Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Flying solo...

DH is gone to the American Baptist Association meeting in Witchita Kansas this week...leaving me to sleep with a gun and booby trap my house

What do you do to feel safe when YOU have to stay home alone? Tell me your stories and I'll tell you mine!

ROTFLOL - well, I think we live in just about the safest neighborhood in all of America and I'm never scared but I know my wife is glad that we have a security system and a big dog with a bark meaner than her bite when I'm not home! LOL!

Re: Flying solo...

we have a security system, so that helps a lot. my dog is worthless as a guard dog. she would sleep through anything and is only 9 pounds if she did wake up. not a lot of help. prayer is my greatest weapon.

Re: Flying solo...

John works strange rotating shifts, so I have gotten used to spending a great deal of time home either alone or with just the kids.

We do have a telephone next to the bed - that makes me feel safer - if I heard something - I could call John or the PD, of course, John is a police officer, but if he's at the power plant, that doesn't help me much, does it.

Actually, I've never worried much about it - I live in a pretty safe rural area, and we do have a big dog - mutt, but he looks like a German shepard. Not much for protection - he's a big wuss, but he looks scary!

Although we do have guns in the house (again, PD requirement), they are safely locked away in a gun safe, and John has the only key in his pocket at all times! I feel much safer this way - I don't like them. Even when John is home, but off duty, he locks his guns - but he does sleep with an old wooden baseball bat next to the bed! I would be much more worried that a criminal would get the gun away from me, and use it against me, than that I would use it!

Re: Flying solo...

My DH travels a lot. After one of his first long trips away from home, I informed him we needed a dog. A big one. So we got Goliath. He has a wonderful big dog bark. And a great name. If strangers come to the door I always make sure they can hear me say "Stay Goliath!" DD wanted to name him Pooky, but that would have defeated the purpose! (so that's his middle name) Of course once they see him and his goofy tongue hanging out the side of his mouth and his tail wagging so hard I think he could hit his own nose with it, he doesn't look so scary

I also sleep with a phone beside my bed and I double check to make sure the deadbolts are locked before I go to bed.

Re: Flying solo...

My car insurance just had an increase because our neighborhood is evidently getting riskier and my boyfriend's job puts him on the road so often that I'm home alone nearly half the time, but it really doesn't bother me that much. We lock the house at night, but I hardly ever lock my car doors. Watching Bowling for Columbine might put some of your nerves at ease--worked for me!

Have fun with your time alone!

Re: Flying solo...

Well, on my first stay alone, I slept with the gun, dog and phone in the living room. There are two doors that close the living room off, but neither of them lock, so I used two picture frames for each door: prop one against the door and one laid on the floor so that if anyone opened the door, they would knock one frame on top of the other and wake me up!

My latest and greatest is for my bedroom, which has a sliding door with no lock...I close it, then put one of our puppy gates in front of it so that if they come in, they'll at least trip over the gate and slow down so I can get em!

DH laughs at me...we live in a neighborhood full of old people, but I keep thinking about stories of people who live in great neighborhoods getting their houses broken in to!

Oh, and I'm with some of you on the dogs. Mine make good watch dogs, but not good guard dogs. How vicious can an 11 pound weiner dog and a 3 pound chihuahua be?

Re: Flying solo...

Well it's just me and boys and I never worry about it. I usually sleep with all the windows open in the summer. It's a very safe neighborhood. That said, when the boys aren't there at night, I sometimes hear more than I do when they are there. I guess when they are there, I can blame any noise on them?!? I guess it's just something you get used to.

Re: Flying solo...

I haven't had to stay alone that much. Just during Boy Scout campouts. I always made sure all the doors were locked. Back then we had 2 dogs. I figured with 2 dogs I was safe.

Re: Flying solo...

My DH was gone all last week and will be gone again this weekend. Fortunately the area we live in is basically no crime, so I'm not worried at all. We don't even have a telephone upstairs where the bedrooms are. I'm sure you will be just fine!

Re: Flying solo...

It is always just me and my kids. I really rarely worry about my safety, I have a phone in my bedroom and I do have the dog who would bark if he heard anything unusual. We had a security system but I didnt renew it once the 3 yrs were up.I would never have a gun in the house. We live in a very safe suburb and I know if I had to call the police, they would be here quickly. Also, I live in one of the smaller houses in the area so I figure, why would anyone rob us when there are some HUGE houses close by-Sheila

Re: Flying solo...

Good point about not robbing me when the NICE neighborhood is just a few blocks away!

Re: Flying solo...

When my husband is out of town I make the most of it!! First of all, I can sprawl out all over the bed, the remote control is MINE,(I mostly like to watch Comedy Central or The Food Network; Paul mostly watches the History channel). I can chew bubble gum and blow BIG bubbles without comments from the peanut gallery. So I guess it doesn't occur to me to be nervous, 'cause I'm having too much fun!!!
