Two adults head to Disney - August 13-20 2013 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

My daughter and I have been on many trips to WDW since the Disney bug bit us way back in 2002 when my dd was just 7 years old. It was her first airplane ride and both of our first trips to Disney. It was a perfect vacation spot for us as I'm a single mom and with disney transportation it was very relaxing getting around. Now we are getting ready to embark on another trip to Disney (our 10th) but this time we go down as 2 adults as my dd turns 18 in June. I'm not sure who told her she was allowed to grow up and if I ever find out who it was we are definately going to have words!!!!!! A short 2 weeks after we return home dd will be moving into her dorm. Luckily she will only be about 1 hour from home but it will be a sad/happy time for me. I'm very sad she is growing up and leaving home but very happy that she is growing up and leaving home!!!! I have raised a fabulous young lady and I know she will have a great time at school. She has had a tough senior year rehabing from 2 knee surgeries but has worked hard to get back in shape and will be playing Division 1 women's ice hockey next year at Princeton University where she will be majoring in Biomedical Engineering.
Our plans changed a bit as we had family ask to tag along after we booked the trip so here are the players in this trip report.
Me - 46 yr old single mom and lover of all things Disney
DD - 18 yrs old now know as K - lover of Disney and hockey and especially her momma.
DB - 51 yr old brother of mine now know as T - lover of baseball - would rather not be going to Disney but hopefully will have fun.
DSil - 46 yr old now know as R wife of T mother of KR not sure what she is a lover of (which is sad as she has been married to my brother for 20 years)
DN - 15 yrs old now know as KR also not sure what she is a lover of as she is a typical teenager who most days loves nothing and everything given the time of day although she is great when we are together and I'm looking forward to showing her Disney as this is her first trip.
Resort - Caribbean Beach resort - our first time staying there
Tuesday August 13th thru Tuesday August 20th (the unusual dates will be explained later.
Your daughter is amazing. Playing hockey, going to Princeton, and studing Biomedical Engineering. Good luck to her. You're going to have a great time on your trip.
After our trip in July 2012 we decided that we wanted to go somewhere else. It was a great trip and we really enjoyed the Royal rooms at POR but it was the first trip we both got sick during the trip and we finished the trip with pretty bad colds. I think being sick might have had something to do with our thinking but something got in our heads and we decided to go somewhere else. I was looking at Cancun and found out that my oldest brother F and his wife T were also heading to Cancun and we decided to tag along. Then we got nervous that we would get bored. I know that sounds funny but we like having tons of things to do, which is probably why we love Disney, and can't really lay on a beach all week. Alot of fun things to do in Cancun cost extra (which I don't have) and we definately couldn't do excersions. My brother likes to scuba dive but I'm not certified. Also my dd's passport expired in February and we didn't have time to get it renewed so I decided to just leave it until June when she turned 18 and I didn't need to go with her and since her dad is out of state and we werent' sure if we needed him to get her next passport since we needed him to get her youth one it's just easier to wait to get it renewed. That would also be close to our July departure for Mexico. One day K asked me if we could skip Mexico and go to Disney one more time before she headed off to college and of course I said yes. Then we got a postcard with a pin code. After all my trips you can imagine my excitement at getting a pin code but low and behold I didn't get a pin code, my daughter did. I contacted my TA and she said that it was fine to book the trip in K's name plus I figured since she would be 18 by the time of our trip they would allow it. Plus I got to tease my dd that since the pin code was in her name she would have to pay for the trip. The pin code started on August 11th so we booked the trip for Sunday August 11th to Sunday August 18th. We have a goal to stay in every resort so we booked Caribbean Beach Resort as that is the last of the 4 moderates we still have to hit. We had all the Values done until they opened AofA so we have to double back and hit that one but that's fine just another reason to go back again.
Next up change of plans to add family

I am at awe of my dd every day of the year. I'm surprised that she is my biological dd haha!!!!

A great start! Im sure this will a very special trip since your daughter will be heading off to school once you return. Can't wait to hear more about your plans!
After booking the trip I started looking at airfare but didn't find anything good. Was keeping any eye on it and thinking about plans. We like to do mainly counter service when we travel during the hot summer months because you never know when you will feel like eating and you never know when it's going to rain. My dd's favorite restaurant is Cape May Café Clam Bake so that is a must do plus it was closed last year when we were down so we definitely have to hit that.
One day at work my brother T called me and asked me about Disney because he knows we have gone and his daughter KR was complaining that she is the only person that has never been to Disney World. I told him that K and I had a trip planned for August and that I would check with my TA to see if we could put his room under K's pin code because it was for 35% off which is a good deal. He told me that a women he works with flies out of Trenton airport on Frontier and that they have good deals. We usually fly out of Philadelphia but Trenton is close and parking is free so we looked into that. They fly to MCO on certain days and it would work out best to fly Tuesday to Tuesday so we moved our trip from Sunday August 11th to Tuesday August 13th once my wonderful TA told me T could use our pin code. Flights were at least $100 cheaper than out of PHL plus no parking cost so we will have to see if we like flying out of TTN. Our flight home on the 20th is early so we didn't need park tickets that day and we plan to go to the beach one day so we bought 6 day park hoppers. My brother is the original total athlete in the family and he has knee problems too along with K so I'm not sure if he will use all his days but everyone had to have the same number of days in his room and we wanted KR to have the same days as us. T also booked a car for the day after we arrive to the day before we leave. We told him to only book the car for the beach day but the women he works with told him the buses were horrible. DD & I love the buses as I hate to drive so we might not ride in the rental car much but we will play that by ear. There is no way we will ride it to MK as parking at the TTC and then monorail or boating over to the park is horrible when the bus drops you right at the door. I tried to explain that to T but he isn't really into details and it was too far away from the trip for him to give it any thought. And to be honest dd & I have been so busy we really haven't done much thinking about the trip either. I almost missed the double digit dance day which would have been a bummer. K is trying to finish up her senior year and I'm working extra to try to pay for the trip so things have been hectic. I'm hoping that we get more into the trip planning after graduation on June 10th
I hope that you and your family have a magical time at the world
