As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I don't understand why these machines are supposed to be so wonderful except that they're convenient and comparatively easy to operate.
I think the coffee tastes stale and not far removed from instant-nasty. Some relatives have a Keurig and swear it's the best coffee ever.
Icky-yukko, sez me. If I don't want to dirty the drip coffeemaker for a single cup, I fire up the electric kettle, get out my 1-cup filter that sits atop the mug and make a mugful of real, freshly ground coffee.
Am I the only picky type who can't stand Keurig coffee?

I don't like coffee period but I don't see the appeal in it myself, especially when you take into account the cost. The machines are usually $100 plus and then the individual pods (if you don't get those as seen on tv reusable ones) in the 24 count box are way more expensive than a can of coffee. Mom doesn't drink a lot of coffee so she has a small 4 cup coffee maker. When she fills it with water, it makes a slightly larger cup of coffee than a Keurig (work has one) because the coffee maker considers a cup 4 ounces of water before brewing. IMO, it is no more work than the Keurig but it costs a tenth of the price just for the maker (yes, it costs only $10 for the coffee maker)
Sorry, I like our Keurig. I'm not much of a coffee drinker, but my husband uses it every day. He uses the reusable filter for his Kona coffee I got from the Polynesian. It's much better than a filthy coffee pot sitting in a coffee maker. You just need to find the right coffee.
It's much better than a filthy coffee pot sitting in a coffee maker.
If you don't wash it - which mom does. You wouldn't think she makes coffee in it because it's so clean. I'm of the opinion (and keeping in mind i's up to me to clean the Keurig at work when I'm there) the Keurig can't be cleaned as well as a traditional coffee pot. I find grounds all over the place and on our model, you can't take the drawer out to clean it up nicely and get rid of all the grounds.
There are many different brands of coffee you can use in the Keurig. DH likes some and not others. I think his fave right now is something from Green Mountain coffee.
The kids and I don't drink coffee, but we do drink hot tea (all year round), and hot chocolate. It's also good for heating water for instant oatmeal.
Darlene, there must be something wrong with either your work Keurig or the way the people there are using it. You should never have grounds anywhere in or on it. That's one of the appeals.
I have a Keurig and love it. My daughter doesn't drink coffee but uses it for hot cocoa. I have no problem cleaning it. My favorite blend right now is Green Mountain Breakfast blend. My mom has a small Mr. Coffee version that she loves but that on is harder to clean. She uses Maxwell House for the Keurig.

I always used a Melita filter with fine ground coffee I would grind myself. I got sick, my kids put my stuff away and i did not drink coffee fora year and a half.
Inow drink one ciup a day and use my kids Keurig. I agree with Dot that it's not the best coffee, especially if you are used to grinding your own.
I think people say they like it because once you spend $100. for a coffee maker, it hard to say it's not that good. My son grinds his own coffee and uses the reusable filter.
I also think people think it is convenient and I guess it's better than having a pot of coffee sitting around all day. I mean, really, why would you need one to make tea. Boiling water isn't that hard and the kettle just needs to be rinsed, not scrubbed.
I love the Keurig and some coffee's are better than others. My dd has one for her dorm room as she is a coffee drinker too. And it's way easier to keep clean and more convenient than a regular coffee maker.
My mom didn't like it when my brother and sister in law got one she said the coffee was too strong.
I love the Keurig. I have one at work and at home. While I'm not a coffee drinker, I do use it to make tea (hot and cold) and hot chocolate. I've actually never had anyone tell me the coffee tastes bad or like instant. There are a ton of different brands, you might want to try a different one or use the filter for ground coffee.
I also have one, my son has one, and my office recently got one. We have found coffees we like and ones we don't. I'm not a coffee aficionado and usually only need a single cup, so it makes a lot of sense. A single cup of coffee is only about $.60 it's not long before a machine saves money over going to a coffee shop for that one daily cuppa.
We have a Keurig at home and I love it for hot cocoa. I order a variety pack from Amazon and it is cheaper than driving to Starbucks. I use two pods set on small to get the best concentration of flavor and I mix dark chocolate with peppermint. I could just boil water but this machine is even faster. Grab and go. Fabulous.

We don't have a Keurig, so can't comment on taste, although I do know people who like it for hot chocolate. Our concern is that the cups can't be recycled as a whole unit. The way we understand it, the cups have to be taken apart to recycle.
I love my Keurig! As others have said, some brands of coffee are better than others. I also like the Green Mountain Breakfast Blend, it's my go-to coffee and I buy the big boxes of it at Sam's. I also have a couple of the re-usable "cups" that I can put my own ground coffee into. I will drink one, maybe 2 cups of coffee a day so for me it's super convenient. Now for someone like my father who can drink a half pot of coffee in one sitting, I can see it not being very economical. I do have a regular coffee pot in the cabinet for when we have company, but I pull it out maybe 3 or 4 times a year at the most.
