As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). Today was a difficult day. We had to put down our 13 year old Bassett Hound, Larry. He considered himself my DD's dog, but he stayed with us when she went to college. We all knew it was coming, he was almost blind, arthritic, and just about incontinent, but putting him down was REALLY difficult for our other dog. Poor Rico just sat and howled for about 10 minutes when we came back with just a collar.
Does anyone have any ideas about how to comfort a grieving dog? We feel bad enough that Larry's gone, but we don't know how to comfort poor Rico.

My condolences for Larry. It is always so difficult when we lose a furry family member. Just remember that you gave him love as well as the peace & comfort he deserved even in the end.
With regards to Rico - Other than the obvious - extra attention, you could of course adopt another playmate for Rico. Adopting an age appropriate playmate from a local shelter would not only help Rico but uou would be saving another life as well. However if that is not an option maybe some time at a doggy day care for play dates or time at a puppy park. If Rico does not improve then consult your vet. After a certain time period they may want to consider an antidepressant for Rico. We actually had to go down this route for our dachshund when my gram passed.
So sorry to hear that you had to put your dog down. I know how hard it is and you miss them soooo much. I would make sure you give Rico lots and lots of attention and love. We had to put our Boston Terrier Piper down a couple of month ago and our other dog Buddy was very sad. Everytime we came in the house he would look for Piper. Eventually he remembered less and less and he's fine now.

Am so sorry it is hard to say goodbye to our fur babies. All I know is they feel the lose and they pick up on our sadness as well...So love him and grieve with him...just remember dogs live in the now and am sure he will be fine if you are fine. I say this because I have lived through this as well.
So sorry for the loss to you and your family (and Rico) We have had two dogs for many years now because once one is used to having a buddy, it is hard for them to adjust to being an only dog.
Dogs do get depressed and miss their companions. I also think our dogs got loney becuase they are alone much of the day (5 or 6 hours many days) OUr solution has been to get another dog relatively quickly.

As for Rico - our dogs have always mourned when one of them dies. We comfort the dog left, and keep it active/engaged. We've actually never gotten another dog when one of them died.

Thanks, I really needed to hear that. I was hoping that we could stick with just one dog at a time. Of course, DD is pushing for getting another, but I'm hoping she will be working soon and moving out of the house.
Poor Rico cried all last night until DD couldn't take it and took him into bed with her. He wouldn't eat his breakfast and has been very clingy. I'll give it a few more days and see if he improves. I can just see it now: we'll be heading to a doggy shrink and spending hundreds of dollars for doggy anti-depressants. That's just how my life goes...

FYI: the pills were not that expensive & snick was only on them for a couple weeks then weaned off. Still evident that he missed her but was eating again & more engaged. So basically it's a short term thing. When it happened with us our vet said to call if in 10 days he wasn't back to normal.
