As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Disney Club questions
Is it worth the $30 to become a Club member? I can calculate the difference in ticket prices but beyond that, are the "special savings" at WDW resorts worth it?
I may be mistaken but it appears that the discounted tickets are the biggest incentive and the savings there are minimal. Since we're not planning on going to DisneyQuest or renting a car, I just wondered whether it made sense to apply.

I guess it depends on when you're going too. They have the AP rates out for summer (?) and they're 30% off of rack rate. Also, $30.00 is renewal for one year. First year is $40.00 unless there's a code out currently....We frequent our DS in Tallahassee so it's useful for us for more than tickets and DD.

Thank you for responding. Please forgive my ignorance as I'm terribly new at this. What are the "AP" rates and what code may be out currently? I'm guessing DS is Disney Store?
As I said, I'm still learning the lingo and can see I have a lot to learn.

Yes, DS is Disney Store. AP is Annual Pass.
Unfortunately I'm not aware of there being a code out right now for Disney Club (DC). When I joined in January there was a three-letter code on the mousesavers.com site to save $10.00. I try to remember to check at least once a day which isn't difficult lately as we're anxiously awaiting Disney to post their May hours!
If there are any other acronyms you aren't familiar with look at the bottom of the page where I believe it says "shortcuts" and it'll give you a legend of all.
Again, sorry about the confusion! - You'll know 'em all in like a week or so of registering here and they're universal to most Disney Boards I've found for the most part!

I have always had two cards. One for Disney Club to use on passes and the entertainment logo on the back of the card. I also have AAA to get room discounts for keeping the reservation in CRO [Disney central reservations] Disney Club requires you book in WDW Travel company a separate system[that has a lot of restrictions. Most big discounts will be in CRO. I use AAA to get some discount on the room while I wait for better rates to come out. I do think Disney Club is worth the money. The last few years, there has been a cut back on perks with the card, but, I still feel it is worth it in the long run.

The 50% discount on resturants is related to the entertainment book element of DC. Any resturant that take the entertainment card should also honour the DC card. Just show the symbol on the back of the card.
You can find the local participating resturant in the DC benefits page link for the entertainment program.
Also applies to some hotels, car rental deals and some other things, good luck!

Thank you both for the info (I found and printed the shorthands) as well as the welcome. This can all be a little overwhelming, trying to make sure I make the best deal and have all the pertinent resources available.
At the risk of going to the well once too often, can you tell me what the purpose of the Entertainment logo on the back of the card is for? The Club registration mentions the possibility of UP TO 50% restaurants via entertainment and I have absolutely no idea what this means in practical terms. Do they give you a restricted list of available restaurants?

Oh, I understand where you're coming from! - I check here and a few other sites on a regular basis. I believe on the Disney Club Web site they have the Member Benefits Update in an acrobat file. I just got the spring 2002 in the mail a week or two ago.
Using the DC card you get 15% off Select Tours; some Recreation activities; merchandise at select DD stores; Pleasure Island; Spa treatments at Disney Institute.
As far as restaurants:
Official All-Star Cafe 20% on food and non-alcoholic drinks
House of Blues 20% off of Gospel Brunch; 10% off of mercahndise
Wolfgang Puck 20% off between 11:30A and 5p.
You also get 10% off of Hoop-De-Doo Music Review @ Fort Wilderness; Poly Luau Dinner Show @ The Poly.
There are other discounts listed but this is just to give you a glimpse to help in the decision......

Do I understand you correctly that currently with a Disney Club membership you can get 30% off the regular rate on an AP? That seems like a pretty big savings.
How many memberships per family do you need? Does everybody have to join individually to get discounts on passes?

JDForbes - I don't recall what % you save on the AP with the Disney Club. The 30% is the current savings you may be able to get at resorts with your AP (it all depends what time of year it is and if there are any rooms left at the discounted price). The AP room discount changes so you can't always count on 30%.
