Sister update...maybe WDW trip remains [updated, post #9) - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Sister update...maybe WDW trip remains [updated, post #9)
[It's long, sorry!] My dear sister was moved from the hospital to a lovely rehab facility this morning. My mom had come down to visit her, too, and we were able to see her in her new room before we each headed home. With a full schedule of PT & rehab each day, she won't need to have companionship most of the day, as she kinda did in the hospital.
Sis is insisting I not change my FL/Disney trip, I was okay in delaying it from June 3 for about 3 weeks, as I wanted to be free to be with her when she gets home from rehab...could be one week, could be two, no way to even guess until she sees her physical therapists today.
She'll still have both forearms in casts (fingers free, but she's allowed to lift nothing heavier than a cell phone), and probably still have a back brace on, so will need a little help, but mostly company while her husband is at work.
I knew our DSisIL wants to come down and help, too, and now I know my dad & his wife plan to visit, too. Along with other friends who are planning to visit, it appears I can keep my trip as scheduled--it's a mini-graduation trip for DS17 and his best buddy. Older son now can come as he (unfortunately) was laid off from his job and is searching for a new one. I have his ticket and MB...but if we delayed the trip, the odds are higher that it could interfere with any new job.
So I'm still keeping my options open, but it appears I can let go of feeling so responsible for taking care of her--other relatives and friends want to take their turns.
Yes, she'll be plenty busy in rehab and exhausted when she isn't being therapeutically tortured by PT people. Might even get some OT (occupational therapy) to enable her to deal more easily and comfortably with using her hands, I'd guess.
Speaking of OT reminds me how puzzled I was when DH said he was doing OT after his on-the-job fall. He explained they help with learning to maneuver a wheelchair, practicing transfers from it to a car seat or movie theater seat, etc.
I thought OT involved helping people find jobs! It IS called "occupational therapy" after all. Silly Dot!
Anyway, sounds like your sister is set to do the really tough work of recovery and you get to go to WDW after all! Things are looking brighter, huh?

Please have someone keep up with her rehab services. And make sure she gets what she needs. I argued with the doctor who was sending me to rehab that the facility wasn't good (it was horrible). It may have offered lots on paper but little actually occurred.
It sounds like your sister has a lot of support. I would also recommend switching off or making a schhedule so no one gets overwhelmed. Being a caregiver is sometimes harder than being the patient. I tell you this from experience and thank my kids all the time for giving me the help I needed even when I did not appreciate it at the time.
I think she will have a lot of care for her while you vacation and it also seems as if she wants you to take the trip. With the Physical Therapy taking up a lot of her day and then her most likely being very tired from it your visits would be just sitting watching her sleep. Your sister knows deep down you are thinking of her first, but I also think she knows she is going to be really busy during that time with therapy that sh is also thinking of you and wants you to go. I think that is awesome. It truly shows that you both care so much for each other.
So glad your DSis has so much support through all of this. Enjoying your WDW trip will allow others a chance to serve, too. Continuing to send her for all the rehab and recovery.

It looks like it may be the "best of both worlds" right now, given the situation. There is a lot of family, and I'm sure friends, who want to pitch in and do what they can. Your sister knows she can count on you, but she also knows that her nephew deserves his celebration trip as planned. She would probably feel bad, and somewhat guilty, if the plans had to change.
Seems like the trip should be a go despite your misgivings and obvious desire to help your sister. Seems like your sister may need more assistance after she returns home from rehab and with everyone else being there in the near future maybe you could plan on going to help her after the trip.
Son's buddy was put back on his work schedule on our original WDW dates, so I had to move it back a week. This will also give me more flexibility in case I need to be with my sister when she goes home from rehab, so that's okay.
I talked to a nice CM who found another room a week later at the military rate (preferred Pop Century instead of an AS room, additional $12). When she heard my sad story, she sent my call to a help center, where another nice CM made new FP+'s for me!
Of course, the Pandora FPs are long long gone, even for Disney CMs; they were our primary reason for going in June instead of May. We'll try to arrive before rope drop and plan to wait in long lines.
BUT....I would give up all of Disney forever to have my sister back in good health and pain-free. Pandora will be there next time, too.
I'm glad your trip is back on, but I am more glad about your last statement which I am not surprised at all you would make it from your posts. Go and have a blast at Disney and know your Sister is under great care.
Thanks, all! This isn't the most recent post. DSis is in a rehab unit, until about June 6. Meanwhile, I moved our FL and WDW trip to June 11-18.
A post above mentioned seeing a Single Rider Line sign at Flight of Passage! I hope that's going to be active!
I hope you are correct about the Single Rider Line because I was checking the wait times yesterday for Flight of Passage and at one point it was over 4 hours.
Glad your plans, even though revised, are still on. From Luke's reading on several boards, there is a single rider line for Flight of Passage, but it is not currently in use. But I'm sending that it is by the time you are there.
