffy....sometimes pretty nippy and sometimes kind of balmy.

Hope you have a fun holiday!

Re: Branson MO

If you have not scheduled a place to stay yet I would like to suggest White Wing Resort http://www.whitewingresortbranson.com/

They are reasonable and you get get a 1 bedroom and 2 bedroom suites. It is simple so that is why the prices are so low. You will have a great view of Table Rock Lake and it is not in the middle of all the hustle and bustle of the main drag in Branson. It is very close to Silver Dollar City. My family has stayed at this place for years (we live in St. Louis, MO). some other ideas for fun:

Take a tour of the Dam
Silver Dollar City
Dixie Stampede (dinner show)
Sheperd of the Hills

Remember the traffic on the main drag is horrible. You will literally sit forever. Get a map from the hotel and it will show lots of backroads you can take to get to where you are wanting to be.

There is a lot of Mini golf Available and indoor arcades all down the strip. Some good resturants are the International Waffle House and Mesquite Charlies

Here is a helpful website as well http://www.branson.net/attractions.htm

Have fun!

Re: Branson MO

It is strange that you should suggest the whitewings resort.
I called them but they would not take a check in on Thanksgiving.

We visited the Wildlife Museum! We live near Chicago so our kids have done the museum thing, but this was the coolest interactive animal musuem we've been too. Our kids still talk about it. The Bass Pro Shop was cool too!
