As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

eating at wdw or dl with weight watchers
does anyone have any suggestions or menu recommendations for someone on weight watchers? I didn't know if there was a website that listed points for the different offerings on the menus for the parks. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Re: eating at wdw or dl with weight watchers
Sorry this is long :
I will be going in Nov-Dec and I plan on trying to stay within points, but I know that Tonga Toast awaits .
My suggestion to you would be to have a salad/dressing on the side at lunch and dinner, split a entree with a dinning companion or I think I saw else where on the boards that Disney is easy going about who orders "kid meals". Another thing to consider is having a salad and a nice appitizer. Besides I know that I love desserts, and Disney has plenty of them, and after all this is my vacation.
At breakfast eat what you would at home, the point counts for eggs and bacon/sauages is still the same. Pack your WW books and review and write down everything you eat at the end of the day, even if you go over your points your will still be in the habit of recording what you eat.
Also remember this is your vacation, and you can go on vacation and still loose weight, stay the same or gain, but don't loose weight/stay the same and not enjoy the vacation (advise form a WW leader at a meeting).
HTH

Re: eating at wdw or dl with weight watchers
All that walking has to be worth a few treats? Do you have a book or something that says you can have X more points per X minutes spent walking? I read somewhere that the average person walks at least 5 miles a day when at WDW, and more at Epcot! Don't know if it's true or not though...Have a wonderful time when you go!

Re: eating at wdw or dl with weight watchers
I don't know of any specific points listings for meals, but I've been to WDW twice while on Weight Watchers. Both times I lost about 1/2 pound for the week.
Here is my strategy:
1. Drink tons of water (no other beverages unless sitting down at a restaurant for a meal and then only unsweetened iced tea or hot coffee or tea)
2. Eat low-fat/high fiber cereal for breakfast (like shredded mini wheats that I brought from home)
3. Order a salad and an appetizer for dinner (there are great salads available, not just iceberg lettuce with a tomato thrown on top)
4. Split dessert with someone else.
5. If there are special WDW treats that you love, don't skip them! You are on vacation - enjoy!
We did go to 1 or 2 character meals during each trip and I certainly didn't starve myself at them , but with the other strategies in place, I kept from gaining on vacation.
Good luck! You can do it!

Re: eating at wdw or dl with weight watchers
As for the exercise angle, I read recently that a typical day at WDW uses 10 times as many steps(step counting is the latest rage around here) as a "normal" day at home.

Re: eating at wdw or dl with weight watchers
Thanks for the tips. I am a new Weight Watcher and planning a 20th anniversary trip with hubbie in Aug. It's great to know others have been to
WDW while on WW and did OK. We are planning to have breakfast and lunch foods in our room (in order to have better control of the points) and eat dinner out. We, too, are thinking of splitting appetizer, having a sald and splitting an entree (especially those large steaks), and then a dessert--may or may not split .
Being on WW is an imperative from the cardiologist. It's great to know we don't have to give up our wonderful trips to Disney in order to stay on task.

Re: eating at wdw or dl with weight watchers
This is great to know! I've been on points for 8 weeks now (and I'm down 22.8 pounds!) My husband is down 30 - we go to Disney in October, and we're both hoping to lose even more before then - and we'll be able to do more activties and walking - and I'll love photos of us even more.... Thanks for the topic!

Re: eating at wdw or dl with weight watchers
Here are some tips from a WW Leader who has worked for ww over two years and been on the program for 3 years. This includes 3 trips to Disney. All the tips so far are very good. As far as your points remember rule number one when doing any kind of activity make sure you are eating in the middle or upper of your points range (aw to bad on vacation and you have to eat more) If you don't already have the Week 4 material (Boosting your activity and the point booster slide) make sure you get one from your leader when you weigh in. I would consider taking snack you can eat and putting them in your bag or purse. Snacks like soy crisps you can have approx. 24 for 2 or 3 points (double check the label depending on flavor) Pretzels are always a good treat or do Jolly time Healty pop. Pop a bag and put it in a zip lock only 1 point per serving and 2 1/2 servings per bag. If you pay attention to what you are eating like salads with dressing on the side or even use salsa as a dressing for 0 points you should be doing awsome. But like everyone else said you are on vacation DO HAVE FUN. you can always loose any wight you gain when you come back. Remember this is a lifestyle not just a diet you are in this to become healthier. Good luck and have Fun.
