As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Concert mayhem!
Oh my gosh, I can't believe I'm actually getting to type this.....I'm going to see Elton John and Billy Joel in concert tomorrow night in Ames, Iowa with my sister. (silly schoolgirl squeal inserted here!) I have seen them both separately, but they are both long-time favorites going way back to my teenage years when I had all their albums and tons of Elton John posters on my wall. Anyone remember Elton with the denim and fur jacket?
So that's the good news. Here's the downside to this...Most of the concerts I have been to in the last 10 years have been Christian artists -- and this is the music my children associate with me. They listen to a wide range of Christian, pop, country, Disney, and show tunes. Well, DD#1 thinks that since I'm going to see Elton John/Billy Joel, that she should be allowed to see the punk band Good Charlotte in concert. A friends parents are taking a group of girls and she thinks that since parents will be there it is OK. DH and I said no. I think 14 is too young to get into the whole concert scene. What do you think about this? How old were you when you went to your first concert? As an adult, how old do you think you SHOULD have been? At what age will your children go? Will it depend on who is giving the concert?

Re: Concert mayhem!
oh boy!
My kids haven't gotten into this yet, and I do think it depends on the band they intend to see and weather or not parents are present. I have a girlfriend who takes her young dtrs to concerts like brittney spears and such, they are both under ten...I think its a little young and she goes for her own enjoyment more so than her kids. A punk band would frighten me to no ends ...parents or no...at any age, but at some point ya gotta let go right?
I went to my first unsupervised concert at 14, the band was Rush, I went with my then 16yo sis.
I was only allowed to go because they had an extra ticket and my mom felt better with a group going....after that I had to wait till I was sixteen, which seemed to be an appropriate age.
With a parent along, I would probably say okay to my kids if I were sure the parent would be with them the whole time and they had seats far far away from any kind of mosh pit.

Re: Concert mayhem!
I was 17 for my first unsupervised concert. And spent the whole time looking for girls. Just a warning. The first time my daughter asks to go to a concert (she's only 11 now), I'll think of me and my buddies and then say "No".

Re: Concert mayhem!
I went to my first concert when I was about 17 or 18. I'm not sure about Good Charlotte because I don't know of them, but I'd be a bit uncomfortable if my 13 year old daughter was going to a concert with friends, even if parents were going too. I think that I'd want her to wait a couple years. Don't be afraid to stick to your gut instincts. She'll forgive you eventually!
As for Elton and Billy Joel: cool!!!

Re: Concert mayhem!
Patty,
You will love the show- I saw Elton John in Tallahassee, FL in 1997- and it was the best concert I have ever been to. He is such a showman- it was actually the night before the annual FSU-UF game and he played the Seminoles' War Chant- I thought the roof was going to blow off the civic center.
I was about 13 when my parents started taking me to concerts but it was different stuff, like Debbie Gibson and all. I think it just depends on the type of crowd- and I don't know lots about Good Charlotte.
I am sure you will make the right decision- follow your instincts..

Re: Concert mayhem!
You are going to LOVE the show! DH and I saw them together last winter. My first concert without my parents was in high school at age 16. It was U2 (Zoo TV - Inside Broadcast ). I would be concerned about crowd control at a punk concert (mosh pit, etc.). 14 may be a bit young but it really depends on the kid.

Re: Concert mayhem!
Enjoy Elton John and Billy Joel - I'm sure it'll be amazing! I went to my first concert when I was 18 and at university, but by then I'd officially left home anyway!

Re: Concert mayhem!
Have fun at the show!
I have a 17 year old daughter and I let her go to a concert (it was Christian - Newsboys) when she was 13. She went to see 'Nsync when she was 15, it was with a birthday girlfriend who's parents went along. Good Charlotte is not evil - I'd describe them as a kinder, gentler Green Day, if you're familiar. (very pop) I'd let a 14 - 15 year old go to a GC concert as long as there are adults there. The thing to consider is this: Does this band appeal to 18+ year olds? If the answer is yes, don't let 'em go. 18+ year olds think Good Charlotte is dorky, so you're good to go. Hope that helps you out.

Re: Concert mayhem!
Patty, hold your ground - I was also 17 when I went to my first unsupervised concert (not happy about it then, but thankful to my parents now).
Enjoy the show! I remember Janet45 going to see them, and I'll look forward to hearing about how good it was for you too!!

Re: Concert mayhem!
Patty, I went in October to see Elton John and Billy Joel and the concert was fantastic! You're going to love it! Ironically, we had an extra ticket and ended up bringing our 8 year old son with us - he really enjoyed it. But I only brought him because it was Elton and Billy (whom he already loved). I would never have taken him to a punk concert! I really think 13 is too young for that type of concert.
I think my first concert was Chicago when I was 17 and I went with a group including my older sister.
