As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Security at Disney
I feel kind of silly (& paranoid!) for posting this question, but what kind of security does Disney have in place post 9/11 regarding terrorist acts? I noticed in a few posts today allusions to "security concerns" at Disney in June, and now in the news are rumors of July 4th attacks in the Northeast. I try not to get overly concerned about all the "threats" that the news media talk about but...we'll be in WDW in June & in the back of my mind I think "if a terrorist wanted to really hurt the feeling of security in the USA, wouldn't hitting WDW do it?"
Of course, if I'm pondering this, then the powers that be at Disney have too, right? And they probably have all kinds of plans & procedures in place, right?

Robbi,
Sorry, can't answer your question, but plan to be in WDW on July 4th, terrorist threat or not!

Re: Security at Disney
Just a quick thought, we visited WDW 11/01, just after the attacks. I was a little worried but a friend pointed out that WDW is not a good target, it's too large and spread out - 47 square miles. So that made me feel better.

Re: Security at Disney
Wow, I've not heard of the July 4 threat, but I'd take it as just that - a threat and continue to move on with your life and your plans. Take you kids to Disney World as George Bush said.
Security in Novmeber consited of having our bags searched prior to going into the parks. Plan on arriving 15-30 additional minutes prior to the time you would have originally arrived depending on the season you go. Even though crowds were light in November, it took us 1/2 hour to go through a line one morning at AK.
And here is my take on this whole terrosim threat - terrorists have a mission and one way or another I firmly believe we'll have another 9/11 here in our country - I hope and pray every day that we don't, but I just feel it's a matter of time - months or maybe even years. Whether it's another hijaking of an airline jet and slamming it a into building, setting off bombs at our country's icons (such as Disney), or an attack on our nuclear facilities, I really feel it will happen. Just being a realist and not trying to scare anyone - my take on it is that I go on with my life because I won't let a threat paralyze me in fear. I'll live life each day to the fullest and NEVER take anything for granted anytmore. I'll also take every precaution possible to protect myself and my family and not live recklessly, but I'll still get on an airplane, still travel to Disney and other American icons, still go to the mall to shop, still cross the Golden Gate Bridge, still get on the Metro in DC, etc.

Re: Security at Disney
I called to make a PS this morning and realized that we will be there on 9/11. Now Im concerned about something happening at disney again on that day. It just happens to fall on a Wednesday and the day we will spend out of the parks.
Just wanted to add my concerns to the bunch

Re: Security at Disney
Well said, Steve. I couldn't agree more.
Robbi, I have heard all sorts of rumors about where and when the next terrorist attack will be. And like Steve said, it's more a question of when, not if. I think Disney is doing the best they can for security, as are other facitilies in our country. The terrorists plan was to target not only our icons, but our way of life, including the fact that we are free to do what we want when we want to. I don't live recklessly, and I certainly will never ever take life for granted, but neither will I stop living that life that God gave me. If I have to wait in a security line, so be it. If I have to drive instead of fly, so be it. Whatever it takes. If Disney feels there is a threat on any day, 7/4, 9/11/02, they will take every precaution necessary.
Don't feel silly or paranoid about posting the question. It is a legitimate concern, and I think that Disney will take concerns and threats very seriously, as we all should. Don't be afraid to voice your fears...but don't be afraid to live life, either.
Sue

Re: Security at Disney
We where there last Christmas and security was the same as Dadtojbj said..We waited no longer than 30 minutes for them to check bags..I would let my husband take the bag..and the kids and I would either take pictures of them with characters or all of the beautiful decorations..I felt very safe at all of the parks..And I never heard any complaints from other guests..Really thinking about..I never thought anything of it once I was there inside all of the magic..I just kept telling myself on the way to Florida..with the good Lord looking over us, there should be no fear..We are in good hands.

Re: Security at Disney
I don't have any personal knowledge/insight into Disney's actual security arangements but, they've always been rumored to combine state of the art technology with heavy behind the scenes and undercover staffing. I've only seen one "incident" at Disney. Not sure exactly what happened but one afternoon about 10 security people litteraly appeared out of thin air to look into something in the Canada gardens area. Just like that. And this was before September 11.
You don't see much, if any, infractsructure at Disney. But you know it's there. Big time. So, I actually feel tremendously safe about being at Disney. I figure I'm probly safer there than here.

Re: Security at Disney
Tikibird,
To ease your mind, the July 4th threat is more of a "Northeast Nuclear Plant" thing, not a WDW one, so you should be OK
All kidding aside, I totally agree with you, Steve. I've seen & heard people make fear based choices since 9/11 and my mindset has always been to pray to God that my family and I stay as safe as possible, but to continue to live our lives. (For example, here in NJ where 9/11 hit close to home, I know many parents would not let their kids trick or treat on Halloween because they had heard that the terrorists were going to "get the kids" by poisoning the candy. We got lots of candy this year!)
I was actually wondering more along the lines of mattjs's information; what the "behind the scenes" type security and preparations were. I've always heard things security wise at Disney were state of the art.

I'm in agreement to Steve - I take one day at a time, and try to live it to the fullest, and not stress over when the next attack may or may not happen. I know the Lord knows how many days I have here on this earth, and I'm secure that he knows best for me.

I agree with Steve.
If we stop going to Disney and other places then the terrorist win.

Re: Security at Disney
It makes you feel so proud reading all of your posts and replies. We have some mighty strong Americans here on our PassPorter boards.
Thank you all so much for your strong, encouraging words. I have been back to WDW 6 times since 9/11 and every time I was thankful to have my bags searched. Cause if they searched everyone else's bag as thouroughly as they checked mine then we all should be safe!
