Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Re: Pet-mania

4 pets:

Alley: half schnauzer and half poodle, making one UGLY dog. We rescued from doggie death row 7 years ago and she looked like something fished out of the back of an alley dumpster, thus her name!LOL!!

Jake: giant mutt puppy. His name is actually Jake the 2nd!LOL!! We had a great dane my son named Jake(have no idea why though) that we had to give away to a farmer when we had to move to a different base house. When we bought our house and got a puppy, our son insisted on naming him Jake the second

Seamus: all white persian cat. Named after a relative on my grandfathers side. Our daughter picked the name after looking up my family tree

Shadow: all black cat. daughter thought she looked like Seamus's shadow, thus the name..

We are not terribly imaginative!LOL!!

Re: Pet-mania

This is kinda long for George: We got him Christmas 2000...in the middle of all the election, "hanging chads", who-the-heck-is-our-President fiasco. And we are such the republicans. So, while trying to come up with a cool name, I mentioned George W. Jason LOVED it. His whole name is George W. Doyotte (the name of my cousin who breeds weenie dogs) Alfred G. Stubblefield (my roommate's dad...we love him and it's a funny name) Ross (my maiden name) Cosby (after Bill, of course) Carlton, the first.

Cheney was easy...we named her after the VICE president! Her entire name is Cheney Anne (my middle name) Hermione (from Harry Potter) Carlton

We are WEEEIIIIRRRDDDDOOOSSSS!!!

Re: Pet-mania

2 Cats -

Mickey was orginally called "Mic" because we were sitting in the drive-thru at McDonald's on our way home from the humane society when we got him. The kids came up with that one!

Tigger was named for a couple of reasons. The first being that we had taken to calling "Mic" Mickey and of course, Tigger went so well with that; the second being because he was SO much bigger than Mickey, we referred to him, and still do sometimes, as "Tigger is bigger!" (It also helps newcomers to our house remember which kitty is which!)

Our Tigger looks nothing like his namesake. Ours is part Russian Blue and part Tabby, so he is a beautiful grey color with just a hint of stripes - you've really got to look for the stripes! He also doesn't share the personality of his namesake - our Tigger is a big 'ol lazy bum - he eats (alot - he weighs about 18 lbs!) and is quite lazy - we probably should have named him "Eyeore!"

Re: Pet-mania

DH got the dog before we were dating and he named him Rhett because everyone kept saying how handsome and cute he was. So he named him after Rhett Butler.

Two of our cats came with their names, Dave and Kit. The other cat I named Beans because I used to have a dog whose nickname was Beans (actual name was Meg) and the cat reminded me a lot of the dog for some reason.

My mom and I have a dog too and I got to name him, he was originally a show dog and his full name is Chantelle's My Oh My and we call him Homer. He was named when we were listening to a Mariners game on the radio when a home run was hit and the announcer (Dave Niehouse) said his famous (at least in Seattle) line "My Oh My".

Re: Pet-mania

I love animals!

Our first pet is Jack - she's 10 now but my husband had found her from an ad for "Free Kittens" and got her as a surprize for me . He was told it was male so I named it Jack. When I took Jack in to be fixed the vet told me they could not perform that kind of surgery on him since he was a SHE! She kept the name Jack but I sometimes call her Big Fat Jack!

Next we adopted a Jack Russell Terrier named Solo from my brother-in-law. Most people assume her name came from Star Wars, but he named her that because she was the only puppy born in that litter.

And finally, my baby, a runt farm cat that I rescued from certain death from a relative's farm. He was so tiny and sickly when I brought him home; he had all kinds of problems. We nursed him back to health and he brightens every one of my days! My husband named him Wilbur, I call him Willie.

And we also have a betta fish who we refer to as "fishy" and a Cockateil named Ricky that we adopted when my grandpa passed away this May.

BUT, the good news is we do not have any children - just a small zoo! LOL

Re: Pet-mania

i got my dh our dog for christmas almost 7 years ago. he had never had a dog, and had really wanted a mini dachshund, so that's what we got. he chose her name (scooter) which also happenned to be a nickname he used to call me. scooter just seems to fit a quick, low-to-the-ground dog.

Re: Pet-mania

What a fun thread!

If any of you remember, I lost my darling doggie Betsy in January - she disappeared and was never heard from again. It still makes my heart hurt to think of her. I love her and miss her so much.
She came with her name already. But here's my idea, tell me what you think. I am going to get another dog and I'll get another chow or chow mix. I just love the temperament of those dogs. Since the chow chow originally came from China - and actually this is Alex's idea - we are going to ask a CM in China in Epcot (9 days from now!) for suggestions of Chinese names for a dog. Maybe the Chinese word for Lucky or Happy or just Dog. Or maybe they have some traditional pet names that would work. Anyway, what do you think?

Re: Pet-mania

Great idea on asking the CMs for a name!!

Our dog Taffy, a mutt, was named for the taffy-colored cocker spaniel I always wanted but didn't get (she is a WEE bit cocker spaniel!)

Lilo and Stich, the kitties, well, I'll bet this group can figure THAT out!

Re: Pet-mania

We have 2 dogs. Our Yorkie is named Koko and our Bichon Frise is Kandi. Our last name starts with a "K" and our 3 girls all have first names that start with "K" (it was not intentional at first, but when we got to #3, there was no particular favorite "non K" name so we decided to select another "K" name....).

Now to the puppies: We actually named them before we even picked them out because we knew we were getting a Yorkie and a Bichon (and that was because we liked both breeds and couldn't decide between the two!). We searched on dog names on the internet and they even had a category for sets of names for "2 dogs", but we just did not find a set that we liked....(Cinnamon and Sugar would have been cute for these breeds, but we just did not like them as 'stand alone' names...). So it was on to selecting "K" dog names and the rest is history....We've had Koko (Yorkie) for 1.5 years and Kandi (Bichon) for a little over a year and their names suit them perfectly. They are so sweet and funny together and absolutely the best of friends!

Re: Pet-mania

First cat is named Patches. She black and white. Looks a lot like a holstein cow.

Second cat Sammy. We weren't going to keep her but named her anyway.

Snoopy is the dog. She is named Snoopy because she's a snoop.
