As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Fake And Bake
OK, I am doing my pre vacation tanning...a process I really loathe, but find I burn less when I do it(yes, I use sunscreen, but am very fair skinned). I personally hate tanning, and only do it if I am going on vacation to a sunny locale. This time I am doing the Stand Up version of tanning. They stand you in this hexagon box and you are surrounded by lights...kinda weird. My question is, what do you do while you are in the stand up tanner? Do you rotate like a piece of meat on a rotisserie? Do you Dance? Or do you stand there wishing it were over like I do? Thank goodness the time limit in the stand up is a lot less than the bed tanning...I really think I would go nuts! BOOOORRRRRIIIIINNNNGGGGGG!

Debbie x 3, you are too much! I have never fake baked but if I did, I would prefer the rotisserie method! I don't think I could stand still!

Re: Fake And Bake
Be careful - I've only fake baked once in my life - before my wedding. We got married February 1st and were going to Florida for our honeymoon, so I wanted to get a little color. I also am fair skinned, and burn easily, even with sunscreen.
I am allergic to the UV rays they use in the tanning booths!! I ended up with a horrendous rash, after just a few minutes! Thank goodness I had started a month before the wedding, so it was gone before we got married!! Never again!
Sun rash, as we call it, does run in my family. On certain days, if you don't have enough sunscreen on, we get raised hive rashes - Mom & my younger sister used to get it so bad in the days before good sunscreen that they would have to go to the hospital for an epi shot!

Re: Fake And Bake
I used to go when I was a teenager all the time. I went last year before our trip to DL, too. I don't think I could do the stand-up. Way too boring. I'd rather go longer in the laydown, because I usually fall asleep, anyway.

Re: Fake And Bake
I did a couple times in my early 20s. But I much prefer to sit in the sun itself. When I was 27 I had a couple pre-cancerous lesions taken from my arm and face and that was a HUGE wake-up call. I no longer sit in the sun to bake my skin (though I do sit around the pool protected by sunblock) and will never do a tanning bed place again. I use daily moisturizer with SPF 15 on my face and arms and use SPF 30 or more when I'm going to be spending time in the sun.
When you are young, you don't think about the affect of what you are doing will have on your older self. Please, everyone, protect your skin from the sun's damage (and the fake sun as well) and wear sunglasses and hats and sunscreen whenever you spend time in the sun. You'll thank yourself in about 20 years. -HiddenMickey

Re: Fake And Bake
I've never faked baked before. I don't even like to bother with the sunless tanning lotions! I'll get a little sun out by the pool in the summer. Having a tan just isn't an issue with me. I figure my skin is all the better for not bothering.

Re: Fake And Bake
i've never faked, and i don't even try to tan anymore. now that i'm in my 30's, i'm more concerned with avoiding skin cancer and wrinkles than getting a tan.

Re: Fake And Bake
I would be bored if I did that too Debi. I'm definitely with the "I don't tan" crowd. Sure, it's a pain to have to keep reapplying sunscreen, but I'd rather do that than fake tan, or burn. I'm very fair for a brunette, so I just use a good 45 SPF with Parsol 1789 (absolutely necessary ingredient). Have a great vacation and don't get too much sun. Where are you going BTW?

Re: Fake And Bake
Like I said, I NEVER tan unless I am going on extended vacation where I will be in the sun a lot. Then, I only do the 10 visit package...and I never lay out in the sun. But, I have found that it sure keeps me from FRYING the first couple days I am out on vacation. I am one of those who has to bathe in sunscreen to keep from burning...so a few short sessions in the tanning booth have helped with that problem...but most of the time, I am as pale as Casper the Ghost!

Re: Fake And Bake
I agree with HiddenMickey. When I was young, I used to go all the time to the tanning beds (and outside with baby oil on). Melanoma is now in my family, so I don't do that anymore, and put on at least 15 SPF when I'm outside. I get checked every 4-6 months because I'm covered in moles.
Anyway, put on lots of sunscreen with the fake and bake. I've seen a lot of ads around here lately for the "mist" tan. It's a dye (or at least I think it is) that they spray all over you as you stand up, and it lasts for 5-7 days, without the harmful effects of the ultraviolet rays.
Sorry, got into preaching mode. Just wear lots of sunscreen!!

Re: Fake And Bake
I tried the tanning beds in my twenties too... 10 visits for $30 or something like that.
Now I'm older (definitely!) and wiser (hopefully?) and avoid them altogether.
I know you weren't asking for a Thou Shalt Not Sermon, just how to keep occupied so I apologize for preaching. We just want you to be careful, be safe.
